High on a hill, at the top of a valley, we are surrounded by magnificent countryside, a network of pretty footpaths and a neighbouring historical château. The breathtaking valley views, gardens and huge skies will overwhelm you with a feeling of peace and tranquillity disturbed only by the abundance of wildlife and the occasional distant tractor. The pool, which is bathed in sunshine from dawn to dusk, is perfectly sited to maximise the views of the Dordogne valley. Each gite has excellent WIFI reception. During the summer ( end of May to the end of September ) Le Fournil and The Cottage are available on a Friday to Friday basis. La Grange and La Petite Grange are both available on a Saturday to Saturday basis. We are flexible during the remainder of the year.
We welcome families and couples alike, however our premises are not suitable for children under five years of age.
Friendly but unobtrusive owners live on site..
We are an average family of four that originate from the village of Wroxham in Norfolk in the east of England.
Why did we move to France ? Why not...... We are, or should I say were, the same as most working families in the western world, devoted parents, but having to give ourselves and far too much time to careers which involve long hours and stress. So we looked for an alternative and France seemed like the right choice. The choice provided us with more stress and longer hours than you can imagine and for the first three or four years it was extremely hard work, both physically and mentally. However we are now reaping the benefits and enjoying our new life to the full, in one of the most beautiful areas we could have dreamed of living.
Chris and Kate Waters purchased this cottage in 2004
We moved lock stock and barrel to the Sarlat area in 2004, buying a set of empty farm buildings that needed far too much work. But the position and the views had us hooked and nothing came anywhere near a close second. So here we are, several years have past and the renovation and transformation completed, but not without some real highs and lows and a vast collection of stories and experiences.
The position is magical and just not possible to capture in a picture.
We have been extremely lucky to find a property with such a formula of character, views and location. We are close to Sarlat, which is the jewel of the Dordogne, yet in a truly rural setting in stunning countryside.
Le Fournil's location, with its stunning views across the valley from your own terrace and the pool, has to be one of the best in the area.
All the top attractions are an easy drive or short taxi ride (kindly provided by Chris) away.
We loved exploring the area and indulging in lazy lunches in Sarlat, Domme, Beynac etc, then picking up wonderful local produce from the close by hypermarket, or one of the numerous daily markets held in the nearby villages, to enjoy back on our terrace with a bottle of wine watching the sunset.
We can highly recommend packing a picnic and hiring a canoe to drift down the river taking in a completely different view of the numerous chateaux as you wind you way slowly along. There are also plenty of lovely walks from Le Fournill, which you can end with a cooling dip on your return.
Chris and Kate are the prefect hosts, eager to help and offer advice on local attractions / restaurants, but more than that, they are genuinely nice, fun people with a love of the area and keen for you to enjoy it too.
We will definitely return and have no hesitation in recommending Chris and Kate's wonderful Le Fournill.
The property was fantastic, description given was spot on, had everything you needed for a long or short stay. We were there for three week and sad to leave. The property, pool and garden were spotless and in fantastic condition. Kate and Chris were great and made our stay effortless. An added bonus are the amazing views and it is situated in a great area to explore the Dordogne. I would without a doubt recommend this as a great place to stay and will be going back !
A most attractive gite. It is compact, well maintained with all essentials at hand. It's position not only offers an excellent view but also provides welcome privacy. The owner could not be more helpful.
The bedroom can get very warm but a fan is available.
Our interaction with the Owner was excellent from enquiry to booking and the holiday stay itself. Le Fournil ticked the box for all our requirements, very well equipped and spotlessly clean. Great selection and variety of countryside walks which the Owner has documented. Good selection of Restaurants within a 30 to 60 minute drive, and interestingly the Owner can provide a Drop off and Pick up service by arrangement. A bonus was the superb WiFi and British TV Stations set up. We can absolutely recommend without reservation.
Breda and Derek stayed May 2016
Second return trip to Chris and Kate's beautifully located gites where they have made us most welcome, the gites are clean and maintained to a very high standard which we can recommend to all. We have really enjoyed both visits to Sarlat
And the local area.
Situated within the hamlet of La Tour we are two minutes from the pretty village of Sainte Nathalene with a bar, hotel, restaurants and small shop. Just 7 miles from the historical town of Sarlat-la-Caneda with more listed buildings than any other town in Europe and a twice weekly market, it is perfectly placed for access to all of the most beautiful sites in Dordogne and Lot. There are numerous chateaux to visit, caves to explore and pretty market towns to meander through. There is also a wide range of outdoor activities for all ages close by. The Perigord region is famous for it's quality food and wine (of which Sarlat with an array of street entertainment is arguably the capital) available at very affordable rates. For the even more serious wine lover then Bergerac and it's fine wine region is only an hour away. For those that want to sample the local wine then transport can be arranged locally. Please contact us for details of our website and further internal and external pictures.
All accommodation has satellite television with a large choice of English speaking channels available and DVD players..........
The gites have been converted to a high standard in which we ( the owners ) take great pride. We have stayed in many gites in France and have taken our experiences and put together a range of accommodation that would exceed our own expectations and hope that it helps to make your holiday something special..........
All accommodation is well insulated helping you stay comfortable throughout both the summer and winter seasons. The Cottage and La Grange both have wood burning stoves and logs are provided...........
All bed linen, bath towels, hand towels, tea clothes, gas and electricity are included............
The pool is shared with the owners and guests staying at the accommodation within La Ferme de La Tour............
A library of DVD's is available on request.................
All properties are available all year..................
Other Activities in the area include: canoeing, ballooning, karting, wine tasting, paint ball, air parks, quad biking,
Golf: There are some great golf courses in the area with four courses being within a 30 kilometer distance.
