About Jeff and Melissa

We are a young family with two beautiful girls who love to explore the wonders of Yosemite. I work long days in the medical research field, my wife is busy with the girls and we split our time between San Jose and Yosemite.

Jeff and Melissa purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Jeff and Melissa chose Yosemite Area

We had explored Yosemite Park for years before finding the Chalet in 2014. The house was a diamond in the rough. After a year of extensive remodeling we have created our dream vacation home that we are proud to share with travelers to the Park.

What makes this chalet unique

The Chalet is a private home on a large lot in Yosemite West. This special community is located inside the gates of the Park at 6000' elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

We're the perfect location to base your exploration of Yosemite. It's 25 minutes north to Yosemite Valley, 25 minutes east to Glacier Point, 15 minutes to Badger Pass and 25 minutes south to Wawona. The three main attractions of Yosemite are easy and scenic drives from the Chalet.

We are one of the few properties to have air conditioning to help beat the summer heat.

Meticulously kept home

  • 5 of 5

I pride myself on being orderly and organized (bordering on obsessive) so I LOVED staying in this home because whoever maintains it, has the same tendencies as well! Everything from (cleaning supplies, dishes, utensils. books, etc) is labelled from the cabinet or shelf so you know where to find it and where to return it. We did not cook in the home, but the kitchen is well stocked, even with spices (love the cabinet organization!) It is still a 35-40 minute drive to Yosemite Valley, but it is so worth staying inside the park to avoid an even longer drive and re-entrance lines into the park.

I highly recommend the open tram 2 hour Yosemite Valley tour through the National Park System. We did take the 4 hour Glacier Point Tour (also an NPS tour), but I do not I would recommend it if you are staying in this home... I think I would have rather driven up myself to Glacier Point and spent more time there than the tour allowed for.

Also, not knowing anything about the area, we came in from San Francisco through hwy 120 and left via hwy 140. I think it is an easier drive using hwy 140. Hwy 120 seems at very high altitude and the road winds quite a lot (as a passenger, it was downright frightening to look down the cliffs). I'm just sharing this because I wish someone advised me about the difference in route. Of course there might be a longer line getting into Yosemite at hwy 140, but if you are staying in this home, you only have to enter once!

All in all, our stay of 3 nights in this home was wonderful. The one thing you can't tell from the pictures is that there is no flat area around the home, it is situated on the top of a small steep hill (we brought the kids a soccer ball to play with, but ended up going to the Majestic Hotel grounds to play). By the way, don't eat at the Majestic Hotel (the food is below average unfortunately... the Mountain Room at Yosemite Lodge in the valley is much better, but they are only open for dinner) There is a nice selection of maps, books, cookbooks, family DVDs in the home. Plan on unplugging your www connection to the outside world if you stay here. We have AT&T cell service which only works in the valley. I used some internet in the house to check email, send some pictures and to make 1 phone call using the WiFi and after that, no more internet until it resets at noon apparently. Also FYI you will not have any reception or WiFi until you drive about 1-1/2 hours to get into and out of Yosemite.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

We spent 3 nights in this great cabin. Everything appeared to be fresh and new. There were top of the line appliances and every utensil and pots/pans you could need in the kitchen to cook gourmet meals. The location can't be beat - inside the park with just a 20 min drive to the valley floor. Jeff & Melissa were responsive when we had a small issue with the bedding. The Wi-fi is very limited, maxing out the allotted data quickly. No cell service. The jacuzzi tub was perfect after a long day of hiking (although it could have been flushed out better). I LOVED the fact that all of the cabinets and light switches were labeled so things were easy to find or figure out. The electric blankets were a nice touch. I highly recommend this "cabin" (it was more like a home!).

Comfortable and convenient

  • 5 of 5

Let me start by saying I have NO complaints about this property. It's location is about 20 minutes from Yosemite Valley to the north and the Wawona area to the south, much closer than any out-of-park lodging. The house has everything we could've wanted--comfortable living areas, a fully-stocked and equipped kitchen (the other reviews aren't fibbing about that!), soft beds with warm bedding, and lots of info about the park. No problems with appliances or heat. The TV worked fine (we used it for music mostly). There's a small electric fireplace that adds a nice touch as well. I couldn't get any cell service (sorry about Mothers Day, Mom!) and the Wi-Fi only worked in the evening for a short while, if that matters to you. We also appreciated the fact that we only had to climb a few steps to enter the house. Many homes in Yosemite West require scaling several flights of stairs to reach the front door. With the cleaning fee and taxes, this home is a little spendy, but if you're splitting the cost with 3 or more people, it's in line with park lodging. And, you don't have to share it with anybody else. Sweet!

Comfy beds, nice kitchen amenities, games

  • 4 of 5

Beds here were outstanding; comfortable mattresses. Even the twin day bed was comfortable. Very nice having our little one in the same room, yet separate bed vs a cot because our son knows the difference in quality.

We enjoyed scrabble and the puzzles. Kitchen had everything we needed.

Wished we had full access to WiFi, but amount of data was limited. Also would be have been nice to have washer-dryer access since there are no washer-dryer places close by.

For some reason, we had no hot water when we arrived. The water heater was behind a locked door. We had to call the property manager to light the pilot light.

Really enjoyed this place. Close to Yosemite Valley.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review of the Yosemite Paradise Chalet. We appreciate your many kind observations. Regarding the WiFi, our website does explain that there is a daily limit of 400MB, although data is unlimited from midnight to 5 AM every day. The only internet provider in the remote mountains of Yosemite is satellite internet, and the service provider imposes bandwidth limits. We regret the inconvenience of the problem with the water heater, but we would like to point out that the property manager was able to the go the Paradise Chalet and resolve the issue within an hour of being made aware of the problem. There is a washer/dryer on site at the Paradise Chalet, but its use is normally restricted to guests staying one week or longer. If guests staying less than one week contact the property managers with a request to use the laundry, limited access is provided. Once again, we thank you for staying with us and for your comments.

PERFECT PARADISE CHALET!

  • 5 of 5

This place is a gem, in every way. I travel a ton for work and practically live at hotels 80%+ of the time, and the Yosemite Paradise Chalet (YPC) was a lovely getaway that exceeded my expectations! So impressed! The owners' dedication and TLC to every detail in the cabin is apparent.

We visited during winter (end of Feb) to catch Firefall. It was pretty cold and the neighborhood was covered in snow. Even snowed the last day I was there!

PROS:

-Cabin location: Very close to Badger Pass and key Yosemite sites, just off of HWY41

-Interior: Beautiful! The ATTENTION TO DETAIL at this place was astonishing! The kitchen is better equipped and organized than my dream kitchen! (no joke, there was even a kitchenaid mixer stocked for guest use; an item literally on my wishlist). There's A/C, heater, wifi, a land line, a fireplace, jets in the bathroom tubs w/epsom salt (I took a bath - super relaxing!), fully equipped kitchen with pots, pans, cooking spices (organic), baking trays, silverware, the list goes on...you name it–it’s probably there!

-Everything felt clean, cozy and high quality. That’s really important to me. I appreciated that all products offered are ORGANIC (incl. coffee, tea, and the bathroom amenities) and high quality (plush bathroom towels, 2ply toilet paper, etc.). There's a bookshelf full of games, puzzles, books and a TV w/DVD collection (great for kids!)

-Exterior: Deck in the back w/BBQ (kitchen even has proper steak knives) and cute porch in the front w/lounge chairs (good for summer). Also good for winter - we used the porch to dance in the snow!

-FEW STAIRS: Driveway takes you up to the top with only a few stairs to the door. This was a BLESSING in comparison to the other cabins we saw in the neighborhood (w/40+ stairs). Wouldn’t want to haul my luggage up ALL that!

Tips:

-Bring plenty of food/snacks. The kitchen makes it so easy to prepare quick meals. Much easier than having to drive out somewhere in search of a restaurant and mediocre food.

-Winter weather in Yosemite can be unpredictable. It snowed and I’m glad we rented an AWD SUV plus tire chains. Make sure you plan properly! (snow shoes, warm clothing)

-WIFI wasn’t working during stay (for entire neighborhood, not just YPC). Be prepared for unpredictable coverage in mountains. It was hard at first, but it ended up being WONDERFUL to plug out completely from the world. (but plan accordingly)

Our trip was PERFECT! Can't wait to come back. Thanks Yosemite Paradise Chalet!
