NEW FOR 2015/2016 and beyond - all new kitchen appliances and granite counter tops in the kitchen and bathroom with new sinks and faucets. Pictures are posted. We are now owned by Deer Valley so you can expect resort improvements constantly. For example, the old Summit double chair is being replaced by a high speed detachable quad this summer. Food and Beverage operations, along with Customer Service, will be greatly improved this year!
Ground level condo allows access to Solitude Ski Village out the patio door, no stairs or elevators between you and this lovely European style ski village. The master bedroom has a King sized bed, bunk beds have been replaced by an executive desk and work area (printer/scanner incl.) for the professional with a skiing problem that needs to get a little work done while skiing the 'Greatest Snow on Earth'. Living room has a comfortable Queen sized sleeper sofa (with integrated air mattress, super comfie) in front of the gas fireplace. 'Condo 101' artwork and features that you see in all the other condos have been replaced with professionally framed photographs and custom artwork so you feel more at home and less in a generic resort condo. This suite is perfect for a couple and up to two kiddos - we have had two adult couples in here multiple times and that works OK for a few days if you are pretty good friends. If you must watch TV while here, we have DirecTV service with new HDTV's (all the AV inputs you need for movies, game consoles, etc.) in the living room and bedroom. There is a set of self powered Apple speakers that any digital music player can connect to for high quality music. The kitchen has new stainless appliances and granite counter tops (new in 2015)and is well stocked with a crock pot, fondue pot, blender, grind and brew coffee maker, cocktail and wine glasses, spices and enough plates, etc. so you are not running the dishwasher after every meal! Gosh, I almost forgot to tell you about the resort that is located right out the door. We are located 40 minutes from SLC airport and offer underground parking for your rental car, or you can catch a shuttle up and back if you are not road tripping anywhere during your stay. I have done the shuttle many times because once I get here, I don't want to go anywhere else! (Canyon Transport shuttles will make grocery and liquor store stops on the way up canyon if you pre-arrange and take you to other ski resorts and back) Solitude Village is small and cozy, with all the amenities you need unless you are a serial shopper (Salt Lake is 20 minutes away and Park City is less than one hour away if shopping is your thing). There are two resort gift shops, one in the village and one at Moonbeam Center and a small grocery shop in the reception center. There is a lighted skating rink directly in front of the condo with a fire-pit and weekend smores parties, the Stone Haus is 50 feet away and features pizzas, subs, salads and ice cream. The Thirsty Squirrel pub is around the front of the building and they offer food in addition to a full bar (forget what you have heard about Utah liquor laws, it's pretty normal here now). Another hundred feet away is the Honeycomb Grill with some innovative cuisine offerings and a full bar and decent wine list. Next door in the Inn at Solitude, you will find St Bernards', a higher end French style restaurant with the Library Pub adjacent. If you make reservations ahead of time, you can also ski or snowshoe to the Yurt for an unforgettable rustic dining experience. Club Solitude is a couple hundred feet away and offers a good sized heated swimming pool, hot tubs (we also have a hot tub behind the lodge), game room for the kids, media room, pool table and saunas. Now, my favorite part, the ski resort! Snowboards are allowed and encouraged, though if you want a terrain park you need to go up the road 2 miles to Brighton, where they also have night skiing/boarding. Plenty of terrain here at Solitude regardless of your skiing ability; ski school and beginners area with green trails galore down at Moonbeam (base area just below the Village base area). Intermediate cruisers abound as well as tree skiing, bowl skiing and back country gate access (you must have avalanche gear to go out the gates unless you have a death wish). We average 500 inches of snow each year and that makes for really soft slopes under foot (or under butt if you are inclined to falling often) and legendary powder skiing, just like you see in the Warren Miller films. If you prefer groomed slopes, we have the best grooming crew in the ski industry and there is groomed terrain of every skill level available. There is also a Nordic Center up the road at Brighton and a shuttle to take you there and back as well as snowshoe trails all over. Summertime is pretty special up here as well, mountain biking trails, disc golf course (on the mountain) and hiking trails everywhere, wildflowers and wildlife make this a great summer get away and vacation spot. The Sunrise chairlift runs Friday-Sunday and you can rent mountain bikes and golfing discs any day of the week.
Born and raised in Vermont, moved to Atlanta in 1991. Own and operate my own businesses so I have a very flexible schedule.
Douglas Cram purchased this condo in 2006
Best skiing in the world, and lots of great people here. Never really crowded and much warmer than the other side of the Rockies.
proximity to the airport and the city are big factors, together with the fact that I can explore so many beautiful places from here.
The property was centrally located in the village. It was a short walk from the shuttle to Moonbeam and Nordic Center. If you were lucky and you were the only ones on the shuttle, the driver would drop you at the Powderhorn Pedestrian gate which was an easy walk to the lodge.
The ski lockers and laundry facilities were great amenities to have in the lodge.
Unit 103 was easily accessible and very quiet. It was well appointed with all the necessities of home including lots of towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, laundry detergent, cooking utensils, pots, pans, variety of glassware and cookie sheets (several sizes even for pizza). The spices, olive oils, vinegars, coffee, general kitchen staples facilitated cooking (didn't have to buy large quantities to be wasted).
We had no problem with the WiFi. It seemed to be reliable at the times we were using it.
The fireplace added ambiance and heat, was easy to use. The outside balcony provided a fun space to enjoy coffee and apres skiing people watching.
All in all, this was a great place to spend a week in the mountains. It was like being home away from home.
Rental experience was quite simple; accommodations were as promised and met our needs well.
The condo was well stocked and conveniently located to the village as advertised. The WiFi was a little aggravating because it would not stay connected and we had to keep logging in. It was a minor inconvenience compared to our overall stay. It was perfect for two people but may be a little tight for 4 or more. We would highly recommend this property.
The condo was clean, cozy and very convenient. Kitchen was fully equipped with everything needed for cooking including condiments. We enjoyed our stay very much.
Great accommodations for my wife and I. We stayed here last year and decided to go back this year - good/fair cost per night, very comfortable place to stay for the 2 of us (large enough to accommodate another skier), very convenient location to Solitude Ski Resort (a lift is within a short walk, right past ticket window), several restaurants are within a short walk, shuttle pickup/drop-off to & from Brighton Ski Resort is only a few hundred yards walk; what more could you ask for? The unit is well-equipped and well stocked for cooking needs (spices, oils, condiments). The Powderhorn Lodge is very clean & comfortable place to stay!
We had another enjoyable stay and if/when we travel back to this area will definitely check availability of this unit.
This was our second stay at Powderhorn 103. It's just so perfect, why try anywhere else. So close to everything. All we need for a few days of fun and relaxation. I hope we are back soon!!!
