Overview

Photos and Description of this Perigord Noir holiday barn

Sarlat, Dordogne, four character cottages, original features and stunning views.

La Ferme de La Tour is an ensemble of beautiful old farm buildings dating back to the 16th century. Overlooking 2 1/2 acres of parkland, are four impeccably presented cottages / barn conversions, and a large chlorine free heated swimming pool. High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views enabling you to watch the ever changing colours of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. To visit our personal website scroll down and click on the link at the bottom of the facilities page just above the car hire advert.

WIFI is available throughout, with boosters in each gite, ensuring a good reception no matter where you are..........

On site activities include table tennis, boules, badminton, football net and swings..

We welcome families and couples alike, however our premises are not suitable for children under five years of age.

Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site...

About Chris and Kate Waters

We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.

Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.

Chris and Kate Waters purchased this barn in 2004

Why Chris and Kate Waters chose Perigord Noir

We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are, several years have past and the renovation and transformation completed, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.

What makes this barn unique

The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.

We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.

Totally relaxing home from home

  • 5 of 5

Our gite was charmingly French but with all mod.cons., we wanted for nothing and it was spotlessly clean. Our hosts were very friendly, without being intrusive and the gardens and grounds were maintained beautifully, all adding up to a delightful scene. We particularly liked the printed walks provided, restaurant recommendations and even directions to accessible car parks. There are endless places of beauty and historical interest to visit a short drive away and Sarlat is particularly interesting with its market twice a week. Would thoroughly recommend to friends and family.

Owner's Response: Thank you Chris and Phil for your review and your custom. We were so glad that you were able to extend your stay and enjoy the sunshine to the full. The walks have proved really popular and we have now printed a pocket size copy. As discussed, if you decide to return with your family then you would be welcome. Thanks again, Chris and Kate.

wonderful stay in a beautiful area of France

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at La Grange with our family - the property is beautiful and the views are truly memorable. The huge yard was a child's dream - our 8 year old could have spent the entire week just playing in the pool, trampoline, swing, table tennis. But we did get out to enjoy the castles, walks around the farms and hills around La Grange were wonderful, and canoeing on the Dordogne river. Chris and Kate were fabulous hosts. Highly recommend for a great vacation getaway!

Owner's Response: Thank you Rachel and Isaak for your review, it's good to know that you enjoyed your week.. It was lovely to meet you both and to see Raya enjoying her time in the garden and the pool, spending her energy before commencing the next leg of your trip ( we are very envious )

A perfect base for exploring the region.

  • 5 of 5

We spent 12 very enjoyable days in this comfortable "gîte". Our daughter enjoyed the games provided in the spacious garden, with lovely views . Peace and tranquility are assured.

Chris is a very friendly and helpful host.

Sarlat is a beautiful town with medieval architecture throughout and has great restaurants. The villages and "châteaux" in the area are superb. The countryside is stunning and pristine clean everywhere.

We had a super holiday.

A wonderful get-away

  • 5 of 5

My husband, almost-3-year-old, and I loved staying here! My toddler had to be torn away each day from the enormous back yard where she was able to swing, climb, use a trampoline, and play around with various game equipment (badminton, table tennis, soccer, etc.). The view is beautiful. Inside, the décor is simple and quaint. The kitchen was well-equipped, and we made several meals there. The owners provided a booster seat and baby bathtub for our stay, which was invaluable. We enjoyed walks around the property and trips into nearby Sarlat. Most attractions that we visited were a 20-40-minute drive, so we thought the property was well-located.

Perfect Summer Get Away- comfy, quiet and relaxing

  • 5 of 5

As a child, I would spend summers in the south of France often. This year, I wanted to show my husband this fantastic place, so we decided to spend a week in France. It was a given we'd stay in the Dordogne valley, but found this property through the HomeAway website and booked it right away. The owner was very communicative throughout the booking process and next steps were always clear. Prior to arrival, we received info to ensure we knew where to go, how to get there, etc. The packet also included local grocery store locations (and directions!), so we could pick up a few things for dinner before arriving. As a Type-A person, this level of detail was exactly what I was looking for. The directions were so clear, there's no way we could have got lost, even if we tried!

After arrival, we were met with stunning views across the garden, a sparkling pool, a very welcoming patio and chairs to enjoy dinner on. Entering the gite, I felt that the pictures on the website matched perfectly with what we saw and experienced. It was spacious, charming and furnished very well. The bed was a little firm for us Americans, but we quickly adjusted. We had two nights of 80F+ nights, so having the fans around was great. The kitchen had everything we needed and we were pleased to see the TV had some English channels for the one day we take off to veg (we may have binge watched a good handful of episodes of Come Dine With Me while sipping wine and eating cheese :)). The WiFi strength was strong throughout the property which was perfect for us for quick restaurant research and uploading all our pics to Facebook to make our friends jealous ;)

The location was perfect- far enough out of town so as to not have traffic or tourists everywhere. Close enough that you could be in Sarlat within 15 minutes for some lunch. No complaints there at all. There were stacks of suggested restaurants and places to visit and all that we did visit did not disappoint. We even went on a few of the suggested walks and the countryside was absolutely gorgeous!

The gite was perfect for us and we felt welcome and comfortable. We were looking for something private and relaxing and got exactly that. The owner was incredibly accommodating and courteous throughout our visit. We will certainly be back and have been recommending this property to our friends and family since we returned home.

Fantastic house, setting and hosts

  • 5 of 5

We spent an amazing week in La Grange, a beautiful 2 bedrooms, spacious gite. We were greeted on arrival by a cheery Chris, shown around and immediately felt comfortable and welcome. The gite is fitted with all modeon necessities to make life easy on your holiday, including microwave, bar b que and washing machine. We have 2 small boys aged 5 and 7, who loved the beautiful pool and the freedom to ramble and play in the large gardens, we felt they were very safe in the gardens and in full view all the time. Chris and Kate are wonderful hosts and full of information regarding activities in the region. Sarlat is only a 10 min drive away and definitely worth spending time in. We also hired a canoe on the river, and visited Castelnaud and other historic points of interest all within 20 mins of the house. The surrounding area is beautiful for walking, and I enjoyed sneaking out of the house early for a morning walk each day, picking up bread and croissants on the way back. I would fully recommend this property for a holiday. we hope to be back in the next couple of years, but will stay for 2 weeks next time - there is so much to do in this area. Many thanks to Chris and Kate.

Situated within the hamlet of La Tour we are two minutes from the pretty village of Sainte Nathalene with a bar, hotel, restaurants and small shop. Just 7 miles from the historical town of Sarlat-la-Caneda with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe and a twice weekly market, it is perfectly placed for access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne and Lot. There are numerous chateaux to visit, caves to explore and pretty market towns to meander through. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages close by. The Perigord region is famous for it's quality food and wine (of which Sarlat with an array of street entertainment is arguably the capital) available at very affordable rates. For the even more serious wine lover then Bergerac and it's fine wine region is only an hour away. For those that want to sample the local wine then transport can be arranged locally.
