About this property

Classic Vermont Farmhouse - Gorgeous Views and Privacy

Located in Vermont's beautiful Northeast Kingdom, our circa 1850 farmhouse is an oasis of hand-hewn charm and modern comfort high above the noise and worries of everyday life. Except for a nearby sugar house, we're the only place on a secluded dirt road and are surrounded by over 21 acres of fields & forest, peace & quiet (the nearest neighbor is over 1/2 mile away). However, the road is maintained year-round and the farmstead is only 1.2 miles from Vermont Route 14-- giving easy access to all the Northeast Kingdom has to offer.

The Wells Farmstead is truly a four-season paradise. Spring brings maple syrup from the sugar house just out back, along with apple blossoms and lilac festivals. In summertime, there are nearby lakes for recreation, sculling in Craftsbury, trails for hiking, farmer's markets in nearby villages and hunting for antiques. The fall is ripe with gorgeous colors, apples and wood smoke during crisp evenings. In winter, the Craftsbury Nordic Center offers renowned cross country trails, while downhill skiers will find Stowe, Smuggler's Notch, Jay Peak, Burke, Sugarbush or Mad River Glen from 45 to 90 minutes from the farm!

If you are interested in food and craft brewing, you'll find Hill Farmstead Brewery, Jasper Hill Farm, Pete's Greens and Hardwick ('the town that food saved') just minutes away.

For rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation, no matter the season, come home to Wells Farmstead in Craftsbury, Vermont!

Antique farmhouse with views
We traveled with family to see the total solar eclipse and had beautiful weather. The farmhouse is spacious and bright and very cozy. It sits up on a ridge with beautiful views across the valley. Perfect place for a family gathering or quiet getaway.

Lovely Home
Lovely Vermont farmhouse that was especially well suited to our group, two families meeting for a weekend of skiing at the Outdoor Center. Kitchen is exceptionally well stocked with anything you could need. Thank you for sharing your beautiful home.

Cozy house near Craftsbury
We had a lovely stay at this comfortable and quiet farmhouse. The house and kitchen were well stocked, and we grabbed food at the nearby Craftsbury General Store to cook dinner. House was clean, beds were comfy. The living rooms are a little small, so not great space to hang out and relax in for more than one person (TV is in the bedroom). We easily went back and forth to the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, and would stay here again.

Beautiful
We loved our stay at Jay's house, it was quiet, clean, and had beautiful views. Plenty of room for the dogs and a nice road to walk them on. The only traffic was the occasional vehicle checking on the sugaring operation. The kids had yard space to play and a nice area upstairs to themselves. We'd definitely stay again.

I divide my time between Provincetown on the tip of Cape Cod and Craftsbury in the Northeast Kingdom of the Brave Little State of Vermont. On the Cape I run a non-profit community development agency that provides affordable housing and supports small businesses in an effort to support a thriving year-round community.

Why they chose this property

For me, Craftsbury is great place to unwind, enjoy skiing & snowshoeing in the winter, hiking & biking in the summer. My farmhouse is a great place to host friends, cook dinners together and enjoy the bounty of Vermont. If, however, you need to stay connected or would like to work remotely, recently installed Starlink Internet provides download speeds of 200 Mbps.

The farmhouse has spectacular views of the hills and situated at the end of a half-mile dirt road provides plenty of quiet and solitude. Hope you will enjoy an escape to Vermont as much as I do.

What makes this property unique

The farmhouse is not fancy, built in 1861 you can see the hand-hewn beams that have sheltered families for over 160 years. The kitchen/dining room is centered around a 100 year old Glenwood wood cook stove. The front lawn offers spectacular views of rolling hills and mountains in the distance. The property sits at the end of a 0.4 mile town maintained road and is the only home on the road. Plenty of privacy, yet the village of Craftsbury and a well stocked general Store - the Genny - is just 2 miles away.
