About James Dunton
I grew up on a farm in very rural eastern tidewater VA (northern neck) learned to find pleasure in life of very simple things. After graduating from college I left for the big city down south (Atlanta) where my eyes grew wide as I approached the skyline and knew this was going to be home for the next phase of life. There I stayed for a very fast 8 years and did a quick stint out in San Diego for 2 years before feeling the call to return back to the home state of VA. Charlottesville was a completely new experience but one that I was quite certain would be a very welcomed change which it was. Since moving I have completely fallen for this town, the way of life here, the culture, people and the proud sense of community.
James Dunton purchased this House in 2011
Why James Dunton chose Charlottesville
As I approached my mid 30's I couldn't disregard the calling to return to a rural setting and embrace slowing things down a bit. I was anxious to get my hands in the dirt and grow my own food and hear the crickets and frogs at night and leave the lights of the big city behind. After buying the property I quickly realized this was exactly the perfect fit!
What makes this House unique
Spending just a few days here always recharges my batteries for new challenges or traveling for work. Whether I am working in the garden, cutting wood, cooking a fresh grown meal or just relaxing outside soaking up the afternoon sunshine this place is the perfect getting away and enjoying the simplicities of life.

We really enjoyed our time there. The house is comfortable and there is a amazing view.
We had a wonderful stay! The description of the property was very accurate. Plenty of room for our party of 8. The fire pit was a bonus. We liked how close it was to the things we wanted to see in Charlottesville, but secluded as well. The kitchen was stocked with all the things we needed. Everyone loved the waffle maker! Thanks again for the great stay.
Cozy, homey retreat
A home away from home. What lovely property with the hominess to relax and the amenities to enjoy a small group gathering. Our family had a lovely stay, enjoyed stoling around the proert with our kids, showing them the pond, garden and wildlife. Thank you for sharing your property and for carefully curating a comfortable experience.
Peace and Perfection
A marvelous home in a marvelous location. Serenely secluded and quiet, but only minutes from downtown Charlottesville, Monticello, and more. Plus this spacious, welcoming property is equipped with all the comforts of a true home. A major plus: the beds are extremely comfortable! We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again, and as seasoned Vrbo/HomeAway travelers, we can't recommend it highly enough.
Great place to stay for the weekend!!!
This is a great place to stay and we enjoyed our time. Past reviews mentioned uber and lyft were not hard to get but we had a hard time getting it the weekend we were there - but overall it was a great time and the property was great and exactly how it is posted!!
Enjoyed our Cville Stay
The home is just lovely and has all the amenities you could ask for. The bed was very comfortable. Check-in/Check-out went very smoothly. This was the best VRBO property I have stayed in. We would definitely stay here again when in the area.
