Good but not great

  • 3 of 5

American Country Cabin was fine. It did not have any really big problems. It also did not have any really big reasons to recommend it, either.

The communication provided prior to our arrival at the cabin was good, but had one important mistake. The directions said to turn right directly after a specific restaurant. Unfortunately, the restaurant was apparently out of business, and there was no sign that any such establishment had ever existed. Luckily for us we turned around after going just a bit past the turn, so we didn't lose more than a few minutes.

I wish there would have been clear indication of how steep the driveway is before we got there. If there would have been snow or even rain falling, I seriously doubt our sedan would have made it up. The driveway is majorly steep, and gravel. Putting our car in first gear, we still spun our tires some before making it up.

The driveway is developing a relatively good size sink hole; luckily we got there when it was still daylight and were able to see it well enough to avoid it.

The code to get in the front door worked perfectly. Inside, the cabin is very cute. The loft bedroom has two twin beds and a large full bathroom. The master bath (first floor) is also large, and just across the hall from the smallish master bedroom. The master bedroom had a feature that was very unusual (I've never encountered it before in renting cabins, anyway), that also was the worst part of the cabin to us. The bed had a wooden platform that was built to hold a king sized bed. However, the mattress was only a queen. Therefore, the wooden platform extended past the bottom and both sides of the mattress. Given that the edge of the mattress was only about 18 inches from the window on the one side of the bed, the platform took up quite a bit of valuable floor space. In addition, when I got up in the night to use the bathroom, I had to use the flashlight on my phone to ensure I didn't stub my toe. The platform was a definite hazard, in my opinion.

Outside the master bedroom is a very cute screened in porch with an outside fireplace. I wish the porch would have been larger, to make it easier to sit a little further away from the fire in one of the arm chairs provided. Inside and out the hosts provided several blankets, which were much appreciated in the chilly weather we had. The cabin has no view of the mountains, and we found no good hikes near enough to get to without a car.

As advertised, great getaway rental

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay, the cabin was great, far enough away from town to feel secluded and close enough to go in as we liked. I needed low gear to get up the driveway in my v6 truck, but there was no warning about the steepness of the driveway until we drove up to it. Great overall and would recommend to anyone.

i would love to come back for a longer stay. it is a little out of the way but extremely worth it. the only drawback is the steep driveway but like i said it is worth it.

It was not cleaned or inspected before our arrival

  • 2 of 5

when arriving we found that the main floor bath was flooded. Water was dripping from the light fixture due to water overflowing during the previous guests shower. Dangerous! Dirty towels in washer, coffee grounds in machine, trash in cans, the commode would not flush and the floor and rugs were filthy. We notified the owners and they did take care of the plumbing issues. We were also told we would be credited $100.00 . We have not received our statement yet but I presume they will keep their word.

An unforgettable family vacation

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great stay at the American Country cabin.

The location was remote and yet convenient to area attractions.

All you need for a comfy stay whether for the weekend or for the week.

The owners were quick to respond to any questions that we had.

We had a great hike on the Appalachian trail. A must visit is the swinging bridge on the Toccoa river.

We visited downtown Blue Ridge. Beautiful shops and restaurants. A must visit is Joe's BBQ. Go early cause he runs out of ribs often. And the potato salad is to die for😊

Our favorite shops were Huck's general store, Humble Pie (love their soaps and fashions. And very affordable), Three sisters fudge (our favorite is salted caramel), Blue Ridge bath store ( their soy candles are amazing) and a few others.

McCaysville is just a few minutes away. There are a few cute shops to visit there as well. McCaysville drug and gun is a neat store for meds and different items for your shooting pleasure. IGA is a great hometown grocery store. It came in handy a few times. Very nice people too. And of course you have to get your picture taken on the Tennessee/Georgia line. It was weird to have one foot in Tennessee and one foot in Georgia😊.

A very fun time was had by all. We are definitely hoping to return again real soon.
