Thank you for choosing Palace Rocco. We wish you a splendid holiday on the Amalfi coast awarded by UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thank you. Francesca
In the middle of the busy Amalfi Coast lies the amazing town of Praiano and in the middle of that you will find Palace Rocco - indeed a palace. Recently renovated to old world Italian charm, the prize after walking up and down 500 sets of stairs (maybe a slight exaggeration) is the outdoor patio overlooking the sea! The outdoor space is where you will want to spend your time!! The house has ample space and the bedrooms all comfortable with lots of bathrooms for a large group. The kitchen is small and not that well stocked for cooking but it is a small price to pay for this location and home. Five minutes walk (more stairs) to a great grocery store (Tutto per Tutti) for all your wine and anitpasti needs and very close to some fantastic restaurants (highly recommend Kasai). If you are driving, good luck! The roads are harrowing and the parking scarce but the parking for Palace Rocco was protected and easy.
For those who like to hike - put aside time for the Path of the Gods but bring lots of water and be brave - it is not for the faint hearted.
We had a great day in Positano on the empty beach (it was March after all) and a great (boozy long) lunch at Le Tre Sorelle.
Great and responsive hosts who helped set up a chef one night to come in to cook for us which was a highlight.
Great for kids, families and large groups of friends. We highly recommend staying here!
We spent a wonderful four nights here in the Villa. The house was beautiful, spacious and exactly as advertised in the photographs. The courtyard was peaceful and the views were spectacular, filled with the ocean and flowering trees.
Francesca was very helpful in the lead up to our trip, and assisted us in arranging transport from nearby Naples. We were met at the apartment by Luca, who provided a wonderful orientation to the home, assisted us in arranging a trip to Capri, and even took members of our group to the grocery store to pick up some supplies! Both Francesca and Luca were accessible and helpful throughout our stay.
A highlight of our trip was having a local chef, Mario, come to the villa to prepare a meal. We had a great time helping to select the menu, and loved learning from him in the kitchen (and eating the food, obviously). His wife makes a spectacular tiramisu. We highly recommend asking Francesca about this option!
Some tips for those planning a visit:
1) We neglected to read the full description, and did not realize that the cleaning fee was not included in the online transaction. Obtaining 250 Euros at the last minute proved challenging when the nearby ATM was not functioning! Francesca was very accommodating, and we were able to sort it out over the next few days, but we wished we had noticed that and prepared ahead.
2) The walk to the beach from the villa is beautiful! We didn't discover this until our last day - it's a quick walk to the area where you can catch the boat to Capri. It's a wonderful place to sit for a coffee or a drink in the morning or at sunset.
3) Bus transportation is not consistent. The smaller orange/red buses that go around Praiano and between Praiano and Positano are fantastic, but we found service with the larger Sita buses much less predictable. On two occasions, these buses were 'full' (subjective, capacity appeared to be at the driver's discretion), and with more than an hour between each bus, this made our travel plans to Amalfi town impossible. If you are very set on making it to a specific location, consider starting very early, or considering the slightly more expensive options of boat or booking a driver.
Overall - we loved everything about our visit, and were extremely impressed with Palace Rocco, Francesca's help, and Praiano itself. We will be planning another trip!
We have just returned from a wonderful trip to Praiano, the Amalfi coast and Rome. The highlight of our trip was our stay in Praiano at the Rocco Palace. From the beginning when we met our driver Rosario, to the end of the week, we throughly enjoyed ourselves. The villa was spotlessly clean and very well equipped. Franscesa, Filomena and Luca were all helpful when we had questions. I would recommend this villa to everyone!
Six of us stayed in the Villa Sun Shining in Love for a wonderful week. Upon our arrival we were greeted by a very helpful Lucca who gave us an orientation. After a walk down a path and a dozen or so steps we entered the large terrace with stunning views. Walking inside we experienced the true beauty of the villa itself. From the ceramic tiled bathrooms with beautiful lighting to the chandeliered bedrooms everything was elegantly styled. The village of Praiano was a perfect retreat after spending time in the crowded surrounding towns which were accessible by bus. There were many excellent restaurants in Praiano itself that were within walking distance or by the local bus. Several evenings we preferred sitting on the terrace drinking wine and eating cheeses, fruit and delicious tomatoes purchased from the local market. Everyone in our group agreed that the Villa exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend it as a perfect place to stay.
The property has been refurbished very well indeed to a high specification. We thoroughly enjoyed making it our home for the week. The air conditioning was essential and worked very well. The beds were all very comfortable and the bedrooms are very spacious with added necessities like mosquito diffusers, hair dryers, soaps etc. We kept the windows closed most of the time so didn't suffer from mosquitos inside. The steam shower was a luxurious addition to the master bedroom. The views of the sea from the bedrooms and the terrace never failed to astound - every morning we woke up and couldn't wait to open the shutters. We spent a lot of time out on the terrace reading, and eating as it is perfectly set up for this. The BBQ worked very well and we had beautiful meals cooked off of it. Francesca arranged for a local chef to cook a meal with us one evening which was enjoyable. All our needs were taken care of by Luca and Francesca. I would highly recommend this property to others. Praiano was the perfect location for us: enough restaurants to visit and day trips to go on, but not over run with posing tourists - it felt less frenetic than other towns on the coast and suited us perfectly. It would be great if some essential items like washing machine detergent, bin bags, and other items were provided, but apart from that we were very happy here indeed and didn't want to leave!
My husband and I were celebrating our 25th anniversary and traveling with our grown sons this week on the Amalfi coast. Palace Rocco - White Moon Shining - was the only villa available although the photos were dated. Francesca assured us the renovation would be complete by our arrival. It was and is spectacular! The view stunning and decoration fresh, Italian and elegant. Luca greeted us and was very friendly. He not only spoke English well but was super helpful with other requests during the week - even delivering groceries for us on his motor bike! They also had arranged for a guy to carry our luggage up and down upon arrival and departure( much appreciated). Praiano is a small quiet town - a welcome respite from Amalfi where you can use as a hub for day trips. If you are not used to walking you will be by the end, as the area is not for the faint steppers! But views make it all worth it. We highly recommend this villa. Thanks Francesca for the bottle of Proscecca.
The ancient Palace Rocco is accessed through a pedestrian street, without stairs, about 200 meters from the the Municipality of Praiano. At about 200 meters from the house are available many useful services such as ATMs, restaurants, a supermarket and the bus stop to Positano, Amalfi, Ravello, Sorrento and other destinations.
The beach and the the quaint seaside village "La Praia", with its restaurants and bars, can be reached on foot in ten minutes, with a distance of approximately 500 meters. At the Praia Beach you can rent boats, do any excursion by sea and mainly for "Capri". Also nearby is the famous nightclub “Africana” open from June to September.
