In the heart of Sorrento
Possibility of parking
The apartment was well located in easy walking distance to the train station, supermarket and gelato shop. Appliances, plumbing and furniture all worked well and were comfortable. The one drawback was some noise coming from the adjacent apartment. The bedroom wall shares a wall with another apartment that must have drawers in it as you could hear them opening and closing. There was also audible conversation. However it was in Italian and ended when we wanted to sleep, so it was not a great problem for us. The owners were very kind and picked us up at the ferry and took us back at the end of our stay so we could avoid the ridiculous taxi charges.
We loved this apartment and our stay in Sorrento for 9 nights. It was modern, clean, beautifully and comfortably furnished and had all the advertised amenities. The patio had a great view of the sea in the distance. Check in and check-out was very easy and Lino and Aurelio were very flexible and accommodating when it came to our arrival and departure times.
Our apartment was Lacryma Christi, but Corallo Rosa has the better balcony and views.
There is noise from the street in front (especially motorcycles zooming by), occasionally from the train behind, church bells, and once very early from the apartment next door. The bed was comfortable but a little firm for us since we are used to softer beds.
Piazza Tasso and the city center, bus/train stops, and the marinas are all within very easy walking distance. This is a great location to explore Capri, Pompei and the Amalfi coast.
I would highly recommend against a car with this apartment. First, you really don't need one with the transportation options nearby. Secondly, even with a small car the garage is very difficult to park in without denting your car especially when some larger cars (a van in our case) park along the wall nearby. The angles and small space in front (less than the length of a car) make it very difficult, although we mastered it after some practice. We did get a small dent on the side of the car during the first exit process so that will cost us $hundreds from the rental car company to repair. We also could not get our for 3 days because a large van parked very close to the garage and blocked us.
The restaurant recommendations are listed in other reviews. We found the following neighborhood restaurants on TripAdvisor that we liked even better: La Cantainaccia del Popolo (pasta & seafood) and Il Ritrovo (pasta, steak, & seafood) with 20% off if you make reservations at the TripAdvisor site. We also enjoyed Kebab Ciampa (near Piazza Tasso but great kebabs), and Bar Rita for lunch (sandwhiches, and various pasta and other Italian treats).
Note that the recommended Deco Supermercado is convenient due to its later hours, but the Siso Supermercado to the right of the apartment and around the corner is better and less expensive (it is only open until 4pm and not on Thursday).
Thanks Lino & Aurelio for taking such good care of us.
This apartment is a 5th floor bedroom, bath and living area with a balcony the affords a view of the Bay of Naples. It is on the main road so noise can be an issue but is conveniently located to walk to the main piazza, dining and shopping. The bath has a great shower, by far and away the strongest of the three places we stayed in Italy. The elevator to get to the 5th floor is small, holding two plus some luggage and requires 5 cent Euro coin, but our host gave us a roll of coins to use. We would certainly stay here again...
We had a great time at this apartment. It was beautifully and comfortably furnished and had all the advertised amenities. The patio had a great view of the sea in the distance. Check in and check out was very easy and the owners were very flexible and accommodating when it came to our arrival and departure times. The co-owner, Aurelio, very kindly picked us up at the train station - it is within walking distance, but when you are new in town and have all your luggage this is a godsend - and showed us how to use everything in the apartment. He also gave us a map and indicated good places to eat, as well as the best shops for purchasing bread, wine, and the best gelato. In fact, his recommendations for pizza and gelato were far better than the ones recommended in our travel guide. One thing that didn't bother us, but might not be suited to others, the balcony faces a rather busy street. We personally love the bustle of cars and people, but if you are looking for a peaceful, sleepy little nook you may not like the amount of traffic nearby. As opposed to some of the larger cities we stayed in though, traffic/people noise seemed to die down much earlier in the evening.
Piazza Tasso and the city center, bus/train stops, and the marinas are all within very easy walking distance. We ended up making little side trips to Pompeii and Positano which were all very easily accessible from this location in Sorrento. We very much enjoyed Sorrento itself, particularly the area of Marina Grande where we had some of the best seafood of our lives at Trattoria da Emilia and Il Delfino. I would absolutely recommend this apartment to friends and family. We hope that someday we will be able to visit again!
Great communication prior to arrival - great customer service arranging payment and check in. The owners father met us at check in - very friendly and helpful. Made sure we understood how to work everything in the apartment and even took the time to show us where the apartment was on the map and points of interest (train station, port, restaurant recommendations). Very warm welcome and great start to our vacation.
Pull out couch in the living room was very comfortable, the space was even big enough that we could leave the bed set up and still have space. Balcony was perfect with a sea view.
Really amazing location to see Sorrento and use as a base to explore the Amalfi Coast, Capri and Pompeii.
My kids loved the elevator that was 5 cents per ride and we were even provided with a pile of coins for this.
Washing machine and clothesline (on balcony) was a great plus - especially traveling with children.
The owner let us leave our luggage on the day of check out so we could spend our last few hours in Sorrento without that worry.
Lots of restaurants, shops within arms reach of the apartment.
Highly, highly recommend. Thank you!
This was a wonderful property, better than pictured. GREAT location. The rate was more than we usually pay, but so happy we made this decision. The hosts could not have been more gracious (assisting us with rental car return and luggage). The flat was modern, clean, and the terrace was great. The restaurant recommendations for Da Franco Pizzeria; Il Leone Russo for pasta; David, gelatto; and Trattoria da Emilia, seafood at the marina grande!) We would definitely return to 281 Flats when in Sorrento.
