Bayfront Cottage, Fish from the Dock, Screen Porch, lovely 4 acres of privacy

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,300 sq ft
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Bath, a Beautiful View of the Bay, Nearby Beach, Wildlife Refuge

We have looked for the perfect beach house for many years! We finally found it in the summer of 2014. This cottage sits on a secluded 4 acre lot surrounded by live oaks and huge pines! You can enjoy the sunrise and sunsets overlooking Mobile Bay while sitting on your screen porch or out on your private dock. Bringing along a canoe or small boat, you have your own small boat launch from the yard.

Our property is a Birder's Heaven. Not only can you sit on the screen porch and watch Great Blue Herons, Osprey and Pelicans fly by and fish for a meal around the dock, but the neotropical migrants are amazing. We enjoy the hummingbirds also!

This cottage is one of a kind! The interior is a classic with heart pine floors, walls and ceilings. The cottage has 3 bedrooms, with the master suite having its own bath. The other two bedrooms share a lovely bath. There is a laundry room with washer and dryer. The kitchen includes a full stove and oven, dishwasher, and all the necessary cooking supplies to make it possible to prepare your own meals. Or you may drive just a few miles to enjoy fine cuisine at a number of restaurants at the Beach Club or in Gulf Shores.

Mobile Bay is a fisherman's paradise! You can fish off your private dock, catch live crab with one of the traps on site, or put your boat in and enjoy the bay. Mark catches redfish, flounder and specks.

If you enjoy the beach side of Ft Morgan, the Mobile St public beach is a short drive (or bicycle) away. I love to walk or run the Pine Beach Trail across highway 180 through Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. See photos to see the beauty! If you like to ride bicycles, there is a nice bike trail just down the road that goes all the way into Gulf Shores. The cottage is only about 8 miles from Gulf Shores, close enough to run to town for groceries!

Amazing and unique! You'll love it. Such a quiet, private home, while still being so near the beach. We love the quarter mile driveway.

What makes this cottage unique

4 acres of peace and quiet on the water. Bird watching paradise. Fish from the dock or put in a canoe and paddle around the bay. Sitting on the huge screen porch watching the dolphin dance and fish...and pelicans and Great Blue Herons fish as well.

Perfect Setting

  • 5 of 5

This rental "fit the bill" for a short get-away in a beautiful setting. The home fit our needs and surpassed in many regards. Furnishings were comfortable, kitchen well stocked , & quiet surroundings which made for good rest. The view from the screened porch couldn't be beat. Plenty of time spent on that porch from early mornings and again in the evenings. Always nice to be greeted by a "clean" rental and no problem there. Plenty of linens and starter paper items via Reed Realty. Check-in/out process went smoothly. We enjoyed great seafood meals in the nearby area + enjoyed biking & hiking. Wish we'd had a kayak to explore more of the Bay ... maybe next time. Thanks, Maggie, for sharing your home!

My wife and I (mid-60's), one of our sons and his wife (early, mid 40's) and two granddaughters (13 and 16) spent a week at Maggie's Bay Cottage during mid-June 2018. Bottom-line up-front: The best vacation property we have ever rented!

Maggie's Bay Cottage is just as advertised--a beautifully restored, rustic, cottage located in a private, wooded setting. It was extremely clean and well-furnished both inside and outside--private pier, two screened porches with views, lots of rockers, lounges, many ceiling fans, good air conditioning, and pet-friendly.

Unlike most beach rentals where we have stayed, the Bay Cottage included a full-sized washer, dryer, and hot water tank; and it was furnished with everything our family needed or wanted from kitchen/ bath furnishings, satellite TV, Blue-Ray with a collection of family-friendly movies, WiFi, outdoor shower, pier chairs. We could have arrived with just our gym bags and been very comfortable.

VERY private, VERY quiet, and VERY relaxing. Great, close-up views of dolphins, pelicans, and sunsets from the pier and porch. Dense, coastal forest with large mossy oaks separate the cottage from neighbors on side properties, and shield one from the sight & sound of Hwy 180 at the other end of the long driveway.

We had great fun fishing from the pier--our 13-year old granddaughter was thrilled to catch (and release) her largest catch ever--a 20+ pound Black Drum, and we also caught speckled trout, catfish, and lots of smaller fish.

The water is clean and its condition ranges from glassy to light chop, it is shallow for at least 150 feet from the shore, there is no undertow, and we saw no annoying flotsam (weed, logs, trash) or jellyfish. While there is no beach due the shore being protected by a rock seawall, one can easily wade into the bay via a private boat slip, or by descending a swimmer's ladder at the end of the pier where the water's depth is about 3-4 feet.

A Dollar General store, a locally-owned general store, a seafood shop, a gas station, federal nature trails, and a Gulf-side public beach are all within a 5 minute drive. Larger grocery/drug stores, a Super Wal-Mart, tourist attractions (Hang Out, LuLu's, shopping at The Wharf, souvenir shops, etc), many restaurants, and the State Park are slightly further away, but still only about a 10-20 minute drive.

Thanks to Maggie and Mark for sharing their Bay Cottage. We highly recommend, and hope for a return visit in our future.

Breathtaking views of the bay surrounded by nature!

Beautiful clean home with everything for a comfortable stay. Start and end your day on the relaxing screen porch listening to birds. My husband fished from the dock every day appreciating sunrise and sunset views. My dogs swam in the bay every day and walked the scenic driveway . Thanks Maggie for sharing your home.

Two weeks of relaxation!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at your Bayfront Cottage. We saw several sunsets but only made it up early enough to see sunrise one day...unfortunately a bit cloudy that day. Our little dog was afraid of the pier at first but became accustomed to it, then would expect to go to the pier/dock any time we stepped out the back door. I think she enjoyed the pelicans and dolphins as much as we did. We sat on the screened porch often and enjoyed lunch on the porch table. The kitchen had everything needed for meal preparation. Our time was spent very quietly and we only ate out twice. However, there were plenty of restaurants just a short drive away. We especially appreciated having a washer and dryer at our convenience.
