We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! Not right in town but close enough. Quiet area. The hot tub was great after a day of skiing!

We loved the house! Kitchen had practically everything you would need, and the gameroom and hot tub made it awesome! Lots of extra room for air matresses in gameroom and master bedroom. The master is huge. David is very nice and helpful, if we go back to Red River, we will definitely stay here again!

The Royer cabin was perfect for our Christmas get away. We were a party of 12 and we had plenty room

  • 5 of 5

When we arrived we were greeted by a heard mule deer and 2 inches of snow and this was a welcomed sight being that we are from Louisiana. We loved the quiet atmosphere and the location of the cabin. David Royer was easy to get in touch with and was only a phone call away with any questions that we had. We would definitely recommend this cabin.

Best Stay Ever

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year to stay in this cabin. It only gets better. We had 8 adults and 4 small children and even with the rainy weather, we never felt cramped or stepping on each other. The owners of this cabin are so great to work with and we look forward to staying there next summer or maybe during the winter.

Great location and unique perks!

  • 4 of 5

We would definitely stay here again! We were a party of 16 - 6 adults, 10 kids (2 of those kids being babies that slept in pack-n-plays). The other kids age ranges were from 3 y/o to 8 y/o with a mix of boys and girls. We never felt overcrowded. We did utilize the outside quite a bit since it was summer, so that probably helped a lot. This cabin is in the upper valley of Red River. Love this location! It has the convenience of having town close by but far enough away that you feel secluded. The views are awesome any direction you look outside of the cabin. The hot tub and shuffle board were huge hits! You won't find those cool perks in every cabin! We cooked every meal, except one (lunch), at the cabin and had everything we needed.

Some other things that are helpful to know.

The master bedroom is upstairs and huge. It has it's own bathroom, a king size bed, a couch and enough floor space to do cartwheels. However, it got hot and stuffy feeling up there (compared to the rest of the cabin). Opening doors and windows helped some. The other 2 rooms are smaller and have queen/full size beds. One of those rooms we could put a pack n play in, but could not in the other due to lack of floor space. The two downstairs rooms share a bathroom. The loft above the living room can sleep 5 in beds (maybe a few more if you have little kids) - 1 full, 3 twins. There is enough floor space in the loft to put an air mattress if needed. The loft also has a bathroom of its own, but it has saloon doors (which = little to no privacy). The linens, bathrooms and kitchen were clean, but it could use a good deep cleaning. There were 2 full and 1 partial covered parking areas (which came in handy one day when a small hail storm came through). I would be hard pressed to find a better cabin that works for our crew!

David is a great property owner! All business is handled in a timely manner. He provides a thorough guide that helps answer any questions you may have about the cabin - directions to the cabin, check in/out, using the hot tub and grill, etc. He is super friendly and will help answer questions about the area too. He gave us lots of suggestions for trail heads. We look forward to going back!

Great Family Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was great for the family, kids loved sitting in the hot tub watching deer and playing shuffleboard. The view from the huge porch is amazing and there is plenty of room for the kids to run and play. I would definitely recommend this cabin to any family that does not want to be in the middle of town, lots of close trailheads and the river is close as well. David was a breeze to deal with and talk to and answered any questions very quickly.

Thanks David for sharing your cabin with us we had a blast!

About David & Emily Royar

Married Couple with two children 18 and 21. Live in West of Fort Worth, I am in Golf Course management, and my Wife is an RN. Our 20 year old is a Senior in HS, and our 20 year old is a Junior at Texas Tech in Lubbock.

David & Emily Royar purchased this house in 2001

Why David & Emily Royar chose Red River

My wife and I both love the Mountains. When we saw the Upper Valley in Red River on a Vacation with family during the Winter, we knew we wanted to buy a piece of property there. We purchased on that winter ski trip and started to build that year. We have spent all of our family trips together in our beautiful house. We like the winters as much as the summers. Skiing is great with 3 ski resorts nearby, fishing is awesome, wildlife viewing is exceptional. If hiking is on your list, get ready. The highest peak in NM is right above our house (Wheeler Peak). Many small lakes too hike too, for fishing or just to sight see. Last but not least is the town of Red River. This is a great family place with all kinds of activities for the kids. Shopping and eating is at the top. You can walk from one end of the town to the other, no need for a car in town.

What makes this house unique

The highest mountain (Wheeler Peak) in New Mexico right above the house. The best views, places to hike, the most snow in New Mexico.
