About the property

This newly renovated property boasts fine historic features and modern design

Built in 1865, this classic New Orleans double-parlor, Greek Revival townhouse has been carefully restored to offer visitors an authentic and comfortable hideaway in the heart of the city. The property has original hardwood floors throughout, the home's original staircase, intricate cypress molding, ten foot windows, and towering ceilings; all of the charming qualities that set New Orleans architecture apart. The home has also been updated with energy efficient improvements such as tankless water heaters, energy star rated appliances, fully insulated walls, and more.

The townhouse has two bedrooms located on the second floor along with a large shared bathroom and laundry facilities. Each bedroom has a queen size bed and full walk-in closets. The master bedroom enjoys fantastic light from a pair of large guillotine windows that open on to a second floor balcony where guests may relax after a full day of sight seeing as the sun sets across the Crescent City.

The first floor is designed for all of your entertaining needs with an open floor plan and a full guest bath. The living room features comfortable living furnishings including a sofa, chairs, and cable TV. A dining table seating six occupies the dining space. The kitchen, with composite quartz countertops and new stainless appliances, opens to the living/dining space with a large bar. The stove is a five burner gas stove, satisfying the cook in the family.

Those guests traveling with transportation will enjoy the home's close proximity to many transit options and sights within walking distance, including the St Charles Streetcar, Lower Garden District, WWII Museum, and Superdome.

Lovely old Home lacking in comfort, cleanliness

  • 2 of 5

This home has been nicely remodeled by its architect owner but lacks in consideration for its guests’ comfort and safety. The house is advertised for 4 guests but the living room contains uncomfortable seating for 3. Two of the dining room table chairs were too wobbly to sit on safely and Marty did repair them when asked to. The kitchen cupboards were dirty and sticky. There were 3 coffee mugs for 4 people; Marty brought us one more when we texted. The downstairs shower has nowhere to put toiletries, no storage. The staircase to the second floor is steep and the handrail is dangerously loose, to the point that if it were grabbed in a stumbled step, one could fall through to the story below. Upstairs, the master bedroom has no closet, no drawers- just a large empty room with bed, chair, and 3partition wooden screen. We hung our clothes on the shuttered louvres of the screen. There are no bedside end tables for a book or a chapstick or glass of water. The only light comes from dim LED bulbs in recessed lighting in the lovely 12 foot ceilings. In other words, if you like to read in bed, forget it. The same hold true for the entire downstairs lighting.

The master bathroom is spacious. There are no towel bars and lighting is pretty bad. The old tub, surrounded by a shower curtain, has nothing to hold onto to climb in; if you lose your footing, a fall seems inevitable. In the hallway there is a large chest of drawers with two drawers that are usable. I guess this is where guests are to unpack their clothes. The second bedroom has a closet but the “wardrobe” in the room is inoperable and therefore useless to place clothes. The occupants of that room had trouble sleeping because it was warm in the room and the overhead fan didn’t work (Ours did but only on “high”, which was way too much) and also because of an unidentifiable odor. When we stripped the sheets, the source of the smell was revealed: the torn and stained mattress pad. Disgusting. For a little more investment, Marty could make this a clean, safe, comfortable rental that would be totally charming. Why he has chosen to fall so short is mystifying. It appears the house is a “cash cow” he can milk regularly without feeding or grooming the cow. I don’t know how often he actually goes into it to deeply assess its suitability to rent out, but it seems not often enough.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the feedback. Every comment helps me improve the experience of my guests. I rely on my cleaning team, as well as guests, to tell me when things are missing, broken, or worn from use. As I said during your stay, the previous tenants were in town for a wedding and quite a few things were damaged and missing after their departure. My contractor just finished a week of interior work on historic upgrades and improvements, so hopefully these will be noticeable to future guests. As with any residential renovation, it takes time and money to fully complete. I’ve been adding things to make the stay more comfortable every couple of months as I can afford to do so.

I stayed here for a week while in town for business. The house was fantastic and Marty was hospitable and responsive. I enjoyed my stay and would look to return in the future. Highly recommend.

Lovely Modern French Home

  • 5 of 5

It is a lovely home that has a touch of modern to it, along with the French. We loved it! I believe it is time to update pictures online as it has changed since these pictures were taken. Four of us stayed comfortably. You can walk a few blocks to the trolley, but using Uber was the best...and cheap!

The owner so kindly answered every text or call! We should have called him about this...but, we never could get hot water in the shower on the bottom floor. Past that minor thing, we would recommend this place.

Perfect New Orleans getaway

  • 5 of 5

There were 4 adults and we stayed here 4 nights in April (between Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest). We loved staying in a quiet neighborhood away from the Quarter, but still close enough to get around easily.

There is plenty of room, it's incredibly comfortable and clean, as well as unique and cool - high ceilings, modern and well-stocked kitchen, central air conditioning, 2 full bathrooms, a delightful front porch to hang out on. We rented a car and there was ample street parking. We felt perfectly safe and it's walking distance to more than enough markets, bars, and coffee shops.

Marty, the owner, couldn't have been nicer and more accommodating, as well as very generous and knowledgeable about dining options and other advice.

We would absolutely stay here again.
