Why Alan & Lori Sanborn chose Eastern Michigan

We recently purchased our dream cottage a few years ahead of schedule. We love the beauty of the area and have felt drawn to the water. Lake Huron's whispering voice and beautiful sunrises are very fulfilling. There's more peace and quiet during the winter, while summertime is full of adventure and fun. We believe the Heights to be the best community within miles.

Our week by the water

  • 4 of 5

It is a beautiful place the view from the front window across the lake is so relaxing, even while sitting in the living room to be able to see out over the water and to watch the sunrise was great. The evening walks through the quaint neighborhood was wonderful.

It is truly Grandma's house. Doesn't have all the conveniences but very homey and friendly. The view is a million dollar View

Great location, awesome easy access to the beach, great communication with owners!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay in 'Grandma's Lake house'. Lori was awesome to deal with and super responsive when we had questions. The house was comfortable, nothing fancy, but we were traveling with kids who were most interested in the beach anyway! Our favorite part was walking just outside the door and down a slight hill to our own private (so it seemed) beach. Our biggest complaint was upstairs and the bedrooms were quite hot during our stay. The single window AC unit downstairs did a nice job on the main living space downstairs but the rooms were all a little toasty. Overall a great visit and we'd stay there again!

Owner's Response: Eileen was a great tenant and I will take her advice and install a window air conditioner for upstairs. We had just put in ceiling fans, but apparently this is not enough. I thank her for bringing my attention to it

Great for a girls' weekend! We had a blast!

The cottage was clean and well-stocked. It had everything we needed, and a beautiful view. Great experience!

Overall a great place

  • 5 of 5

It is very close to the water for easy access. With my large family (7 of us total with only 6 of us there on any given day) there was plenty of space to spread out. There is only one bathroom but we made it work. The owners are very responsive to needs and suggestions.

Michigan's oldest drive-in is located just 20 minutes northwest; movies change weekly. Great family fun...also scenic driving due north will take you to Port Sanilac with its historic museum/village, lighthouses, and an old-fashioned barn theatre (weekly performances)
