A wealth of period features and charm in a modern spacious cottage
About Jane Russell
Our family purchased this fabulous old racing stables in 2002, and embarked on a renovation project lasting 2 years. The cottage is in our grounds. I look after the two holiday cottages, and we also run a livery stables from Plymouth Copse. We have s small flock of sheep, lovely if you come during lambing, you can help feed the lambs. We also have 12 acre wood here which we are in the process of turning into a nature reserve.

Why Jane Russell chose Holywell
We are so ideally situated for exploring the region, in a rural location but only 5 minuets fron the A55 expressway. There is so much to do on the door step, but if you want to go a little further, for example to Anglesea or Liverpool is so easy to do. Our cottage has so much traditional charm, but also all the modern conveniences to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage is situated in the grounds of our house, a 16 century racing stables once owned by the Earl of Plymouth. We are situated in a rural position, surrounded by mature gardens, our own wood and pond, all for you to explore.

Beautiful cottage in a beautiful area
The countryside is serene and quiet; we were initially concerned due to the major roadway within view. This was a needless concern as we never heard any traffic. The cottage is beautifully decorated and homey with a gas fireplace that eliminates fooling about trying to get a wood fire going. Jane was the perfect host providing the essential makings for tea or coffee and cookies to go with. She stopped in to insure that we had everything we needed and made sure that we knew where to find her if we had any questions.
If we had to come up with any negatives, I guess it would be the lack of internet access as it was mentioned in the description of the property. For us, it was not a hardship as it was great getting away from the computer. And, had it become necessary, we would have been able to link our laptop to our cellphone.
We very much would like to come back again.
We stayed at the cottage for three nights and couldn’t fault the property itself. However, upon arrival we struggled to locate the property and Jane the owner was quite hard to get in touch with, which resulted in us driving around for 40minutes (directions used on the property listing was brief and unhelpful as we were coming from the opposite direction). After being at the property for about an hour, Jane called us back to advise she would be two hours max and would show us how to use the hot tub and other facilities; as we had traveled for over 3 hours to get away we were looking forward to getting settled and into the hot tub. When Jane arrived 4 hours later she had an abrupt attitude as she was disappointed that we were using the hot tub; when she never advised we couldn’t; whilst we can appreciate the health and safety implications behind using a hot tub, we had already signed the declaration but didn’t appreciate being spoken to in this manner. Apart from this, the cottage it’s self was perfectly situated; well equipped; clean and cosy. It was lovey to sit on the decking and use the hot tub when needed, as well as eating lunch and dinner in the sun. Apart from the few negatives we would definitely return as we had a lovely getaway.
NOT in the middle of nowhere!
We enjoyed our short break in the cottage which was easily found on Google Maps. Although the property is secluded at the end of a private track, it is still only a short distance from the A55 which enabled us to reach a number of destinations in N Wales quite easily. The central heating was good (it was cold and wet during our stay in May) and the hot water plentiful. There was lots of space to relax. Our only disappointment was that after we had booked, Jane pointed out that there would not be any WiFi even though the HomeAway listing said there would be. Loved the peacock which was remarkably quiet.
Home from home, spacious. Peacock in the garden was a nice touch along with the hot tub
A Welsh Gem 💎
