Beautiful craftsmanship
This home is rustic built with beautiful craftsmanship. The second floor is open at to the beams they support the roof. I am good with construction styles, but beam work in this home is truly beautiful . The walls that separate the rooms on the second floor do not go all the way up to the walls to show case this impressive work . The first floor is open, the kitchen is well equipped , the deck outside is large and comfortable . It is a bit of a walk to the private beach. The public beach entrance is a very short drive away. There are houses very close by. It is close to sturgeon bay for any needs you have. Very close to 2 parks .

Had a wonderful time.
We had a wonderful 5 day stay. Our hostess was very communicative and helpful. The location could not have been nicer. We were steps from the beach. Places you could sit on the beach were limited but within a few minutes walk and perfect for kids. If you are beach walker as we were there was no limitation to access. The home was very comfortable and spacious and had everything we needed. I would happily stay again.

About the host

Host profile image
We are a family of 8 (which include 3 grandchildren). We love outdoor activities Door County has to offer - hiking, kayaking, biking, climbing, swimming, antiquing, and exploring. Our home is filled with antiques, folk art and original oil paintings. We continually add special touches to the home. On the outside of the house under each of the eves are hand carved finials.

I grew up in Northwest Illinois and vacationed in Wisconsin with my sisters and brother. We always loved the water and outdoor activites. As children, my kids loved playing on the beach or in the woods. As they have grown, they still do the same - it's a place to be young again! The grandchildren are following in the same foot steps, by enjoying the water, learning about and appreciating nature. My dogs love swimming and running on the beach - it is their favorite part of coming up to Whitefish Bay.

The Prancing Pony has become a special place where our family gathers to get away, explore, play games, do crafts, cook and laugh A LOT! There are several hiking trails accessible on foot from the home, including a trail into Whitefish Bay Dunes State Park at the end of the deadend street, Old Baldy (with wooden platforms and a overlook platform), incrediable single track biking trails near the home, and kayaking right from the pier (4 doors down).

Why they chose this property

When my children were small we used to camp in Door County. It was the perfect place that was close to home with everything we needed - outdoor activities, great beaches and a place to relax. I would take the kids to Whitefish Dunes State Park where they would swim and participate in the kids activities run by the park. We would look down the beach and imagine what it would be like to have property 'down there'. When the the opportunity presented itself to buy a home, I looked all around the Peninsula, found this home and knew it was the one. It reminded me of Switzerland and I instantly fell in love with the craftsmanship and charm of the home, not to mention the area.

Named from Lord of the Rings, The Prancing Pony was a safe haven and place for all walks of life to gather. Our family considers the home to be that special place where all can gather for a peaceful get away. I have been blessed with this beautiful home and love the chance to share it with family, friends and vacationers -- extended friends.

Please sign our guest book and tell us about your trip. I love reading about your adventures.

What makes this property unique

You will love the craftsmanship of the open beam structure and love that went into building this home by the original owner who was a carpenter. The home is filled with antiques, folk art and original oil paintings.

We love going to bed listening to the waves and waking up in the morning looking at the beautiful architecture. It is so relaxing to sit on the large porch and read a book or stare up at the night sky and watch for satellites and falling stars. We take walks several times a day down the beach, down the street or on the many trails in the state park. People of all ages and their dogs love the beach -- there's simply nothing like it. The sandbars make it a lot of fun to walk way out and only be knee deep. The lake is different each day and ever day is a new adventure.

Bed linens and towels are provided, unlike properties managed by other rental companies.
