About Deb Grant

The 'small city, big town' aspect of Portland is what drew us to Portland 25 years ago. I'm a Montana girl who loves the vibrancy of an urban atmosphere, and the culture of both countryside and town. My husband Chuck and I have partnered on many projects through the years. He currently lives on site, and I live a mile away. We enjoy working together and have put a lot of love into the Portland Belmont House. We now enjoy sharing it with others.

Why Deb Grant chose Sunnyside

We bought this property because of its location, bones and vibes! 128 years of stories to tell. A diamond in the rough with unique character and hidden elegance made it a place worth putting our heart and soul into renovating. The rustic concrete counter tops and restored original cabinet (found on the back porch) balance out the vibrant splashes of color and high end appliances of the kitchen. Solar panels, stagger studded walls, and ample insulation look to the future while the 8' wood pocket doors, original fir floors, and intricately carved wood work reveal the past. All new electric and plumbing, and sound absorption channels between floors, help remove the unnecessary aggravations of the past to better enjoy the beauty of the space.

Portland Belmont House provides a quiet, comfortable home stay within a vibrant, fascinating part of Portland. We are 3 blocks from the famous Sunflower Intersection at SE 33rd and Yamhill, a uniquely Portland part of Portland. The house charms people. The great yard, patio, barbecue, (and fire pit too!) make a person feel out in the countryside, yet, only a block and a half away are the shops, world class, affordable restaurants, gourmet grocery stores, food carts galore. Public transportation is a stone's throw away. Drive down the street and you are in downtown Portland in 4 minutes. Everything you need right out your door.

  • The bathroom has the original claw foot tub. It has not been refinished but is clean and works well. It is a simple bathroom with a great view. Good light, and a good fan.

  • Both bedrooms have new queen mattresses. We get many compliments on our mattresses! Main bedroom is in the back of the house mostly away from street noise. The smaller bedroom is in the middle and gets some street noise when the window is open. A fifth guest can use a pull down bed.

Upper flat on Belmont

This is a very nice upper flat on Belmont near 30th, which is convenient to many neighborhoods, including downtown, Portland. It was clean and comfortable. The neighborhood is very walkable and is very close to Hawthorne. Parking is free, easy and convenient and for those without a car, the #10 Belmont bus runs quite frequently. The stairs to the upper floor are steep and narrow (this is a Victorian building), so it may not be the best place for those with mobility issues.

A home away from home with character

If you're looking to explore new neighbors and easy walking distance to cool shops and public transportation, then the Belmont house is for you. Plus, it's the entire upper floor of a 100+ year old Victorian – lots of character and charm. The two bedrooms, plus the fold out Murphy bed in the front room meant everyone in our three-person group had ample space to spread out. All the beds were very comfortable. Between the TV, books, board games and wifi there are a lot of things to do if you just want to stay in too. There's even access to a downstairs washer and dryer which was very convenient. Although Belmont street is busier in the day, we never have an issue with noise.

We did have a rental car, but street parking was more than adequate. And if you're without a car the #15 bus stop is just down the street so downtown Portland is just a short trip away. We could of easily gotten around just by taking public transportation. There's also many stores, (including a Fred Meyer) coffee shops and restaurants within walking distance.

Comfortable, clean, a good location and everything you need for a short trip to a wonderful city.

Lovely period property, great location for Belmont and Hawthorne

3 of us stayed for 3 nights in early October. Deb was welcoming and accommodating and gave us some helpful recommendations for local restaurants. The place was clean and well supplied. Although the house is 130 years old it is in great condition and very comfortable. The shops, bars and restaurants of Belmont are minutes away on foot. This is a great location if you want to stay in the Belmont Hawthorne area. The 15 bus which stops 2 mins away is frequent and takes about 30 mins to get Downtown. For us: best local bar Circa 33, best restaurant, Accanto, best microbrewry, Rogue. We also enjoyed 2 hour cycle tour of Downtown. In summary a great place to stay in a great city.

Fantastic spot!

Everything was great, the location, the house, responsiveness from the host. The 3 sleeping spaces gave us plenty of room as a group of 5 to spread out and the kitchen and deck were perfect spots to wind down.

I'd highly recommend this place.
