Serene Secluded Riverfront Cottage

Bedrooms 2
Space 111 m²
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

River frontage with dock and private wooded 3 acres on the Toccoa River.

Merry Rose Cottage, on the banks of the Toccoa River, is accessible by a gravel country road, and surrounded by lush vegetation and the sounds of nature. This simple country cottage, with its lovely decor and relaxed atmosphere, has a whimsical feel; even the smallest details have been attended to. There is a picnic area and a dock overlooking the River with a romantic seating area that would be perfect for an intimate dinner for two. Guests will feel as though they have simply borrowed the weekend country house of an old friend instead of renting just another mountain vacation home. Whether you decide to spend time relaxing in the hot tub located in the area off the master bedroom, or snuggled up on the sofa beside the wood burning fireplace, you are sure to find your perfect spot in this charming cottage on the River. The Cottage has two private master bedrooms with their own bathroom and river view. The King Master suite has a totally renovated master bath and everything is NEW! In the bedroom there is a king bed w/skylights and it opens on to large deck with a recessed hot tub. Kitchen is nicely stocked with dishwasher and microwave, and there is a gas grill on the deck for outdoor grilling. Amenities include WiFi, Dish Network (over 150 channels to choose from) with 43" Samsung HD Smart TV with DVR in the living room (effective in December 2016), and 32" RCA flat screen television also with DVR in King Master bedroom. If you appreciate a good book there is your choice of great books for riverside reading! Nearby attractions include hiking the beautiful trails of North Georgia, biking, antique shopping, white water rafting, horseback riding, scenic railroad in Blue Ridge and the famous Swan Drive-In.

Of course we include fine linens and large fluffy towels and robes. An initial supply of guest soaps, toilet paper, dishwasher detergent, paper towels and trash bags will also be provided. For colder seasons firewood is provided for Merry Rose.

About Ann Merry

I was born in Atlanta as was most of my family and enjoyed the 'big city' for many years but North Georgia and its rivers and mountains were always an important part of my childhood and youth as my family loved rivers, canoeing and kayaking. We spent much time in the mountains and the rivers. I guess that's why I have finally moved here to North Georgia to live and have enjoyed this area for many years. That's me and Eva in the picture at the River! I think she's going to be a natural paddler and she already loves the water!

Ann Merry purchased this cottage in 1998

Why Ann Merry chose Mineral Bluff

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon in 1980 my husband and I decided to take a drive to the North Georgia mountains and ended up having a lovely picnic on the banks of the Toccoa River. We fell in love with the area and the next week went back and bought the land where we had our lovely picnic that afternoon. We camped on the property for many years and my family has had, and continue to have, many wonderful memories in this amazing place. In 1997 Merry Rose Cottage was built. I named her Merry Rose after my dear mother Mary Rose.

What makes this cottage unique

Merry Rose Cottage is a magical place that will always be part of me and my family and we are pleased that others are enjoying it now as well. There are so many things to do all around the cottage; of course the River is the best part to me but there are so many activities close by even though you feel totally away from everything when you're at the cottage. We are also located within an easy drive to many wonderful wineries and wine tasting venues that you will love. There's hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, zip lining, lake activities on Lake Blue Ridge, golf, tennis; just about everything!

Very secluded and private. Definitely a relaxing romantic getaway but, if you want more...there's hiking, whitewater rafting (Ocoee & Nantahala Rivers), horseback riding, zip lines, community theater, special name it we have it and not too far away! And when you get back to the Cottage you can just relax and enjoy a great meal and/or go jump in the river or the hot tub....or both!! There is so much to do in this area. Blue Ridge has become the little town everyone wants to visit. Beautiful shops, restaurants, arts, community theater; just about anything you want to do is available. Check my reviews for details of other events or actitivies my guests have found to be fun!

Love love love!!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fantastic time here!!!!! My boyfriend surprised me with this trip after i finished my finals and it was the most amazing time ever!!!! We’re always looking for dog friendly/secluded getaways and this was exactly that!!!!! Ann is soooo sweet and even let us check in a few hours early because we got hit with the snow! She also had a bunch of firewood set out for us on the front deck which was amazing because a lot of the wood outside was soaked from the rain/snow so there was no way we could dry the wood.. We also LOVED the heated bathroom fan!!!!!!

I almost don’t want to leave such a positive review so we can keep this place to ourselves haha! Another great thing was that we had EVERYTHING we needed and more!!! Stuff you wouldn’t even think to bring on a trip, Ann already had it there!!! She even had a bunch of games!!!!

Her home is absolutely lovely and we will be back for another trip!! Being on the river also made for plenty of relaxing moments with our pup! I’m so so happy with everything! I’m already planning our next trip back!!! Thanks again Ann!!!

PS: we had absolutely zero complaints! Ann has pretty much thought of everything possible!!!! And plus we didn’t run into anyone which was great!!!!

Thanks again for such a lovely stay!!!

Owner's Response: Dear Jane & Ray & Abel, of course, I am speechless! But not quite! Your wonderful note came with such good timing today and was appreciated and I'm so glad you two were so clearly set on getting here before (or after!) the snow. I am thankful you both persevered and didn't let me talk you out of coming. It was probably the prettiest snow I've ever seen here and I can't think of any two people that could have enjoyed it any more than you two (or three) did and I would "love love love" to have you visit Merry Rose again any time. Just let me know and she will be all ready for you. Thank you again for your sweet and thoughtful review. Ann

Stunning location and beautiful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We (husband, myself, 11 year old daughter and 2 energetic dogs) spent an idyllic 3 day pre-Thanksgiving break here-the cottage was perfect for our needs and the location was tranquil and great for our fur-babies. I would definitely recommend! Thank you Ann xxx

We had the most relaxing few days staying at this cozy, serene "cottage" that had everything you could need. It was spotlessly clean, well taken care of, the beds felt like heaven, everything smelled so fresh! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a place where you can leave all your troubles and worries behind. Will definitely book another visit this Spring!!

A beautiful spot, lovely cottage, and thoughtful host

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here five nights in late October '17, and were not disappointed. The GPS easily found it. The last half-mile of gravel road has to be taken slow, but we had no problems in the CR-V. Any car with average clearance should be fine. This is a beautiful and well-appointed cottage where we lacked for nothing. Ann was a wonderful hostess who anticipated everything that we needed. The larger master bedroom/bath is comfortable and spacious. We had 2 bars with our Verizon phones. (There is a land line.) The WiFi isn't the fastest, but it works. The large deck has a nice grill and a particularly inviting sunken hot tub. The Toccoa River rose and fell about 2 feet every day from the Blue Ridge Reservoir which is about 2-2.5 hrs upstream. It was amazing to watch those changes. The Blue Ridge Scenic Railroad chugged by across the river. We found nearby parks that were good spots for our labradoodle to play in the water. River-related activities abound in the area. The nearby towns are all neat places if you're looking for character and life. However, we were quite content to just stay at the cottage to relax and 'recharge the batteries.' This is definitely a contender for a party of 2 to 4 who are looking for a special place.

Owner's Response: Hello Paul, This probably is one of my favorite (if not, most favorite) reviews I have ever received! I guess you could say it was “eloquently informative” and loved the way you put it all together and answered most, if not all, of the questions my future guests may have! Thank you Paul. It was lovely and I would be pleased to have you and your wife revisit any time! Again, thank you for your thoughtful and thorough review. ann

The cottage is located on the banks of The Toccoa River, which, for you fishermen, the trout fishing is the greatest! Lots of beautiful Rainbows and Browns have been caught right there in our backyard!

And, for you paddlers, we have whitewater for everyone! Class II to Class IV Rivers all abound! Of course the Toccoa is gentle enough (Class II) for a tranquil paddle or float down to Horseshoe Bend Park or if you want something a tad more challenging you can put in at Curtis Switch a few miles upstream and paddle or tube down to the Cottage and have lunch or dinner before you go into town or just settle down for a lovely evening cooking and enjoying a pleasant relaxing evening together on the River. However, if you are in the mood to go out, we have fantastic new and established restaurants a short 20 minutes away in Blue Ridge. Also, new to Blue Ridge, there is the new Blue Ridge Mountain Food Tours that will give you a taste of some of the best places to eat found in Blue Ridge. If you love eating, exploring & having fun, these culinary tours offer you the flavorful experience you may be looking for!
