About the property

DONATI TOWER

This 13th century tower belonged to the very powerful Donati family. By the second half of the sixteenth century, the Donati family’s fortune had faded and the tower was incorporated into the mansion of the Albizi, a Florentine family of merchants and bankers who were long-standing rivals of the Medici. In the eighteenth century the mansion passed to the Tassinari family, and finally in 1929 to the family of the current owners.

The 4 apartments in the Palazzo and Donati Tower:

1 - "THE DONATI TOWER'S TERRACE Apartment" for 4 people, 5th floor w/Lift access, AC, wi-fi

2 - "THE DONATI TOWER'S LOGGIA" Apartment" for 3 people, 5th floor w/Lift access, AC, wi-fi

3 - "THE SPHINX OF THE SECRET GARDEN Studio" for 2 people on the ground floor, AC, wi-fi

4 - “THE LITTLE HOLE OF THE WINE Studio" on the ground floor; for 2 people, bedroom on the loft, 1 bathroom with walk-in shower, wi-fi

The 4 apartments, as well as the entire Palace and the Tower, are of great historical interest and bound by the Superintendent of artistic and architectural of the Ministry of Culture. It is therefore the ideal place to immerse yourself in the history and beauty of the golden age of Florence

In a central and ancient street, the Donati Tower Apartments are located in an ideal position to reach on foot the most important sights and museums of Florence: among others, the Basilica of Santa Croce, Palazzo Vecchio in Piazza della Signoria, the Uffizi Gallery, the Bargello Museum, the Duomo with Giotto's Bell Tower, the Medici Chapels in San Lorenzo, the Accademia Gallery, Ponte Vecchio, as well as Palazzo Pitti, the church of Santo Spirito and the Boboli Gardens across the River Arno.

Being the owner a librarian by profession, he is of course obliged to suggest a visit or two to the nearby municipal library of the Oblate, in via dell'Oriolo, achieved in a spectacular architectural environment, with a large terrace and bar practically under the Brunelleschi’s Dome of the Duomo, internet, reading rooms, international magazines, children's room.

Bakery, greengrocer, butcher, newsagent, supermarket and pharmacy are a short step from the apartment, as well as the typical market of Sant'Ambrogio where to find all the Tuscan food specialties, and taverns and restaurants, with great traditional Tuscan cuisine.

And eventually shopping in the boutiques of the most famous Italian and foreign designers on the nearby via Calzaiuoli, via Roma, via Tornabuoni, via della Vigna Nuova.

About Antonella

We are a family with a teenage daughter. We love Florence and Tuscany, but also the world! :)

Why Antonella chose Historic Center

I wanted to share this beautiful apartment and its stunning views with visitors to this magical city.

What makes this apartment unique

In a historic building of the 13th-16th centuries, protected by the Ministry for Cultural Heritage, two apartments of different beauty, one spectacular, 'The Terrace of the Donati Tower', and one functional, 'The little hole of the wine', two different ways to live a unique experience in Florence.

Lovely room adjacent to a large garden. Great neighborhood.

  • 5 of 5

I eas pleasantly surprised when I arrived to discover that the room had 2 pairs of French doors onto the garden, as that had not been shown in the photos. The garden was almost entirely private with a small table and seating adjacent to the room. Truly a remarkable find in the middle of Florence's pedestrian centro!

Much enjoyed the neighborhood. Central but a couple of blocks away from the big crowds of tourists. Antonella was helpful, and her restaurant recommendations were excellent - a nearby farm to table restaurant, a fish restaurant which owns their own fishing boats, etc. - up to the critical California palate.

The only negative was that I did not anticipate having to pay cash for the room. The deposit was made via Paypal, but the check-in required cash. It was, in ither respects, clean, comfortable, and very pleasant.

Perfect for us, quiet, lovely retreat from the busy and lively city.

  • 5 of 5

Antonella and Stefano were just wonderful, very welcoming and helpful. They guided us to their favorite spots for dining, walking and cultural points of interest. This place provided easy access to everything we wanted to do and see on foot. We were there for a week and loved it, the enclosed garden dedicated to the studio apt opened up a very large, quiet and green space including outdoor shelter from any rain and extreme sun. Thank you, Antonella and Stefano!

It was a truly lovely place within easy walking distance of EVERYTHING!

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The garden is a delight - a beautiful oasis in the city. The bed was very comfortable with a deliciously warm duvet - we were there in early April. Antonella and Stefano greeted us with a bottle of wine and a plate of fresh strawberries and chocolates - all of which we enjoyed in the garden! The apartment was close to everything we wanted to see and do and within easy walking distance. It really made us feel instantly at home and a part of the city. Lovely lavender shampoo and toiletries provided along with everything you might need. Antonella even arranged for a 4 a.m. taxi to take us to the airport for a ridiculously early flight. We'd return in a heartbeat! Grazie mille.

Terrific!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful little gem, the Sphinx! Perfect for two. We loved our stay in the heart of Florence - the pedestrian area. Easy walking distance to the Duomo, and to great restaurants. Artfully decorated and right in the mix of Florence. We felt like local Florentines when we walked out the front door. Comfortable bed and accommodations. Basic butler kitchen and charming place to stay. (As noted- not a kitchen to practice your new Italian cooking skills.) We enjoyed the private sculpture garden patio for evening Aperol spritz and wine as well as lunch. The wifi: very secure, thank you. Glad to have the AC as we had a few days of humid weather. There is a delicious and friendly local pastry/coffee shop just 50 steps from the front door we patronized almost daily.

Antonella and Stefano are exceptional hosts. They met with us and gave us great suggestions of places to see and places to eat as well as a personal handout of their suggestions, i.e. their favorite walks, out of the way local places which we really liked. They were eager and quick to help with a simple Italian coffee maker and diffuser for the new induction stove. Thank you being so personable and for making our visit to Florence so memorable! Grazie millie!

We enjoyed our 5 night stay and would recommend it to friends and family.

  • 5 of 5

The space was clean and comfortable for 2 people. We so enjoyed having coffee and wine in the private garden. Loved the location. Very walkable to all major attractions and train station yet away from the large crowds. Close to shopping and good restaurants. Antonella and Stefano were so helpful in providing directions and recommending restaurants and attractions. We would not hesitate to book this unit again should we return to Florence.

had a lovely stay hosts very welcoming and gave us lots of handy tips for places to see and eat. apartment well appointed and in great spot. the private garden was surprisingly tranquil given such a central location. plenty choice of places to eat at different prices depending upon your budget and preferences. Florence busy and would recommend booking museum tickets for more popular places.
