Serene Secluded Riverfront Cottage

Bedrooms 2
Space 111 m²
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 4 nights

About the property

River frontage with dock and private wooded 3 acres on the Toccoa River.

Merry Rose Cottage, on the banks of the Toccoa River, is accessible by a gravel country road, and surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of nature. This simple country cottage, with its lovely decor and relaxed atmosphere, has a whimsical feel; even the smallest details have been attended to. There is a picnic area and a dock overlooking the River with a romantic seating area that would be perfect for an intimate dinner for two. Guests will feel as though they have simply borrowed the weekend country house of an old friend instead of renting just another mountain vacation home. Whether you decide to spend time relaxing in the hot tub located in the area off the master bedroom, or snuggled up on the sofa beside the wood burning fireplace, you are sure to find your perfect spot in this charming cottage on the River. The Cottage has two private master bedrooms with their own bathroom and river view. The King Master suite has a totally renovated master bath and everything is NEW! In the bedroom there is a king bed w/skylights and it opens on to large deck with a recessed hot tub. Kitchen is nicely stocked with dishwasher and microwave, and there is a gas grill on the deck for outdoor grilling. Amenities include WiFi, Dish Network (over 150 channels to choose from) with 43" Samsung HD Smart TV with DVR in the living room (effective in December 2016), and 32" RCA flat screen television also with DVR in King Master bedroom. If you appreciate a good book there is your choice of great books for riverside reading! Nearby attractions include hiking the beautiful trails of North Georgia, biking, antique shopping, white water rafting, horseback riding, scenic railroad in Blue Ridge and the famous Swan Drive-In.

Of course we include fine linens and large fluffy towels and robes. An initial supply of guest soaps, toilet paper, dishwasher detergent, paper towels and trash bags will also be provided. For colder seasons firewood is provided for Merry Rose.

About Ann Merry

I was born in Atlanta as was most of my family and enjoyed the 'big city' for many years but North Georgia and its rivers and mountains were always an important part of my childhood and youth as my family loved rivers, canoeing and kayaking. We spent much time in the mountains and the rivers. I guess that's why I have finally moved here to North Georgia to live and have enjoyed this area for many years. That's me and Eva in the picture at the River! I think she's going to be a natural paddler and she already loves the water!

Ann Merry purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Ann Merry chose North Georgia Mountains

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in 1980 my husband and I decided to take a drive to the North Georgia mountains and ended up having a lovely picnic on the banks of the Toccoa River. We fell in love with the area and the next week went back and bought the land where we had our lovely picnic that afternoon. We camped on the property for many years and my family has had, and continue to have, many wonderful memories in this amazing place. In 1997 Merry Rose Cottage was built. I named her Merry Rose after my dear mother Mary Rose.

What makes this cottage unique

Merry Rose Cottage is a magical place that will always be part of me and my family and we are pleased that others are enjoying it now as well. There are so many things to do all around the cottage; of course the River is the best part to me but there are so many activities close by even though you feel totally away from everything when you're at the cottage. We are also located within an easy drive to many wonderful wineries and wine tasting venues that you will love. There's hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, zip lining, lake activities on Lake Blue Ridge, golf, tennis; just about everything!

And when you get back to the Cottage you can just relax and enjoy a great meal and/or go jump in the river or the hot tub....or both!!

Just what we needed!!

  • 5 of 5

We decided to go at the last minute on this trip. We were so excited to be on the river. We have gone to Blue Ridge a lot but have always stayed in the mountains. This was a new experience and very relaxing. We spent all of our time in the jacuzzi or on the porch just enjoying the scenery. We did cook every night. The kitchen had everything you could need. Thank you Ann for sharing your river cottage with us. Traci and Bruce.

Peaceful, beautiful and serene

  • 5 of 5

Take one darling cottage, add three lush acres, and put them beside a cool mountain river. There you have Merry Rose Cottage. Sit on the deck for your morning coffee then walk 30 feet to your dock and watch geese and the occasional rafter drift by on the river. Perfection.

Zen river location with cozy house in secluded location

  • 5 of 5

Ann was a fabulous host and made our stay the best ever. The river is beautiful and relaxing (Canadian geese are floating by and fish are jumping). The house is cozy but spacious enough for 2 couples. Go kayaking down the river to Rolling Thunder tubing company and get a ride back. Great farmers market on Sat am in Blairsville! And check out Yoga and Wellness of Blue Ridge (ask for Amanda). Not only do they offer wonderful classes and massages, but next door you enter a paradise of herbs, teas, infused oils and more. Not to mention their delicious local farmers' produce!

And not to forget: every Thursday from 6-8pm listen to the local musical talent during "Picking in the Park" at Horse Show Bent Park in McCaysville!

This is a great location for a get-away, for a summer, for a week of hiking and relaxing.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your generous review! It looks like you and Michael really took advantage of all the wonders of Blue Ridge and the River. A few of those places I haven't been to in a long time and you have inspired me to check them out again myself! Everything is changing in such a good way in town and all around really. Actually, I'm ashamed to say I have not been to the Blairsville Farmer's Market in years and it is wonderful! All those places are definitely worth visiting again! Thank you again Christina. It was a pleasure to have you visit and I look forward to your return next year!

Lovely cottage in private setting

  • 5 of 5

We spend 4 nights in this lovely cottage. We enjoyed the peaceful place right on the river.

Nature pure !

The home was very well equipped, we appreciated especially the well stocked kitchen.

All essential were there to prepare breakfast or dinner. I actually did not think about bringing little items like salt, pepper or cooking oil. Thank god, Mrs. Merry is so thoughtful to supply these things. She is a very thoughtful host and was very concerned about our well being in her cottage.

The road was a little challenging after strong thunderstorms, but with patience the road was manageable.

We can highly recommend this home.

Thanks for a relaxing vacation !

Owner's Response: Thank you Sigrid for your very nice review for Merry Rose! I enjoyed hearing from you and would be pleased to have you return again and become a favorite and return guest. The road seems to be improving little by little and it's just a matter of time when it will be complete we hope!!! I am always working on different ways to improve the cottage but the road has been a challenge and I'm pleased with the way it is turning around. Come back soon and thanks again for your kind words. ann

Peaceful Retreat

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this place, everything about it. The property itself was very private, remote even, and opened to a beautiful stretch of the Toccoa River. We spent hours on the river dock reading and watching people float by in kayaks and tubes on their way to a lovely park down river. The house was beautiful and well equipped with everything we needed. It had a large deck

which we used whenever we could drag ourselves up from the river. The whole experience was peaceful and relaxing.

Ann was available but unobtrusive, and provided water toys large and small. We hope to get back there soon.

The cottage is located on the banks of The Toccoa River, which, for you fishermen, the trout fishing is the greatest! Lots of beautiful Rainbows and Browns have been caught right there in our backyard!

And, for you paddlers, we have whitewater for everyone! Class II to Class IV Rivers all abound! Of course the Toccoa is gentle enough (Class II) for a tranquil paddle or float down to Horseshoe Bend Park or if you want something a tad more challenging you can put in at Curtis Switch a few miles upstream and paddle or tube down to the Cottage and have lunch or dinner before you go into town or just settle down for a lovely evening cooking and enjoying a pleasant relaxing evening together on the River. However, if you are in the mood to go out, we have fantastic new and established restaurants a short 20 minutes away in Blue Ridge. Also, new to Blue Ridge, there is the new Blue Ridge Mountain Food Tours that will give you a taste of some of the best places to eat found in Blue Ridge. If you love eating, exploring & having fun, these culinary tours offer you the flavorful experience you may be looking for!
