Born in Shropshire in 1948, I worked for a major bank for 25 years before starting my own business -Infomedia Services Limited. I am married to Tina who comes from Trinidad. We have three sons and five grandchildren who all love to visit Gin Ganga.
Graham Tomlins purchased this villa in 2003
In 2003 I decided to buy the property as we drove up the long drive. That speaks for itself and the photos do the rest. Ajith drove us to see the house and he and his family are still looking after it after so many years.
Two acres of lush garden surrounded by water to three sides and so much wildlife that you can have a nature tour in you own garden. Eleven years later and we still love it. Top moment is to have a gin and tonic in the 40 foot pool and watch the monkeys - in the trees. You need never leave the house - but do because Sri Lanka has so much beauty and culture to offer.
We were a party of 10 (7 adults and 3 children between 6-12 years
old). The house was absolutely lovely and exceeded all of our expectations. The staff was nothing less than fantastic with their incredible service mindedness and friendly appearance. We let Ajith cook for us on most evenings and the meals were great. The BBQ was particularly great as well as having it outside in the garden. There wasn´t a thing we asked Ajith and the staff for or about that he failed to answer or deliver. I can totally recommend this house.
We were a party of 10 adults and 2 children ages 4 & 2. The warmth of the welcome the staff gave us could not have been more genuine and they were fantastic throughout. The house and pool were spotless and the catering simply superb. I would unreservedly recommend Gin Ganga for its facilities, location and outstanding service. The location particularly merits mention for its river front location and super wildlife: birds especially but also monitor lizards, Langur monkeys and charming little chipmunks.
Trips to Bentota Turtle sanctuary, Mirissa whale watching, Unawatuna beach and Galle fort/town were all great.
A wonderful holiday facilitated by a very efficient manager and wonderfully friendly staff.
The photos give a very accurate impression of the house and gardens - it really is beautiful. A wonderful secluded location but close to beach, town and other activities in the area. Ajith, Mali and the team at the house are warm, generous and unstintingly helpful - we wanted for nothing. Ajith is also a fantastic guide to the rest of the island - you can safely put any travel arrangements in his hands. I can't recommend Gin Ganga highly enough - it's a truly special place.
5 adults seeking a little rest after touring the hill country.
GinGanga was exactly as " described on the tin" and exceeded expectations on every level.
Pre - arrival the correspondence with both Julie from GT villas and Graham the owner, was both prompt and professional with all queries answered.
We intend to return to Sri-Lanka for the third time this year very shortly, and would consider spending part of our trip back in Gin Ganga.
It satisfied us all on every level, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the house and the staff.
Our holiday at Gin Ginga was a holiday that dreams are made of. 10 of us spent 10 days in this superb setting which can only be compared to having our own private nature reserve. The Children ranged from 2 years to 7 years and every morning the children loved a pre breakfast walk round the gardens and over the bridge to say good morning to the monkeys and water monitors and every night were out catching fire flies. Days were busy but relaxing with many wonderful hours spent by the pool. We were very well looked after by Ajith, his wife and the rest of the staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble and I could not rate them high enough. Every day we chose our menus, Ajith shopped for the freshest food and it was cooked to perfection. The curries were more than delicious and the BBQ's were like banquets. We were very very well looked after and appreciated all that they did for us. The local beach is beautiful and very quiet, there are also some fun rock pools. We had a few days out to different Beaches including Unawatuna (for snorkeling), Hikkaduwa (where we saw turtles by the beach) and Weligama (which is fun for surfing). Galle and the Fort are close by and the sunsets are superb and should not be missed.
My main concern for the villa before arrival was the safety of my 2 year old running near the pool and river but she soon learnt the boundaries and kept at a safe distance at all times. There were no negatives about the villa at all, but our luggage was delayed from Dubai so I would always advise packing your swimsuit in your hand luggage just in case.
One day we hope to return to Gin Ganga and relive what can only be described as the most relaxing holiday I have ever had!
The house, gardens and overall experience is already very well described in earlier reviews - spotlessly clean and inviting pool set in well maintained beautiful gardens with an incredible variety of flora and wildlife all around. A stunning assault on the senses! Monkeys provide frequent entertainment and no threat and I am missing the lovely birdsong. The first time we saw a water monitor was a little disconcerting but we soon realised they posed little threat too. The river and lake snaking around the gardens provide a stunning backdrop, at once there is constant amusement for the children, they would have been happy to spend every day at the house, and it is a place of stunning serenity at the same time. That said even a wander into Galle and to local shops, beaches and the Fort is entertaining, colourful and vibrant. Ajith caters for the longer trips perfectly as he knows everyone and everything about the island, so you don't need to arrange anything for yourself! Ajith, his wife Marli and son Banda live in the grounds of the property and they and the other staff are so kind and generous with their every attention to your needs - it truly is a perfect holiday - and gives one a new persepctive on the kindness of people. We (Mr, Mrs and 4 children: 14, 12, 10 and 6) have been holidaying in the med in the Summer for many years, and while there are obvious pleasures and the beaches can be calm like a pond, coming to Sri Lanka for the first time offered so much more of a rewarding experience. I was slightly concerned that we would find the heat difficult to deal with but actually after a day or two we found it more comfortable and pleasant than the scorching dry heat of the Med in high Summer. The ground is not burning hot and meither is the top of your head! The island is so lush and beautiful, clouds pass, the occasional shower - it all adds to the variey of the experience - it is quite a comfortable climate, The beaches are naturally beautiful and maybe not as much to do there as on European beaches but good fun for big waves and surf for a quick trip out, maybe join in a game of cricket. But as mentioned it was hard to get the kids away from Gin Ganga's pool and gardens - circket on the lawn there too and so much entertainment - intrepid expeditions across the bridge onto "monkey island", obstacle races around the gardens and the lovely property is beautiful and comfortable. Couldn't recommend Gin Ganga more unreservedly!
The property is 1 km from Galle, a fishing town famous from its Dutch Fort. Colombo and the airport are four hours away. The nearest beach is 400 metres from the house AND diving can be found 10 minutes away at Unawatuna Bay. Day trips to Bentota, the Turtle Sanctuary and to Yala National Park for safari drives. Overnight trips to Pinawalla Elephant orphanage, Kandy, Sigiriya and the Tea Plantations.
