About the property

On Lake Superior, Grand view, hear waves, Luxury 3 bedroom & 3 bath, 1570 sq ft

We invite you to come and vacation in our three bedroom, well-appointed and comfortable vacation home located in the desired town home community of Windsong Cottages. It boasts a commanding view of Lake Superior the largest fresh water lake in the world! Our Windsong Cottage is perched on a rocky ridge of the waters edge and pebbled with beautiful trees beneath the deck! Come and unwind as you soak in the soothing sounds of the waves crashing on the rocks right in front of our home.

These two to three unit town homes are enveloped down in a beautiful valley off of Highway 61 at the edge of the charming town of Beaver Bay, MN which is the oldest settlement on the North Shore. As you drive down into the protected valley of the Windsong Cottages, you experience the peaceful community of these town homes, with Lake Superior as the back drop, glistening on a sunny day! You immediately notice these cottages are up-scale, hand crafted homes that are aesthetically landscaped, well maintained and you feel you are in for a nice vacation experience.

Our 1570 square foot vacation home is nestled in the community of lake front Windsong Cottages which boasts some of the best unobstructed views of the Lake. We have a single, narrow pine tree that majestically stands at our decks edge and adorns the breathtaking view of this portion of Lake Superior. Below the deck are various types of trees that stud the shoreline to make the various seasons on the shore magical.

Our vacation home is uniquely furnished with Old Hickory Furniture throughout that has been handcrafted and is typically found in iconic, upscale lodges and resorts since 1899. The quality and rustic comfort are the hallmarks of Old Hickory furniture and makes our vacation home so inviting. Our cottage’s décor has style encompassing many elements of the theme of Lake Superior, its many moods, and the surrounding woods.

It accommodates up to six guests depending on what sleeping arrangements you are looking for. It has three private bedrooms that claim a bathroom for each. Our home showcases a beautifully appointed Master Suite again featuring Old Hickory furniture and north woods lodge décor. The prominent, king size bed highlights this room hosting a supremely comfortable mattress with rich linens. The height of this bed allows you to see the entire panoramic view out the bay windows that encase the complete front of the bedroom. There is nothing better than watching the sunrise or moon rise from your bed! The suite features a Jacuzzi tub at the windows edge for retreating into after a long day on the shore. The suite also includes furnishings such as: dresser with enough drawers to accommodate all your clothes and TV on TV stand. A few steps away and you enter a large bathroom with large closet, and attached toilet and shower room with heated floors.

Our Windsong Cottage accommodates other guests with two additional, nicely appointed bedrooms as well. The second floor Mini-suite features an upscale richly designed queen log bed with matching furniture. It has a large dresser with many drawers and a closet to hang your clothes. It has a roomy full private bath, also with heated tile flooring. With a tub and shower combo. The third bedroom is located next to the front entry on the main level. It’s a cozy private room, with a comfortable Queen sized bed with rich colored lodge theme. It has its own closet for hanging clothes and setting your suit case on a rack. A great feature is the roomy third bathroom that is next to this bedroom again with the comfort of heated tile floor and a shower.

Alas---walk down the hall to a grand view out the large, floor to ceiling windows showcasing the Lake Superior back drop to the open design of the kitchen, dining, and living rooms. The furnishings are beautiful Old Hickory and the tasteful artwork and decor pulls you into the theme of the woods and lake shore. The relaxing living room furniture surrounds a stone studded gas fireplace to sit in comfort and talk about your wonderful day on the shore. Or you can relax and gaze out at the lake as the sun or moon rises.

The kitchen features granite counters with handsome Hickory cabinets. While preparing food at the counter facing the lake, you have access to the sink (with disposal), and the bar height counter to visit with your family and friends seated on the other side. The kitchen is complete with a dishwasher, refrigerator/freezer with ice maker, full size stove/oven, and microwave. It is well appointed with the pots and pans and utensils you need to make your meals. We also provide basic spices to aide in cooking your delicious meals. To help with food storage we provide tin foil and plastic wrap. We also provide paper towels and dish/hand/dishwasher soaps. The cupboards are filled with attractive stoneware and glassware that sets a lovely up-north table. You can enjoy your meal at the dining room table or out on the deck to revel in the panoramic view and entrancing sounds of Lake Superior!

After many years of vacationing on the North Shore, we purchased this town home in December 2014. We know what we appreciated and looked for in the properties we have stayed at. Our home is a compilation of all the things we loved from those wonderful times. You will find this is a vacation home that is well cared for and we plan to maintain the comfort level and continue to improve it as time goes on.

We pay well for a good cleaning person and also most of our cleaning products are all natural eco and human friendly. We manage our property ourselves and contract for other help as the need arises. Call anytime for help!

We decided to share our vacation home with others to offset the expenses of our vacation home. We are looking for GUESTS WHO WILL PARTNER WITH US IN USING OUR HOME WITH CARE. It is our hope your experience with us will keep you coming back for many years!

We are part of a quiet community of 26 privately owned residential town homes that are not owned or operated by any resort, hotel or lodge. This is a vacation by owner rental that allows travelers to experience a vacation out of the congested resort or hotel settings. You become part of our friendly community of owners and guests. We have a shared use building with a pool and sauna. Pool (open Memorial day to New Years) AND Sauna open Year round.

Our vacation home is centrally located just off Minnesota scenic North Shore drive Highway 61 and surrounded by some of the premier vacation state park destinations in Minnesota. The closest park being Split Rock Lighthouse which is one of the most visited and photographed lighthouses in the nation! It is hard to beat our location for travelers who want to be centrally located and capture “all” the shore has to offer.

We think you will agree, due to the nature of the shores length, if you are too far northeast or southwest you get trapped into only seeing part of the shore when you visit, but our location meets the needs of the travelers who want to see it all. Or, remain in this beautiful section of the shore and enjoy the many premier Minnesota favorite destinations near us. To highlight a few of the locations:

About Barb Daugs

Visiting the North Shore has been a part of our lives for 33 years and we enjoy both the lake and SHT.

We have set a goal to try and hike the entire Superior Hiking Trail. We've hiked or snow-shoed over 150 miles on the trail. Much of it has been many times over on some of our favorite hikes so we still have over 200 miles to finish the entire SHT!

We hike in most weather conditions, and do both day and night hikes. We have captured incredible sunsets on the trail by doing this. We have also seen some awesome northern lights. Star gazing from one of the summits on our hikes is a site you just have to see to believe. The stars are so brilliant!

Our other much loved part on the shore is just gazing at or walking along the shore of Lake Superior. The beauty of the sunrises, sunsets, as well as moon rises on the lake combined with the sound of the waves splashing onto the rocky shoreline are magical. The waves make for some incredible photo shots on the shore especially during the sunrise or sunset! We also enjoy star gazing at the water’s edge in lawn chairs. We also have had many a night campfires by the lake.

We finally decided we love it up on the North Shore so much, why not look for a place of our own? We wanted our place to be centrally located because we hike all areas of the Superior Hiking Trail. Also, we get up early to photograph the sunrise at various places on the shore, so we did not want to be limited to just one end of the shore. We thought being right between Duluth and Grand Marais was a perfect position. We also wanted to be close enough that we can get here from the cities in 3 hours. We were pretty excited to find this quiet, upscale community of cottages that perfectly fit our needs!

We plan to bring improvements as money allows. We aim to provide a clean, comfortable, well maintained place for our family and guests to relish all the North Shore has to offer, and provide a restful experience of hospitality at its best!

I would recommend the place to anyone. The kitchen is well stocked with supplies and the beds are very comfortable. Barb communicates back right away if any questions arise. My family and I were very pleased with the place and had a wonderful time.

unforgettable family vacation in paradise

  • 5 of 5

I could highly recommend this place. It is equipped with everything you could need and decorated lovely. The view is incredible and there are a lot of sightseeing and hiking places within 20 minutes. Black Beach, Palisade Head, Gooseberry Falls.. We spent a week there with 4 adults and 3 children and had enough space for all of us. We enjoyed some BBQ's at the balcony with lake view and some gorgeous moonlight and stars in the late evening.

Owner's Response: Karin it was so exciting to host you and your family from Switzerland! We are so happy you enjoyed Lake Superior our Minnesota treasure! We are tickled you loved our vacation home. It has been a blessing to us and many travelers. We are excited to share it with everyone. Thank you for taking such great care of our home during your stay! I agree the location of our vacation home really allows guests to experience the whole MN North Shore. We are right in the heart of the North Shore area. We are 50 minutes from Duluth. 60 minutes from Grand Marais. 1 hour 46 minutes to the Canadian Border. 5 Minutes to Split Rock light house state park. 10 minutes to Tettegouche State Park with the highest inland waterfall in MN. 35 minutes to ski Luten hills. Palisade Head is about 6 minutes and Black Beach is right before that. Gooseberry is 20 minutes as you said. Silver Bay marina is only 5 minutes or less and you can take fishing charters and boat tours from there. Our most favorite part is that we are centrally located to hike the Superior Hiking Trail. The 350 mile rocky ridge-line along beautiful Lake Superior. It starts in Duluth and goes to the Canadian Border. Look what National Geographic says... "Hiking the Superior Trail in Minnesota, one of 100 best American adventure trips from National Geographic." That trail is patterned after the Appalachian trail. It has parking lots every 6 to 11 miles. They have a shuttle service for hikers too. We like to do day hikes along the shore. Then come back to our vacation home and relax. Look up the Superior Hiking Trail and you will see what I mean. We have been touted as having some of the most prettiest section of hikes right in our area, but the whole trail is awesome! Thank you for allowing us to host guests from Switzerland. Thank you for the Swiss magnet to display. We look forward to host you again during your time in the US. Blessings, Barb and Bob

Great place to stay! Quality furnishings and appliances. Everything is well maintained and clean.

  • 5 of 5

Had a great time at the Windsong Cottage 607! We had a girls getaway. We loved our townhouse. The three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, were a definite plus! The house was very clean. Everything was in Tip-Top shape! The views from the living room, deck, and master bedroom were awesome. We had a great time doing the North Shore Drive and hiking all along the rivers and waterfalls! We are Foodies! So we tried to stop at all the quaint restaurants along the way. They offer great food! Will come back!

Owner's Response: Debra thank you for your time in giving a detailed review. We so appreciate those as it helps others who are looking for a nice place to stay on the shore. We are so happy to see your excellent review. Our hard work is paying off with happy guests. We do love the views being right on the waters edge. You will have to come up in Oct to May the waves can get so huge - I feel like we are on the ocean hearing them thunder along our shore. I look forward to hosting you all again. Thank you for your business and for taking such great care of our home. Blessings, Barb and Bob

Price was very fair for the beautiful condo with a million dollor veiw, had every thing we needed, especially 3 bath with 5 women!!!! Beds were very comfortable, with air conditioning or a fireplace for a very comfortable stay, was centrally located on North Shore, close to everything....Barb gave us a whole book of things to do and places she recommended to eat....she was very accurate as to what we was perfect when we were there, so we were lucky on that end, but she warned us to bring warm cloths in case, All 5 of us could not say enough great things about our stay...would definately go back....5 stars from 5 Ladies!

Owner's Response: Cheryl How wonderful to hear your feedback from a guest. I so appreciate your detailed review as it helps others to see that what I have talked about on my overview is accurate. Thank you for that. Our price point for what you get is great price as we are just trying to recoup our costs for the year. So it fluctuates a little each year depending on the expenses. We actually can use our place for free only 14 days out of the year and then we have to rent it the price we charge our guests. So it is in our interest to keep the prices low. Our friends and family pay the same price as well. We are going to put together a 607 family VIP plan for guests/family/Us who book with us each year. Send email specials to them throughout the year. That is in the works as to how to do that. We are working on a website with a member log to sign up to be part of the Windsong 607 family. Hopefully that will be coming in beginning of 2018. We look forward to hosting you all again. Thank you for taking such great care of our home and for your business. Blessings, Barb and Bob

Everything was just as advertised - a wonderful home that worked perfectly for our group (4 adults and 2 children). We used almost everything available (pool, sauna, in-room tub, grill, fireplace, Frog & Toad book!) and all were perfect. Despite a little rain, we enjoyed several hikes and sites in the area. Would definitely come back here again. Barb's attention to detail is outstanding.
