My husband, teenage son and I just returned from our week long stay in Belgium at the Mayeres House.
The apartment was immaculately clean, fully equipped kitchen, full bath an extra sink and very comfortable beds. The apartment is big and allowed us to be together in the main room but also allowed for my Son to be on his own in the study where he could read or watch videos on his own space
The owners left us wonderful treats, jam, honey, sweets, pasta, milk, coffee, tea. There is a brand new supermarket 5 minute walk away and a smaller store just a few doors down the street..
We spent days back and forth to the metro, two different stations in less than a 10 minute walk. After very long days of touring around Belgium it was a wonderful respite to return to the Mayeres House to recuperate for the next day of touring. It was nice to be in a residential neighborhood away from the very touristy areas but still have close proximity to the metro.
The owners were very attentive, reachable if there was any question or needed help organizing transportation. They also left a great binder in the apartment with directions for things in the apartment as well as wonderful restaurant recommendations.
We would highly recommend this apartment for your next visit to Belgium.
We had a great time at the place.
Very cozy and nice. Very hospitable.
The design of the rooms are a little odd where one has to walk through the stairwell or the master bedroom to go to the bathroom or get to the kitchen.
The distance is a little far from the city center and parking can be expensive. They have a spot on the street, but still have to pay for it.
Lovely apartment. Everything one would want, more than one expects, with super owners who were most helpful.
Kitchen perfect (not what we have found previously). Great selection of oil, vinegar spices etc. even garlic!
Milk, bread and real Belgian chocs to welcome us. Condiments galore including a mixed pepper which did our Tuna stew
magnificently. Eugenie and Ben were really helpful. Bed enormous, art nouveau/deco fireplaces amazing.
Walk from Madou tube keeps you fit though it's easier from Botanique.
Turkish friturie round the corner does great frites and chicken baguettes. Gemlik bakery has good buns and the butchers
has to be seen to be believed. The various nationalities seem to coexist amiably; far more than we see here. Museum of musical Instruments a must.
In toto, unconditionally recommended. Should relly have six stars.
My husband and I were thrilled with our stay. Wonderful amenities made us feel like we were staying at a 5 star hotel. We brought our infant son along, and they provided us a comfortable crib and toys for him. The bread, cheese, chocolates, coffee, and other sundries that were there waiting for us upon arrival were an outstanding addition. We had a difficult time finding the neighborhood, in the future we would taxi to the house and take public transportation versus renting a car. We attempted to find the apartment with printed out directions, we would have been fine had we used a GPS. With that said, we enjoyed the neighborhood and the convenience of being able to walk to many tourist spots. Thank you for making our stay in Brussels memorable!
Wonderful, wonderful option for staying in Brussels! The check in process was very easy with Eugenie (the owner) serving as the most excellent hostess. She welcomed us on arrival, went over the basics of the apartment, as well as having some thoughtful snack available to us already in the apartment (including fresh bread, cheese, beverages, etc.). She lives in the building as well and was quite accessible and helpful when we had questions.
The apartment itself is on the ground floor (very easy for travelers with luggage). The space was pristine, as well as impressively large, bright and open compared to other placed we have rented around Europe. We enjoyed the information and history of the house available to us.
The location is fine so long as you don't mind getting around on foot. We generally spend our time moving around a city by walking and most of the restaurants, bars and sights were a 20-40 minute walk. There is a convenient subway stop a few blocks away (about a 5 minute walk). We usually do not use public transportation much, but this was easy for getting to Brussels Midi (we did this the day we took the train to Brugge and it was quite easy / convenient). We didn't find too many restaurants in close proximity to the house, however it did ensure the evenings and nights were quiet for a good evening of relaxing and a good night of sleep. The neighborhood felt very safe.
We would absolutely recommend this location to anyone considering it. We felt for the price, it was a great value. Eugenie was wonderful!
I had selected a few rentals to show my husband in Brussels when we were planning our trip. When he saw the Mayeres House, he said, “That one.” Didn’t even consider any of the other options.
We had such a good time and the pleasures began with Eugénie’s lovely responses to our questions, her solicitude for our comforts and needs, everything. She was there to answer questions about transportation to and from the airport and the little concerns about food shopping and so on.
Once we arrived at the Mayeres House, Eugénie, Ben, their adorable children and sweet old dog made us feel at home. I had an unexpected problem with Verizon and accessing my email and while Ben couldn’t fix the problem he was sympathetic and supportive and made the ordeal easier to bear. He also wrote me out a list of the most fabulous food and wine sellers. Don’t miss Rob’s Gourmet—all kinds of delicacies there and it’s a fairly easy trip by bus. The Halal butcher around the corner is very good, and there are a number of nearby shops that sell excellent fresh produce.
The apartment is well appointed and extremely comfortable. The wifi is dependable, the kitchen is functional, the television has good channels and the all-important BBC, the bed is firm and the household washing machine and dryer a blessing. The location is excellent. While we started by being dependent on the Métro, we soon discovered a preference for trams 92 and 93 and buses 63, 65 and 66.
While the apartment is outside the “Centre” it is still central. And there is so much to do in Brussels and beyond. We made day trips to Bruges, Ghent and Antwerp. (Central Station is, generally speaking, more pleasant than North Station and they are functionally interchangeable.) We haunted museums, explored Art Nouveau architecture and had a fabulous morning at the Belgian Comic Strip Centre – Museum. The Mayeres House is a place one can really settle into—and were I to come back to Brussels, I would certainly try to come back to the Mayeres House.
Reaching the Mayeres House is easy. Our building is located beside the Brussels’ inner ring road near the beautiful Botanical Garden.
