The house is situated in the historic and cultural town of Sintra. It is filled with castles, palaces, gardens, cobbled streets, museums and cake shops! Described by Byron who lived there once, as - 'the glorious Eden'. Lisbon is 45 minutes by car, offering a rich and diversified culture.
My husband and I were delighted with this house. Isabel and her husband were very welcoming when we arrived and took the time to explain everything to us. The house felt like home straight away. It is so well stocked. It has everything you could need and it is lovely and homely with a lovely mix of modern appliances with some antique furnishings. There is an excellent shower in the bathroom and another in the shower room which we didn't use. There is lots of space and it’s nice to have the balcony as well as the terrace space. There is air conditioning in all the rooms as well as shutters on the windows and space to park a car if you have it. The house is only a very short walk from the local market and mini-market. It is a 5-10 minute walk from the train station and buses and 10-15 minute walk from the old town. The location is nice and quiet despite being in the centre of things and there are some nice cafes just around the corner. Sintra itself is beautiful. I would really recommend this place to anyone staying in Sintra. Thanks to Isabel for a wonderful stay.
This was a wonderful place to stay, for the following reasons:
1) Great value for money
2) Comfortable, well equipped appartment
3) Charming and ever helpful owner
4) Close to the town center but peaceful, quiet and relaxing
5) Location, location, location. Steps to shops and restaurants in the new town. 5-10 minutes walk to the train station, 10-15 minutes to the old town. Good bus and train connections to the beach, Lisbon and around Sintra.
6) Slept our family of five very comfortably
7) Overall, truly a gem
Sintra is simply beautiful, but the old town can be crowded with tourists (such as us!) in the summer. We really apprecaited staying so close to the center of the new town - right by the pedestrian precinct with restaurants, a market, groecry stores, butchers etc, where we really felt ourselves to be in the heart of Portugal. Yet the wonderful sights of historic Sintra are just an enjoyable and relatively short walk away.
We will be back!
This apartment in Sintra is perfect. Isabel explained everything to us. The apartment was spotless clean and in perfect working order. It is very well equipped and comfortable. The apartment is in an excellent location. It is just outside of the historic center of Sintra and in the center of the town of Sintra. It is better to be in the town than the historic center because the historic center has too much traffic (on afternoon and weekends, even in April, it is far quicker to walk than take a taxi from the train station), and it is noisy with a constant stream of tourists walking about. Isabel's apartment comes with parking at the side of the house (it is very difficult to find parking in Sintra). The apartment is a 10 minute walk from the train station (good for day trips to Lisbon and Queluz), a 20 minute pretty walk to Sintra's historic center (there is a bus from the train station if needed), 2 minute walk from the beach tram (a fun outing), and all of the shops are within 2 to 4 blocks. From the train station, there are buses to all of the interesting sights in the area, or you can drive if you have a car, including the palaces, castles, manor houses, beach towns. There are many walking and hiking paths around the Sintra area. Even though this apartment is convenient to everything, it was quiet. We have rented apartments/houses in many places in Europe and this was one of the best - highly recommended.
There is all necessary in the house and even more. The house is near the market. It is very convenient, especially if you love charcoal barbecue. As nearby there is a bus stop, so it's easy to get a beach. The owner is very nice woman. We fantastically spent our honeymoon here and would like to come back again and again.
"We had a lovely stay in this apartment with our 2 young children, age 5 and 7. The apartment is on the first floor, with the owner's brother living on the ground floor. The area is quiet and safe, apart from a few dogs barking at night! It takes about 15 minutes to walk to the area of Sintra with the National Palace, but it is a nice walk past interesting buildings and can go by a park. As the owner still sometimes stays here herself, there were many items available for us to use in cooking, such as oil, salt etc. It would be helpful to leave one cupboard empty for guests to keep their own food in. The balcony was safe for our children. If someone had younger children, please be aware that there are many personal possesions in the apartment that could be breakable. Overall, we had a good time here, and our children enjoyed learning to play chess!"
Cascais and Estoril (with the famous Estoril Casino) are Also Within half an hours drive. Activities nearby include golf for example Penha Longa, Quinta da Marinha, Quinta da Beloura near Sintra and Country Club at Fine, north of the Royal Palace at Queluz. Also on offer are horse-riding, artists workshops, yoga, water sports, walking, fishing, sailing, and tennis.
The house is near the bus to Pena Palace, the Palácio da Vila, Montserrat,
