Overview

About the property

Chalet - 1 Bedroom/1 Bath, 400 Sq. Ft. (Sleeps 2)

As the description implies, Mountainside Chalet (MSC) is a "Tiny House" Hideaway (Definition of a tiny house is subjective, but it's a home of about 400 square feet or less, either on wheels or a foundation). MSC is on a foundation and nestled amongst the trees in Packwood, WA. Historic Packwood is situated between Mt. Rainier, Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, surrounded by the Gifford Pinchot National Forest, and at the very center of Washington's White Pass Scenic Byway (Hwy 12), 'Playground of Volcano Country.' It is 7 miles from the southeast entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park and 19 miles from the White Pass Ski Area.

Mountainside Chalet's coziness will charm you. Drift into dreamland on a comfy mattress, with plump pillows and snugly, warm blankets.

Immediately outside is a deck w/private hot tub & outdoor table & chairs, for enjoying fresh alpine air. Behind the house is a wonderfully wooded area and Hall Creek tempting a visit, along with the neighborhood elk.

Cozy, clean, warm, and great location! Highly recommend.

We rented this property for a weekend ski trip to White Pass. The snow was not exactly what we were hoping for, but this property did not disappoint. Instead of skiing we snow shoed and hiked, and the hot tub and full kitchen was everything we we needed when we got back. This home is just the right size and location for a cozy getaway for two.

Very cozy and wonderful cabin! Perfect getaway spot for two!

  • 4 of 5

Clean and cozy. The only thing I would note is that the hot tub is not under a covered porch so, be sure to check the weather first. Otherwise, a perfect getaway!

Relaxing weekend

  • 5 of 5

My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed this cabin. It was clean, comfortable and in a great location close to many hiking trails and a short drive to ski areas. The hot tub was awesome too, very relaxing. We also loved Packwood, the people were very friendly and the restaurants were very good. We'll be back!

great place to base your stay in the Mt. Rainier area

  • 5 of 5

We spent the better part of a week in this fabulous "Mountainside Chalet". It was perfect for two people and was everything it was advertised to be.

It was immaculately clean and had everything you needed for a stay. Pots, pans, linens and even dish soap. We couldn't have been more pleased unless someone would have cooked our meals also.

The views from the area were magnificent and especially good from the hot tub!

Marilly was very responsive to any question we had via email. It was a great place to day trip from. Mt. St Helens and Rainier were very close. The Yakima fruit orchids were an easy day trip. Seattle would have been an easy trip, but we ran out of time.

I highly recommend this property for a stay in the Packwood area and I would make it my first choice if I came back to visit.

About Marilly Morton

Fred, as a teacher, is a life-time learner. His passion is family reading and sports. Marilly has a passion for family, birds, photography, and traveling, visiting Nicaragua, The Netherlands, Germany & Italy. We both visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Switzerland, Vancouver Island, Victoria BC, & Aruba. Fred managed a sailing trip to Belize with our oldest son.

To keep the international flavor in our home, we hosted exchange students including: two German, two Japanese, two Koreans, and one Colombian.

Besides our four vacation rentals, we own 2 Subway stores (in Portland, OR).

Marilly Morton purchased this chalet in 2006

Why Marilly Morton chose Packwood

We love the mountains, and Packwood is very like Switzerland, only the mountains are smaller and farther apart. It is in the center of Gifford Pinchot Nat'l Forest, 7 miles from the southern entrance to Mt. Rainier Nat'l Park, and surround by Tatoosh, William O Douglas, and Goat Rocks Wilderness areas, offering year round recreational activities. There is a constant flow of wildlife including: elk, coyotes, raccoon, fox, black bear, bald eagles, beaver and more, and .

What makes this chalet unique

I love the outdoors and it doesn't get more outdoors than this: set in tall timbers, Hall Creek singing water mysteries at the falls behind the house, private hot tub, star studded sky, passing elk, peeks of Mt. Rainier. . . what a combination! Private, cozy, comfortable and AFFORDABLE all at the same time. It's a great place for dreaming! We have 4 houses on adjacent properties, and there have been a couple occasions when all the houses were full, forcing us to rent local hotel rooms. It was more expensive in the hotel with far less amenities and privacy, so why would you want to stay anywhere else?
