Overview

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 4

Be assured that this property functions completely within the legal restrictions recently set in place by the Mayor of Paris for short term and vacation rentals.

Enjoy this newly renovated and decorated one-bedroom apartment in one of Paris’s most sought out neighborhoods. Parisian artist, Françoise Dutourleau, has decided to open her home to guests after having renovated it to incorporate some of the same details found in only the best hotels. Opposed to staying in a hotel, you’ll have room to spread out and cook in the gourmet kitchen.

The bathroom is new and spacious with both a shower and large tub as well as two sinks.

Some nice amenities include two flat screen TVs, a CD player, excellent wifi throughout the apartment, hairdryer, washer/dryer and, a Nespresso coffee maker. We have a good assortment of books on Paris in the apartment to help you plan your visit. An added feature is free cable with movies of your choice and a telephone with free calls to the United States. A nice bottle of champagne will be chilling in the refrigerator to welcome you to Paris.

The apartment is nestled on a quiet one-way street on the left bank. This is a real neighborhood with a generous assortment of restaurants, bakeries, boutiques, markets and bars within an easy strolling radius. The lively and colorful rue Mouffetard is about a ten minute walk where you can kick back and enjoy the bustle and join the locals dancing on Sunday mornings. Rue Mouffetard has buildings that date from the middle ages and it now hosts a colorful, daily fruit and vegetable market. The Jardin des Plantes, its museums and the Seine are both easily accessible by foot with the Jardin des Plantes being no more than a few minute walk. Also easily accessible is the Pantheon, Place Monge, Arène de Lutèce, the Sorbonne and Luxembourg Gardens.

If you love to eat, there are a plethora of choices including a one star guide Michelin restaurant which is one of our favorites and is no more than two blocks away. In addition to the traditional bistros, local restaurants and bars, the neighborhood offers some excellent ethnic choices. If you get tired of dining out, the apartment offers dishes, pots, pans and silver so as to enable you to prepare a lovely dinner in Françoise's beautifully equipped kitchen. (Keep in mind that there are five bakeries, not including rue Mouffetard, so you should always be able to find fresh bread and goodies daily.)

The apartment will be Françoise’s permanent residence in the near future. As a result, it is evident that much love went into the restoration with an attention to quality and aesthetics. Françoise’s goal is that those who choose her apartment will have a beautiful and welcoming place to stay. For example, you can count on a bottle of champagne to be waiting for you as well as some of her favorite wines!

I will be meeting you at the apartment with keys to give you a tour of the apartment and to help answer any questions on getting settled into the neighborhood. More often than not I am only a phone call away.

About Loui Franke

I decided to retire in Paris after having lived and worked in Key West, Florida for about 20 years. I recently published a book called 'Parisian Postcards : Snapshots of Life in Paris' and I continue to enjoy sharing my experiences of living here with others. I am helping the owner, Françoise, with her lovely apartment.

Loui Franke purchased this apartment in 2014

Why Loui Franke chose Jardin des Plantes

Françoise has many wonderful memories of this part of Paris and so she and her husband bought this apartment for their retirement home. They have renovated and decorated the flat with love and wish to share their piece of paradise with others. As an added bonus you can enjoy Françoise's beautiful and original paintings.

Charming Parisian Apartment

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week in this charming and well located apartmemt. We loved being in a less touristy neighborhood and so enjoyed the local restaurants and businesses (do take Loui's recommendations for local food shops). We were able to walk to many great areas and sites and when needed, the metro was a short walk. The apartment is well appointed for guests and they have so many little touches that made is so easy for international travelers. Having all the guide books was fun to do further research or learn more about the history of Paris and many of its sites. If you want a great meal that is walking distance - try Sallea for classic French dishes with a twist (new when we were there in May) and Bistrot 13 for home style couscous on the weekends. It is obvious that Loui and Franciose really care that their guests have a great stay!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

Our trip was fantastic. This was our first experience with a rental home so I had concerns but it went very well. The property was clean and had all of the necessities throughout. Loui, the property manager, as well as the owner, worked hard to ensure everything we would need was available to us. Umbrellas and a safe for our valuables were just some of the things I was not expecting but was thankful to have. In addition, they provided us with books and maps to help during our stay. They even went and bought games and coloring books for our kids! Location was another concern as I'm not familiar with Paris. The location was fantastic...close to shops, bakeries, grocery stores and the metro. Overall, our stay was a very positive one and I would certainly recommend this home.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words and for realising that we really do care about your stay. You were amazingly good sports considering the Napoleonic plumbing problem, the strikes and me in the hospital with only a cell phone. Thank you for your recommendation and we hope to see you back again in Paris.

Live Like a Local & Easy Access to Tourist Spots

  • 5 of 5

This place truly is a GEM! We stayed a month and wanted to not only hit the big sites in Paris, but to experience a "taste" of what it would be like to live as a Parisian. In addition, as two single women, it was important to us that our apartment was in a safe neighborhood, a quiet building and on the ground floor (we couldn't imagine climbing up and down 6 flights of steps like we saw in many other rentals) This apartment delivered on all counts, PLUS we were blown away by the "above and beyond touches" from the owner and the caretaker that made this a truly unique "feel like a local" experience.

First, the location: While the bus stop is on the same street, we loved using the metro (there are several metro hubs within a few blocks) This allowed us to get to any of the tourists sites throughout the city quickly and easily. Now the bonus: Literally one block from the apartment are the most charming neighborhood shops where most of the employees speak some English and all were very friendly and helpful. Our favorites: the cheese shop, the delicious artisan bakery, the butcher shop (you must try his fresh rotisserie chicken-but order the day before), the Italian men who have a fruit/vegetable shop and, across from the Jardin des Plantes, the "les crepes du jardin" corner creperie stand (delish! and only a few euros)

Next, the apartment. It's updated, spotless and "chic modern" showcasing the owner's original artwork. We enjoyed the quiet building, free wifi, access to the outdoors/fresh air via the quaint patio, a view of courtyard gardens, very comfy bed, and a stocked bookshelf. Don't worry-the bath amenities are all updated and modern/easy to use. Since we were here for a month, we used the kitchen and found that it had anything we needed when preparing a meal. We LOVED the easy-to-use Nespresso coffee machine and the electric kettle.

Finally, the owner & caretaker: Thoughtful touches from Francois (the owner/host) made our stay above-and-beyond what any luxury hotel room could have done (ex: we were delighted to find little treats such as a bottle of champagne, wine, beverages, or chocolates refreshed for us throughout our month-long stay)

Loui, the caretaker, is an awesome resource; she answered all our questions and provided us lots of invaluable tips throughout our visit. We also enjoyed reading Loui's book, Parisian Postcards, and learning of some off-the-beaten path places to visit in Paris.

This place truly is a GEM in Paris!

The Apartment is Wonderful as Described

  • 5 of 5

The apartment is exactly as described right down to the smallest detail. The location on the ground floor is quiet and convenient; you do not have to deal with an old elevator common to most Paris apartments. Loui is super helpful during your stay. I would stay here again.
