Remarkable property overlooking a vigrant city

  • 5 of 5

Other reviewers had written warmly about the owners of this outstanding property. Unfortunately they were out of town during our visit. We were greeted by one of Françoise's friends. Our disappointment turned to wonder as we exited the main house and entered the vast property that drops off toward the Saone affording spectacular views of the city. We were allowed to use parts of both apartments--thank you! The unit facing the Saone, having a kitchenette, was our home base; we appreciated being able to prepare both breakfast and occasional dinners at home. The street, Montée St Laurent, is just a ten minute walk to the shops at St Just, the neighborhood on the top of the hill. That was very convenient. The property is also an easy walk into town and the funicular back to St. Just got us back up to our part of Lyon without the effort of the hard climb. Lyon is a must-visit place with museums, restaurants (!), and neighborhoods old and new that we enjoyed exploring. Being foodies, we have already placed Lyon on our short list of cities to revisit.

Relaxing oasis in Lyon

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I had a wonderful week-long stay at La Laurentine. The guest house had everything we needed for a comfortable visit and the surrounding gardens are beautiful. We had breakfast each morning on our terrace overlooking the City and it was easy to walk into Lyon for the day. Francoise and Frank were very helpful when we had questions about what to do in the area and overall were incredible hosts. We had a rental car and took some amazing trips into the nearby wine regions. We were always able to find a parking spot on the street. Lyon was easily the favorite place we visited in our three weeks in France and a lot of that was because of our lovely accommodations.

Beautiful property & warm owners

  • 5 of 5

I recently stayed with my husband at the Laurentine and it was simply stunning. Our place was perfectly clean and beautifully decorated. The garden was in full bloom and had a great view of Lyon and we were even greeted by the owner's cat, Tom-Tom. We were able to walk down the hill 15 minutes to old town and take the incline (part of their metro) back up the hill for a small cost. In the morning, we had a breakfast of an assortment of bread and yogurt and then got back on the road. I only wish I could have stayed longer!

Comfortable home with a lovely view and lovelier hostess

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent 4 days of our honeymoon at the Laurentine and absolutely loved it. The flat is very comfortable, with a simple kitchenette and spacious bathroom, an amazing view and is within walking distance of the Lyon city center. The hostess Franciose was just lovely; she brought us breakfast each morning, was always available for questions or advice, and when we got out dates mixed up she very kindly allowed us to stay an extra day at the last minute. I have already raved about the Laurentine to our family and friends, and would strongly recommend it to anyone traveling in the area.

Lovely, old stately home on steep slope leading down to river.

  • 5 of 5

Francoise was a gracious host and our room, which was in a separate building on the lowest level, was lovely. Our weather was excellent and we explored the grounds that terraced steeply down the hill. Walked into the center of town and then crossed the bridge into the Old City. Had a fabulous early dinner (hard to find in Europe!) at Le Palais St Jean. Absolutely no complaints. Would stay here again.

Cozy with gorgeous view

  • 5 of 5

We had a lovely stay in our little guest house "La Laurentine." Francoise, the owner, is so friendly and helpful -- not to mention a great cook. Do opt for breakfast; it's wonderful. We are two women friends, so the little guest house with two twin beds was perfect for us. It was very well equipped, with a lot of little amenities most people wouldn't think of but Francoise did. She even had guidebooks and maps for us. She went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. One day we wanted to get massages, and she called around, found a place that would take two people at once, and arranged the whole thing. Another time our taxi (which she called for us) was late and she spent a lot of time calling the taxi people and making sure we were not late to our dinner reservations. Beds were excellent, shower comfortable (no tub in our little unit) with good water pressure, and the view of Lyon at night was spectacular. It's a hike up the hill from the river, so if you don't have a car be willing to take taxis or the bus, or be in very good walking shape.
