About the property

Northern Cabin in the Woods

Northern cabin in the middle of the nowhere, but close to everything. This is right on the southern boundary of Wilderness State Park. This nearby park offers miles of shoreline, hiking trails and thousands of acres of unspoiled wilderness to explore. It feels like you're in Alaska up there, but it's only about 15 miles to Mackinaw City/Mackinaw Island ferries for plenty of fun activities, dining options and shopping. It's also only 3 miles to Sturgeon Bay to enjoy some of the best scenic dunes and sandy beaches on Lake Michigan.

The cabin is on a private road with a 10 acre lot in the northern hardwoods. It offers modern amenities including satellite tv, a fully equipped kitchen with a gas stove, and full bathroom. There is a cozy wood burning stove inside, charcoal and gas grill, and a fire pit out back to enjoy an evening campfire under the stars. An outdoor cedar sauna was recently installed right off of the back deck. It's a perfect place to relax and warm up on a cool night after a fun day in Northern MI.

Less than 5 miles away is McGulpin Point Lighthouse and the Headlands International Dark Sky Park- a property recent designated as one of only six International Dark Sky parks in the nation -- making it a bastion for stargazers.

There are 2 bedrooms upstairs, one with a queen sized bed and one with two twin beds. There is also a couch in the living room. The kitchen offers plenty of room for preparing meals and the dining area has seating for 5. Clean linens and towels are provided at check-in. We recommend bringing your own beach towels and blanket if you'll be enjoying a day at the beach.

Bring your kayaks or canoe to explore O'neal Lake. Access to this small wilderness lake is only a mile from the cabin. There are no homes on this lake, just an abundance of wildlife including bald eagles, osprey, loons, hawks & more.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We hope to see you soon. Thank you!

Quiet, Private, Clean. Everything you could want!

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful place. Clean, cozy and quiet cabin tucked away in the woods. Can't wait to go back!

We saw bald eagles in the trees & a family of deer came right up to the back deck. At night the stars were larger than life up there. It was like we could reach out & touch them!

Thank you Mike for sharing your jewel with us.

The Ideal Spot

  • 5 of 5

This location was in the perfect spot! Equipped with everything you need. Peaceful surroundings, great size for a cabin in the woods, and not too far from attractions. We’ll definitely be coming back. Also the welcome note, beer and chips were a nice welcoming touch.

Recent Cabin Stay

  • 5 of 5

What a nice little private get away! The cabin was a wonderful place to stay. It was secluded and quiet. The location back in the woods was relaxing to the eyes and mind! It was easy to get to, and the cabin was very well maintained. All the amenities that one would need plus more. It is the perfect place to go to relax after a busy day of enjoying the nearby activities. Would definitely stay again. Love the place and the peace & quiet that comes with it!

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time my wife and I have stayed at this cabin. It is a great location far enough away from everything, which makes the vacation stay even better as you can forget about everything and just have a great time. The cabin is clean and cozy. The hiking trail into Wilderness Park less than a mile from the cabin is awesome (trailhead is right at the O'neal lake dam). The dam was being repaired last year, so it was great being able to explore that trail this time.

Great sunsets and hiking on the lake Michigan sandy beach just down the road from the cabin. We'll be back for sure, thank you!

Lovely cabin for our sisters Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My sisters and I do a yearly getaway - we've been all over, trying to find the right fit and we think this cabin is it! Very clean, comfortable and private, this cabin was just perfect. We brought kayaks and a canoe to explore the nearby lake. We saw bald & golden eagles and lots of other wildlife. The beds were comfortable and the kitchen has anything we needed.

The outdoor fire pit was perfect for evening beverages under the stars, and we LOVED warming up in the toasty sauna. It was just what we were looking for.

Making plans for years to come!
