Downtown Minneapolis: Thriving Performing-Arts Scene near Idyllic Lakes

Downtown Minneapolis is more than just the geographic epicenter of the city—it’s the cultural heart too. Sports venues home to the Timberwolves, Vikings, and Twins neighbor the lively nightclubs of the Warehouse District and the neon-lit marquees of the Hennepin Theater District. In recent years, the city’s arts scene has gotten a lot of attention, and for good reason: Minneapolis has more live theater shows per capita than any other US city except New York. Additionally, dozens of eclectic galleries complement the wide-ranging exhibits at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, which showcases everything from Japanese woodcut prints to turn-of-the-century European advertisements.

To navigate downtown with ease, step into the Skyway, the city’s ingenious solution to harsh Minnesota winters. The Skyway is a network of indoor, aboveground tunnels connecting a slew of buildings downtown. A popular stop along the way is Nicollet Mall, a shopping thoroughfare where cars are not allowed. This is where you’ll find the iconic statue of Mary Tyler Moore tossing her 10-gallon Stetson into the air.

Nicknamed “The City of Lakes,” Minneapolis has 22 natural bodies of water within the city limits. A 10-minute drive from downtown brings you to the picturesque Chain of Lakes, which are surrounded by 12 miles of walking and biking paths. In the summer, the Lake Harriet band shell hosts summer concerts, which frequently include the renowned Minnesota Orchestra.

Charming home, central location and an excellent host!

  • 5 of 5

This property is charming with comfortable beds, very clean and stocked with everything you need. Front sun room is a great spot to drink coffee. Icing on the cake - you can rent bikes from Lance and ride around the lakes. The location is great (very close to uptown) with lots of parking out front and walking distance from a few great restaurants. Don't hesitate to book! You will not be sorry. We're never staying in a hotel again.

Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU, Lance. We can't wait to return.

Perfect Home Base

  • 5 of 5

Me, my husband and our two daughters visit Minneapolis every summer and usually stay with a relative, so this was the first time we sprung for our own place and I'm so glad we did. When we arrived there was a bottle of wine and glasses waiting for us. Nice touch. A few additional highlights:

* Good, central location (tho technically not in Uptown as my husband was quick to point out)

* Short walk to restaurants and shops

* Nice interior spaces, comfortable / huge flat backyard with shade sails

* TVs in every room—perfect when you want the kids and adults to be able to enjoy their own separate spaces

* Tons of street parking

* Washer and dryer

* Kitchen with everything you need to cook and entertain

* Lance is very quick to respond, he never left me hanging when I emailed a question

We stayed for a week and there was one day that we literally did not leave the house. We had visitors coming and going all day and it was just a great place to gather and hang out. Pretty sure we won't be staying with relatives... ever again.

This unit was perfect for our stay in Minneapolis

  • 5 of 5

Our party included myself, my daughter and her husband, and their 16-month old baby. We stayed a total of 5 days and this unit was perfect for us. It was spacious, well stocked with everything you might need (including Pak and Play, high chair etc.), and was nicely maintained with modern appliances. The unit is in a safe neighborhood within walking distance of a great park with tennis courts, play equipment and an outdoor wading pool. We went to the park every day and also enjoyed the back yard eating area in the evening. We would definitely use this unit again when we return to the area.

Charming, Comfortable Place to Call Home

  • 5 of 5

This was the perfect place for us to stay with our 2 adult sons over a long Father's Day weekend. The location was near parks, coffee shops and great restaurants. It was also close enough that our Minneapolis family could bike there. Lance was great to work with throughout the whole process, and he made sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. Even though there was always sufficient parking on the street, it was nice to have the garage to park in at night. Our 2 year old grandson now calls this "Jampa's House." We'd love to stay here again. Couldn't have asked for a better experience!

Owner's Response: Jampa's House. I love it. So pleased to have a new name for this place. And more so that your grandson now has a memory of a place close by that he will be able to visit the next time you come to town. The review is beyond my expectations. I am extremely grateful for your kind comments and for taking the time. I don't think I can add anything. "I couldn't have asked for a better experience" Says it all. Thanks I look forward to having you back in the near future. Minnestay
