About Virginia Platt

Although I currently live in Houston, Marfa will always be called 'home'. I attended elementary and junior high school in Marfa. Our family took frequent trips to Big Bend, Presidio and Ojinaga. On several occasions, we viewed the lights, visited the Mc Donald Observatory and Indian Lodge. I have many happy memories of Marfa, especially the friendly people and the delicious Mexican food.

Virginia Platt purchased this house in 1973

Why Virginia Platt chose Marfa

Mi Casita(my tiny home) has been in my family since 1973 and has served as a home for several tenants during the past 40 years. A couple of years ago, I decided to remodel it and use it as a vacation home for family and friends. I travel from Houston three or four times during the year to enjoy the beautiful weather Marfa offers and catch up with old friends.

What makes this house unique

The uniqueness about this property is that the inside buildout was performed by three women, my sister-a USDA inspector, my friend-a school teacher and me-a banker. Before each phase, we sat around and watched You Tube videos. I have a true appreciation for contractors and carpenters after this project. I am in love with Mi Casita.

As my guests, I hope that you feel that this is your home also.

Great location

Great location right across from the food shark! The bikes were an added plus but one had a flat so we mostly walked.

Nice small house to stay in while visiting Marfa and West Texas

  • 4 of 5

Two of us stayed for a few nights over Thanksgiving. Overall, it's a nice little 1-bedroom house to stay in. The bedroom and bath are small, but the bed is very comfortable, and the decent sized shower had ample hot water. The kitchen area is also small, but workable. We had prepped most of our big meal at home and brought it with us. The stove and fridge are full size, but there's no dishwasher. Hand washing dishes was no problem, though. I'm glad we had great weather while visiting, as we were able to utilize the great back yard. We used the small charcoal grill for cooking some of our big meal, and ate at the larger table on the back patio. It's also a great place to watch the trains as they pass by a few times a day just on the other side of the back fence. The casita is located in a quiet neighborhood fairly close to Marfa's main street, galleries and other prime attractions. It's an easy to walk to the nearby convenience store and a few restaurants. It is a small town after all.
