Spacious Apartment In Bloomsbury, Walking Distance To City & West End. Sleeps 5.

Photos and Description of this Bloomsbury holiday apartment

Ideal for family. Russell Square tube, bus or walk to London's best attractions

The apartment occupies the top two floors of a Georgian townhouse in Bloomsbury, a quiet, elegant corner of central London, close to Russell Square, Kings Cross-St Pancras and Chancery Lane tube stations. You are in the centre of London, close enough to walk to most of the places you'll want to visit, short bus or tube rides to other tourist must-sees, but this is a quiet, secure part of town with little night time traffic or noise. The most common phrases in our visitor's book are 'great location' and 'we'll be back'.

Built in the 1790s, this historic building boasts all the luxuries of a modern home, including a fully-equipped kitchen (washer/drier for clothes, dishwasher, oven, hob, microwave, fridge/freezer plus lots of pots, pans and utensils for cooking), satellite TV and DVD player, free wi-fi, power shower and modern bathroom.

The spacious living room is light and airy with two large sofas plus a chair that converts into a comfortable single bed. The TV has multiple satellite channels including Sky Sports & Sky Cinema and there are speakers for your MP3 player, a dvd player and a few DVDs. Our bookshelf is stuffed with books which feature London. guidebooks for London and maps for you to take with you as you explore the city. We also have a few toys for young children and games. Two large sash windows with Georgian wooden shutters look out to the historic street below.

The adjoining kitchen is light, spacious and has a dining table and six chairs. It has everything you would expect in a modern kitchen; oven, hob, large refrigerator, separate freezer, dishwasher, washing machine (with tumble drier function), microwave oven, kettle, toaster and two coffee makers. The kitchen has plenty of crockery and cutlery, cooking utensils, baking trays, saucepans, a wok, pots, pans and everything you need to make a family supper and eat in. We also have a flask and some sandwich boxes for you to make lunch and take it out with you (ideal if you are feeding a family).

A short but steep flight of stairs leads up to two bedrooms and a bathroom. The bathroom has a bath and separate shower, with plentiful hot water. The basin has a mirror over it and the heated towel rail keeps the bathroom warm and cosy.

The large master bedroom has a king-size double bed and a single bed with large wardrobe, feature mirror and Victorian chest of drawers. It can sleep three people, but is usually used for two adults.

The second bedroom has two single beds (adult sized) with Victorian chest of drawers, hanging space for clothes and mirror. Both bedrooms have 'black-out' blinds so that you are not woken by early morning sun.

A cot and highchair are available on request. Bed linen and towels included.

A hairdryer, an iron and ironing board are provided, along with an umbrella.

A good choice of restaurants are within a 5 minute walk and there is a large Waitrose supermarket 10 minutes walk away in The Brunswick Shopping Centre. A smaller Co-Op supermarket is a convenient 3 minute walk.

This is an ideal holiday home for a family or friends looking to explore London from a central base.

John Street is a six minute walk from Russell Square tube station (subway) or Chancery Lane tube station. We are a 15 minute walk to Kings Cross-St Pancras stations (tube and Eurostar trains to France). We will send you full directions when you book. Just let us know which airport or train station you arrive at.

Getting Here - Air: It is an easy journey from London Heathrow Airport to John St, as the local tube (subway or underground) station runs directly to the airport. From there it's a 6 minute walk to the apartment. From other London airports (Gatwick, Stansted, Luton or City airports), you can take the train into the centre of London and make a short tube or taxi journey to the apartment. We will send you full directions when you book.

Getting Here - Rail: John St is a fifteen minute walk from the mainline stations, Kings Cross and St Pancras International where the Eurostar service from Paris, Lille and Brussels now departs. Euston Station is a few minutes further away. It is a short bus ride from London Bridge and Waterloo stations. Paddington is a tube ride away.

No hidden extras: Price quoted includes VAT (sales tax), bed linen, towels and cleaning. There are no hidden extras to pay to the property owner.

UPDATE: January 2016 - we have updated our wi-fi connection and we now have faster wifi (35mbps) in the living room, kitchen and also upstairs in the bedrooms.

ALLERGY SUFFERERS: we have blinds (no curtains), wooden floors in the bedrooms (the only carpet is in the hallway) and can supply feather-free bedding on request.

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING? - we have six sleeping places but as we only have one bathroom we do not let the apartment to six people. If you are a party of five, please state if you would prefer to have three people sharing the largest bedroom (in one double and one single bed) OR one person sleeping in the living room. We will only make up beds for the number of people you tell us are staying.

If you have any questions about the apartment, the local area or London generally, please get in touch by email or phone.

About Melissa Mackey

This apartment is owned by Electric Marketing, a database marketing company set up in 1991 by Melissa Mackey. Electric Marketing's offices are on the ground and first floors of the building, the apartment is on the second and third floors. You will share a front door and hallway with our office team during weekdays, but no one will visit the apartment during your stay unless you come down to the ground floor and ask us for help. This means that there is always someone on site to help you if you have any problems eg light bulb needs replacing or something is broken. Equally we are aware that most people want to be allowed to enjoy their holiday in private and we won't visit unless there is a serious issue that needs to be fixed. If you have a problem at the weekend, our contact phone numbers are in a black folder of useful information in the living room.

Why Melissa Mackey chose Camden & Covent Garden

There is no doubt that John Street in Bloomsbury is a smart part of town, close to Grays Inn and full of barristers' chambers and legal firms. As well as the lawyers, our near neighbours are the Charles Dickens Museum, noted actors and artists as well as the ITV news studios on Grays Inn Road.

John Street and adjoining Doughty Street are steeped in history as these houses have stood for 250 years.

It is a safe and secure part of London, walking distance to the West End and to the City of London, close to shops and restaurants and yet quiet at night so that you can sleep easily.

If you are coming to London for reasons other than pleasure, John Street is walking distance from Great Ormond Street Hospital, University College Hospital, British Library, London School of Economics and University College London.

Bloomsbury apartment

  • 5 of 5

We recently spent 6 days at this apartment and found it excellent. It was great having a kitchen given prices in London and the supermarket is quite close. The beds were really confortable and it was a quiet retreat at the end of the day. We had our 3 children with us and found the apartment much roomier than I expected. The owners were helpful and let us stay until 2.00pm on the day we were leaving. Just be warned that there quite a lot of steps!

Great apartment and Great location

  • 5 of 5

Very spacious apartment in great location. We all loved it. I highly recommend. There are great pubs and restaurants nearby and you can walk to most central places in minutes. We only caught public transport once and we went to the City, Borough, Covent Garden, Seven Dials, Oxford Street/Regent St etc

Excellent stay!

  • 4 of 5

Our host was very responsive, and the flat is lovely. Very clean and spacious. The location was perfect for our needs. It was great to be near 2 tube lines. Only negatives-WiFi could have been better, as we found it only worked well in the kitchen, but not a big issue. Also, we learned to space out our showers so as not to run out of hot water. Overall a great stay and I would recommend. Thanks for your hospitality

Fantastic place and very central

  • 5 of 5

The apartment was absolutely fantastic and very centrally located. It was quite easy to find and the apartment was nice and clean. We stayed a week and found that the location was perfect for the many things we wanted to see. We are a family of five with three children aged 7, 12 and 15. Nice places for take away too. We had African, Indian, Chinese, British (fish and Chips) and American (papa Johns pizza).

The only thing was really poor wifi. On the top floor we didn't get any connection at all. Downstairs the wifi only worked in the kitchen and very poorly. So if you need Internet connection this apartment is not recommended at all.

Great flat for exploring London with a family

  • 5 of 5

We spent more than a week at the flat, and it was the perfect place for us and our 3 kids to start the day and to come back to after exploring the city. It has pretty much everything you need to feel at home—full kitchen, wifi, washing machine, a cell phone to borrow. It's spacious, secure, and well maintained. Melissa is very helpful and quick to respond to any questions. The location is convenient and close to a couple of Tube stops as well as several bus routes. It's also within walking distance to many locations and destinations. The immediate neighborhood is quiet but includes a bunch of good places to eat and shop, as well as Coram's Fields, a kids-only park. Highly recommended if you're looking for something more private than an AirBNB and more homey than a hotel.

Great family sized apartment centrally located

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was great for our family of five (children aged 13, 11, 9). It was neat and spacious, which was very welcome at the end of a long trip in hotel rooms and smaller sized apartments. We stayed for 3 weeks and were very comfortable.

The apartment had everything we needed to self cater, Foxtel and WiFi. The one downside was that the WiFi connection did tend to drop out occasionally and sometimes could be difficult to connect to.

The apartment was quite centrally located. We used the tube mostly to get around. Chancery Lane on the Central Line was just a 5 minute walk away and very convenient. Russell Square on the Piccadilly Line was just a 5 minute walk in the other direction. There was also a great Waitrose supermarket and shopping centre at Russell Square, and heaps of other shops, restaurants and pubs nearby. Kings Cross / Pancras Eurostar rail station was only a 10-15 minute walk. Euston Station and a car rental agency was only 15-20 mins walk.

The British Museum was only a 5-10 mins walk away and the Charles Dickens museum was just down the road. All other attractions, you would probably want to catch a tube or bus, although we did walk down to Oxford Street a couple of times.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking time to review our apartment. I am so glad that you had a great time. We have fixed the Wi-Fi problem now and hope that it is available 24/7 for guests. Other attractions within a 30 minute walk include St Paul's Cathedral in the City of London to the east; the Millennium Bridge which leads to art gallery Tate Modern and the South Bank arts complex to the south; Covent Garden for a mix of quirky and high-end stores, restaurants and street theatre and the small but pretty much perfect Sir John Soane Musuem in Lincolns Inn Fields are to the south west. But even on a three week holiday, there is never enough time to walk everywhere and see everything. I hope you and your family will come back to London one day.

This apartment is on the second and third floor of a 200-year old house. If you have difficulty with stairs, it really isn't suitable as there are two flights to the entrance and a further flight to the bedrooms. Please try not to bring a car, the parking in London is awful. Public transport is excellent with underground (tube) stations Russell Square and Chancery Lane both 7 mins walk away. Buses are 3 mins walk away and of course, famous London black taxicabs are always available. You can walk to Covent Garden, St Pauls and many of the major sites, shops and entertainment in the West End. There is no outside space with this property, but for children, at the end of the street there is Coram's Fields, a delightful park with swings, slides, sand pit, farm animals and astroturf football pitches. For adults, Russell Square is a pleasant green space with a café, fountains and wildlife to provide a respite from life in Europe's largest city.
