Overview

About the property

Spacious and loaded with Gold Country charm, this Barn is perfect for family

This charming old barn was recently updated and is now a very comfortable space for a family of 4, or anyone looking for a secluded environment only 2 blocks from Nevada City’s downtown. Located on a wooded full-acre, the barn features new stainless steel appliances; a large refrigerator and 4-burner gas stove, dishwasher, and new cabinetry and countertops. The flooring was recently updated, and the bathroom has a large stone-shower stall with glass doors and designer hardware. All new cookware, Restoration Hardware’s 600-threadcount bedding and towels, new flat-screen TV with Direct TV, a wood-burning stove/fireplace, and a large hot tub. The barn is a two-room suite and features a large bedroom with a new queen-size Beautyrest mattress bed, and also a large comfortable queen-sized pullout couch in living room. There is also a large parking area onsite, very important as it’s nearly impossible to park in-town during all of Nevada City’s wildly popular events.

About Mollie Poe

We are a San Francisco family who fell in love with Nevada City at first sight when dropping our oldest daughter to sleepaway camp on the Yuba River in July of 2013. We stumbled upon 534 Spring Street that weekend, with it's proximity being only a block behind Nevada City's Broad Street commercial district, and 6 miles from the unbelievably beautiful Yuba River, and we knew that this was somewhere we wanted to retreat from our busy city life in San Francisco.

Mollie Poe purchased this barn in 2013

Why Mollie Poe chose Nevada City

The charm of this property is unparalleled. There is a real sense of privacy and seclusion as it's located on a full-acre with fruit and nut bearing trees, vast landscape and an incredible variety of trees and plant life....yet it's only a 5 minute walk to all of the city's awesome cafes and restaurants, theaters, nightlife, hikes, bike trails, and more. We love it!

What makes this barn unique

Our entire property consists of a spacious 3-bedroom home with an additional 2-room in-law, a separate garden studio on the side of the house, and also a large 2-room barn on the rear of the lot. All 4 'compartments' of the property have separate entrances and are very different spaces, yet all updated with new flooring, Restoration Hardware linens, towels and cutlery. All new Beautyrest mattresses throughout the property in all bedrooms, and plush down and down-alternative pillows. Comfort abounds in every element of the property. We redesigned the home, barn, in-law, and garden-studio by blending the modern updates of today's style of living with an influx of locally sourced antiques and accessories, maintaining a regard for the property's eclectic and historical 'cabin-like' past, having been built in 1851 by two Irish brothers who 'struck it rich' in the early days of the 1849 Gold Rush.

Wonderfully Cozy in Ideal Location!

  • 5 of 5

My best friend and I spent 3 perfect nights here! The barn (with a cabin vibe) is so close to town that once we arrived we didn't get back in the car until it was time to leave which was exactly what we needed! The town is 2 blocks away and is one of the sweetest and friendliest towns I have ever spent time in. The barn sits on a beautiful property with very well kept grounds and feels like you are nestled in the woods while (like I said) still being so close to town. The barn itself was super cute with a nice updated kitchen. The linens and towels were top notch too! The hot tub worked perfectly and felt very clean. The owner was very communicative, helpful and accommodating! I would highly recommend staying here and definitely plan to return myself!

WOW! Great place...great time in Nevada City

  • 5 of 5

We had a great vacation at your place...thanks so much! Our 2 goldens loved the big fenced grassy yard to play in! I also appreciate you setting up the extension cord to let us charge the Bolt - it worked out great. Even in the heatwave, we were able to explore so much of downtown (thanks for the wine tasting suggestions!), hike lots of trails and check out some amazing swimming holes!

In fact...we enjoyed our stay so mcuh, we made an offer on a house and are in escrow to close in about a month and will be part time residents there...so the visit turned out to be quite productive too!

Thanks again Mollie!

Comfort and tranquility right downtown

  • 4 of 5

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at this spot, entertained small group outdoors and in, found everything comfy, well appointed, and aesthetically most pleasing. It was a great downtown base for our mini family reunion. Fold out sofa bed in living area reportedly quite comfy, hot tub most appreciated., beautful riverstone studded shower, high ceilings in main living area and windows giving views of forest and garden. Loved secluded feeling although right downtown. Cooked in the roomy kitchen, did Tai Chi on the lawn, went for walks/runs on nearby Deer Creek Tribute Trail. Owner was responsive to our email inquiries. Would love to return.

Wonderful Nevada City Retreat!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at the Barn was amazing. The property is so special! Everything was perfect. The location is as perfect as described. Walk to downtown (which is so cute!) and still feel nestled in the woods while back at the property. Everything from the linens to the mattress were top notch. The ground on the property are gorgeous with room for kids to play and parents to relax. We are absolutely planning another trip back here!

Unlike many of the other properties in the area, we are located only 2 blocks from Nevada City's downtown district. A beautiful 5-minute stroll takes you to all of this wonderful town's amenities and attractions.

Nevada City, located in the heart of Gold Country, is known to be amongst the most interesting and charming of California’s Gold Rush towns. The entire town is a national historic landmark where guests enjoy great restaurants, unparalleled nightlife and entertainment, and a variety of fine shops, boutiques, galleries and museums, all flavored with old-fashioned Nevada city hospitality.

This historical town is located only a few miles from the Empire Mine State Park and also the Nevada County Fairgrounds, host to the Nevada County Fair, annual Celtic and Bluegrass festivals and many other hugely popular festivals and events.

Nevada City is a cultural center hosting everything from Victorian Christmas to the Wild and Scenic File Festival, and a number of holiday parades and festivities weekly throughout the entire year, making it an ever popular destination for both local Northern California / Bay Area and international tourists. Anyone interested is urged to visit the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce's website. http://www.nevadacitychamber.com/.

Additionally, the historical Minor's Foundry Cultural Center and several historical in-town theaters and production groups are only a two-block walk from our property making this the perfect place to stay for someone visiting one Nevada City's nightly concerts or theatrical productions.

Furthermore, all of Broad Street’s parades, weekly Summer Art Walks, Vistorian Christmas celebrations, Mardi Gras and many more throughout the year take place just a block from our property.

Nestled in the serenity of a private feeling site, our day typically starts with a 5 minute walk to the famous Curly Wolf Cafe or several other popular breakfast spots such as Ike's Quarter Cafe or South Pine. We then spend the afternoons strolling around downtown's many antique and vintage shops, having an afternoon cocktail at the old National Hotel, or a beer at Three Forks Brewery, and then a great dinner at Friar Tuck's, Matteo's Public, Sopa Thia, Bistro 221 or one of many others.

Additionally, a quick trip into Grass Valley is only a few miles away. Our property is also located just a few blocks from the entry point of the Tribute Trail, a fantastic hike along Deer Creek with it's own newly completed suspension bridge, creating a loop over the Creek and back into town!

Also, we are just 6 miles from several entry points of the breathtaking Yuba River; Bridgeport, Hoyt's Crossing, Edwards Crossing, Purdon, and many other entry points within the Tahoe National Forrest.

The mountain biking in this area is world class, in fact Nevada city host to the annual Nevada City Bicycle Classic held on Fathers Day weekend, it's one of the premiere sporting events in the Sierra foothills, the largest and oldest bike race on the West Coast, and the second-oldest race in the nation.

Celebrate summer Nevada City style at the Farmer’s Market enjoying live music, local farmers, vendors, and artists, freshly baked treats and more. Shop for healthy food, locally grown with care and pride. Come, feel the energy and live the goodness!
