About the property

DONATI TOWER

This 13th century tower belonged to the very powerful Donati family. By the second half of the sixteenth century, the Donati family’s fortune had faded and the tower was incorporated into the mansion of the Albizi, a Florentine family of merchants and bankers who were long-standing rivals of the Medici. In the eighteenth century the mansion passed to the Tassinari family, and finally in 1929 to the family of the current owners.

Our 3 apartments in Donati Tower:

1 - THE DONATI TOWER'S TERRACE with large private terrace, 2 BR for sleeps 4, on the 5th floor with elevator, AC, wi-fi - photos from 1 to 25

2 - THE DONATI TOWER LOGGIA with private covered loggia, 1 BR + 1 sofa bed, sleeps 2-3, on the 5th floor with elevator, AC, wi-fi - photos 26 to 38

3 - THE SPHINX OF THE SECRET GARDEN studio with private access to the garden, sleeps 2, on the ground floor, AC, wi-fi - photos from 39 to 46

Our 3 apartments, as well as the entire Palace and the Tower, are of great historical interest and bound by the Superintendent of artistic and architectural of the Ministry of Culture. It is therefore the ideal place to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of the golden age of Florence

In a central and ancient street, the Donati Tower Apartments are located in an ideal position to reach on foot the most important sights and museums of Florence: among others, the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello Museum, the Duomo with Giotto's Bell Tower, the Medici Chapels in San Lorenzo, the Accademia Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, as well as Palazzo Pitti, the church of Santo Spirito and the Boboli Gardens across the River Arno.

Being the owner a librarian by profession, he is of course obliged to suggest a visit or two to the nearby municipal library of the Oblate, in via dell'Oriolo, achieved in a spectacular architectural environment, with a large terrace and bar practically under the Brunelleschi’s Dome of the Duomo, internet, reading rooms, international magazines, children's room.

Bakery, greengrocer, butcher, newsagent, supermarket and pharmacy are a short step from the apartment, as well as the typical market of Sant'Ambrogio where to find all the Tuscan food specialties, and taverns and restaurants, with great traditional Tuscan cuisine.

And eventually shopping in the boutiques of the most famous Italian and foreign designers on the nearby via Calzaiuoli, via Roma, via Tornabuoni, via della Vigna Nuova.

Perfect location, amazing views, clean beautiful, modern apartment and wonderful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We could not imagine a better place for our family of 4 to have spent 3 days in Florence. The location of this apartment is amazing. We were never more than a 15 minute walk from any of the major sites. The apartment building is incredibly clean and modern. And the views.....are incredible. There is a nice sized terrace to sit and have a glass of wine while you stare out Florence’s most impressive sites. It really is amazing. All this and run by two of the nicest people. Not only were they great to work with from a rental standpoint, but they went out of their way for us in many ways, including having Large Chocoate Easter Eggs for the kids on Easter Sunday, helping with luggage, cabs and general directions and recommendations in the city. They were helpful in all ways and such a delight to talk to. My only reservation about giving this review is that it may get too popular and will be booked next time we need a place to stay in the city. You can’t go wrong staying here. Grazie Mile Antonella and Stefano!!

Owner's Response: Dear Kerry, what a sweet emotion is to read such lovely words we hope to be worth of. We try to do our best, and that's easy when we meet guests like you, quiet, and smiling and interested, both parents and children! And don't worry for your next trip to Florence: there will always be a place for your delightful family. With our very best regards. Antonella e Stefano

Amazing Terrace in Florence

  • 5 of 5

Thank you Antonella & Stefano! This apartment was lovely and well-suited for a comfortable stay. We were welcomed warmly and provided assistance booking a taxi for our early morning departure. The welcome gift of strawberries, chocolates and prosecco was so nice. We appreciated excellent communication before our visit and availability of our hosts during our time in Florence. The location of the apartment is ideal for visiting all areas of the city by foot, very central and located in a beautiful historic area (even the building itself is historic!). However, it should be noted that being so central there was a great deal of noise coming from what sounded like a disco club nearby beginning around midnight that kept us from sleeping well for hours in to the early morning. This of course is not under control of the owners, but we were surprised at this since other reviews we read make no mention. We stayed Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Maybe would having a fan in the bedrooms to help cancel some of the noise would be helpful ?

Absolutely everything else about this apartment was perfect and so very nice. Antonella and Stefano are delightful. We would welcome the opportunity to stay here again in the future.

Comfortable apartment with helpful hosts and gorgeous views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for three nights in the 5th floor apartment with our two kids, and we recommend it highly, particularly for a family. Although the building is a historic one, the apartment has been renovated and is both clean and pleasantly furnished, with two large bedrooms (one with a queen-sized bed, one with two twins), a well-appointed kitchen, a washing machine (though no dryer), and a modern bathroom, all arranged around a central living room/foyer. If the apartment had no views at all, it would still be a great place to stay in central Florence. But, oh, the views. The apartment has a private patio overlooking the Basilica of Santa Croce, Oltrarno, and the Duomo - the perfect place to sit and drink wine, as the owners, Antonella and Stefano, pointed out, even supplying the first bottle of wine! It's almost a shame there is so much to see within just a short walk. Both bedrooms and the bathroom share the same view towards Santa Croce and Oltrarno.

Antonella and Stefano are friendly and helpful. They were very responsive by email in advance, and then kindly let us check in early (noon), as the apartment was available. They met us at check-in, showing us around the apartment and offering helpful suggestions (in good English). And they again met us at check-out, promptly refunding the damage deposit and offering to call a taxi.

I would love to come stay here again!

Owner's Response: Dear David, many thanks for your lovely words, for your exact description of the apartment and the terrace, for your too kind compliments about our "good" English. It's true: the center of Florence has an almost suffocating density of beauty! Many greetings, of course, to Augusta, James and Thomas too. We really hope to meet you again! Antonella e Stefano

wonderful spot

  • 5 of 5

Antonella and Stephano were wonderful hosts. They met us and let us drop off our luggage early. The place was beautiful and well equipped. The balcony had amazing views. The location was perfect and walking distance to most places we needed to go. Antonella and Stephano told us about local restaurants and things to do and offered to make arrangements for our return trip. We walked easily to the train station. What a great trip.
