About Jeff and Melissa
We are a young family with two beautiful girls who love to explore the wonders of Yosemite. I work long days in the medical research field, my wife is busy with the girls and we split our time between San Jose and Yosemite.
Jeff and Melissa purchased this Chalet in 2014
Why Jeff and Melissa chose Yosemite West
We had explored Yosemite Park for years before finding the Chalet in 2014. The house was a diamond in the rough. After a year of extensive remodeling we have created our dream vacation home that we are proud to share with travelers to the Park.
What makes this Chalet unique
The Chalet is a private home on a large lot in Yosemite West. This special community is located inside the gates of the Park at 6000' elevation in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. We're the perfect location to base your exploration of Yosemite. It's 25 minutes north to Yosemite Valley, 25 minutes east to Glacier Point, 15 minutes to Badger Pass and 25 minutes south to Wawona. The three main attractions of Yosemite are easy and scenic drives from the Chalet. We are one of the few properties to have air conditioning to help beat the summer heat.

Wonderful getaway close to Yosemite Valley
This is a well appointed cabin, perfect for a family vacation to Yosemite. It was clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed when we got snowed in! It is a magical place--neighborhood is lovely & location is perfect! A definite repeat!
My only comment pertains to the fact that we were there when a snow storm hit with several feet of snow. It was the 1st storm of the year. I would have liked management to tell me to drive a car different than I did. I messaged management to be sure my minivan would be able to navigate the roads and inquired specifically if I should rent a different car. They said the minivan would be ok. Not true! We could not get out of the neighborhood with cables on our minivan tires--we slid right back down the hills!. I ended up paying $250 for a company to drive in thick chains so we could climb out of the neighborhood. We were also told that our driveway would be plowed (all the neighbor's driveways were plowed daily). It never happened. We shoveled the driveway ourselves every day. I didn't mind the exercise, but would like what we are told to be followed through on!
We used this rental for our wedding trip and got married in Yosemite while there. The house was everything that was stated and we couldn't have been more pleased with it! The property managers were great and very timely with any questions I had. We would definitely recommend it to anyone going to Yosemite!
Perfect for adventuring in Yosemite!
We had a lovely stay in Yosemite West! Great location for ‘lots of great hiking! Super clean, great use of space, and really well stocked kitchen!
Relaxing stay in Yosemite
My family of four loved our experience at this cabin located within Yosemite. The cabin is centrally located. We drive to the Yosemite Valley both days of our stay. The cabin is clean and well maintained with a very well stocked kitchen for cooking and baking. The beds were comfortable. We hope to make it back to Yosemite soon and would like to stay at this cabin again.
Beautiful house but no laundry
This is a beautiful house, with a better equipped kitchen then we’ve ever seen in a rental property. We had a lovely stay, but we probably wouldn’t rent this house again for several reasons. The first is that it’s listed as having a mountain view but there’s actually no view of mountains at all. In a location like Yosemite, that’s important. The second is that the internet connection is even worse than previous reviewers have indicated. Some days we couldn’t use it at all; other days we had a few minutes before it disappeared. Finally, not having a washer or dryer is a problem in a place where there’s really no good alternative. Clothes get dirty when people are out hiking, and not being able to wash them is a major headache. There are several locked closets in the house, and I would guess that there are laundry facilities in one of them, so that the housekeeping service can wash the linens and towels. There is also a sentence in the notebook provided for renters, recommending that they only do full loads to save water. This would seem to indicate that at one time renters did have access to the laundry facilities and for some reason the owners decided to change that. In my opinion this was a mistake, and would probably keep us from returning to this rental.
We are glad to know that you enjoyed your stay at the Yosemite Paradise Chalet and that you appreciated the lovely kitchen that the owners offer their guests. We would like to respond to some of your negative comments:
You said that the Paradise Chalet advertises a mountain view. That is not true. In 2 separate areas in the description of views from the Paradise Chalet, the views are described as "forest views". A "mountain view" is mentioned elsewhere, but that refers to the Tunnel View at the entrance to Yosemite Valley. The exact paragraph is: "The world famous Tunnel View is just 10 miles away and is the perfect place to see Half Dome, El Capitan, Bridalveil Falls, Cathedral Rocks and Yosemite Valley all in one breath-taking panorama." Nowhere is it stated or implied that you can see that from the house.
You mentioned the WiFi. There are daily data limitations that are imposed by the satellite internet provider. These data limitations reset every day. In our Welcome Letter we also ask our guests to be aware of and turn off any cloud backups/syncing settings on their devices that could unexpectedly use up the data limits. Unfortunately there is no alternative broadband internet service provider in the neighborhood that doesn’t impose data limits, and the owners provide their guests with the best internet connectivity that is available in this remote neighborhood.
Regarding the laundry, there is indeed a laundry for housekeeper use, but not for guest use. It is not mentioned as a guest amenity on the Paradise Chalet Vrbo page. We are a forest community with a limited water and sewer system that has capacity issues. Those systems cannot support daily guest laundry in addition to the many loads of laundry that the housekeepers have to do on a regular basis.
Great family house!
Everything you need and more! The jets on the upstairs tub weren’t working and the shower curtains could be replaced but other than that it’s perfect!
