Overview

About the property

Nestled down a 1/2 mile gravel road you will find a peaceful serene home sitting on 10 acres without another house in sight. Conveniently located only 6.8 miles from downtown Charlottesville. this beautiful 3 BR / 3.5 Bath country retreat comes with all the amenities of modern life such as HD Dish TV (3 flat screen TV's) with surround sound, high speed wireless internet, Blu-ray player. The house is bright and airy, features all hardwood flooring throughout, a large kitchen, screened in porch and separate outdoor seating area by a babbling fish/frog pond.

Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The master is very spacious and bright with a queen bed and its own full bathroom and tub. The second bedroom features a queen bed and is very bright and airy surrounded by windows . The third bedroom features two twins and both of these bedrooms share a full bath which features fully tiled and glass enclosed shower. Finally, in the basement there full size pull out sofa bed complete with its own full bath and glass enclosed tiled shower. All full bathrooms are supplied with salon grade shampoo, conditioner, soap, towels and washcloths.

On the main floor there is a TV/sitting room with large bay windows, a piano and wood burning fireplace. The kitchen is bright and large and well equipped a large sink, dishwasher, disposal, gas range and an assortment of cookware such as Calphalon pots/pans, Henkel knives and cooking essentials.. For coffee lovers there is a new Keurig Machine (bring your own k-cups) or for bigger crowds there is a 12 cup Cuisinart Percolator which makes fantastic coffee and does not require a filter. Also provided are a large variety of spices and basic cooking necessities such as sugar, flour, salt, pepper, cooking oils, vinegars, etc. The kitchen has its own breakfast seating area for the casual meals or you can wander out the back door and relax in the screened in porch. The kitchen overlooks the dining room which comfortably seats six (although you could squeeze eight) and this room is also surrounded by windows.

The basement features two separate walk out sliding glass doors and the couch in this room pulls out to a full size bed. In addition there is a dart board, poker/game table, 46 inch Flat screen TV with surround sound, wood stove and a full bathroom with tiled shower. This is a great area for board games, dart competitions or just to settle in to a movie.

Much of the nearby land behind the house is all under conservation easement and you may enjoy taking one of the many walking/logging trails. Or you may enjoy inspecting the full garden which is surrounded by fruit trees and berry trellises which I carefully maintain. Or you may simply relax with a cocktail or book in the outdoor seating area by the fish pond to the sounds of babbling water in the background while the afternoon sun relaxes you under the tall oak trees.

This is truly a 'get away' retreat and you will leave feeling relaxed and recharged!

About James Dunton

I grew up on a farm in very rural eastern VA (northern neck) learned to find pleasure in life of very simple things. After graduating from college I left for the big city down south (Atlanta) where my eyes grew wide as I approached the skyline and knew this was going to be home for the next phase of life. There I stayed for a very fast 8 years and did a quick stint out in San Diego for 2 years before feeling the call to return back to the home state of VA. Charlottesville was a completely new experience but one that I was quite certain would be a very welcomed change which it was. Since moving I have completely fallen for this town, the way of life here, the culture, people and the proud sense of community.

James Dunton purchased this chateau / country house in 2011

Why James Dunton chose Central Virginia

As I approached my mid 30's I couldn't disregard the calling to return to a rural setting and embrace slowing things down a bit. I was anxious to get my hands in the dirt and grow my own food and hear the crickets and frogs at night and leave the lights of the big city behind. After buying the property I quickly realized this was exactly the perfect fit!

What makes this chateau / country house unique

Spending just a few days here always recharges my batteries for new challenges or traveling for work. Whether I am working in the garden, cutting wood, cooking a fresh grown meal or just relaxing outside soaking up the afternoon sunshine this place is the perfect getting away and enjoying the simplicities of life.

Great getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great weekend away at James' home near Charlottesville. It is a beautiful place (better even than the photos) and plenty of room for 8 of us to spread out. The back porch is worth it by itself. Great little hiking trails around the home and only about a 10-15 minute drive or so to the heart of Charlottesville. very close to lots of wineries. James was a great host-- all our interactions were online-- he made check-in super easy and was very prompt in responding and accommodating to us. Definitely would stay here again!

A Beautiful "Surprise Birthday Weekend" with family

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed every minute of our stay. The house is comfortable and met our needs. James is awesome and great to get to know him. We visited Jefferson Winery just 1.7 miles from the house and would go back for sure. Our granddaughter is a freshman at UVA and we enjoyed getting her off campus to be with us.

Hope to return to this lovely house again. The location is so central to what's happening in Charlottesville!

Private, roomy, beautiful

  • 5 of 5

The house is very beautiful on the inside and outside. James was so helpful with his instructions, and left the inside very welcoming! I loved the screened in porch and the pond out back. It definitely did feel like a retreat home that you could enjoy - especially in this cooler crisp air of early Fall. What I loved the most is that it was far enough out of the way to be private and comfortable, but close enough to everything we needed/wanted to do! Just minutes from amazing wineries and carter's mountain orchard. So thankful to James for letting us stay.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

A group of us spent a long weekend here and couldn't of asked for a better find! Not only is the house itself gorgeous, but James has made sure you and your guests will have everything you need. We couldn't of found a better place for the weekend and look forward to the next time we are back in Charlottesville - this will be our top pick!

An amazing experience and can't wait to come back :)

Perfect.

  • 5 of 5

My friends and I had a wonderful time at this house! We easily found everything we needed, and the layout and decor are lovely. It is in a beautiful, quiet location that is very close to Monticello and the drive into town is very easy. We were so comfortable and content, and I would certainly return if I'm ever staying in Charlottesville again!
