About Chuck & Marie Damler

Marie and I built this home for us to use and enjoy. After allowing Marie's parents to live here for a few years we have decided to allow others to enjoy the beauty of the home and the tranquility of our property. Spend the weekend or the week with us and you will feel the difference.

Chuck & Marie Damler purchased this cabin in 2009

What makes this cabin unique

The home is semi private, the area seems secluded yet you are still close to shopping, theatre, entertainment, zoo, water park etc. You have use of our 3 acre lake in conjunction with the guests from The Cottage at Natural Valley Ranch as well as access to our trails the new B&O rail to trail byway and horseback riding while you are here.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Marie-Chuck,

Vacation was enjoyed by all - needed vacation for sure.

We are also in the process of blending my daughters husbands kids into the Connor family so a week of one on one was great for them and all of us - a vacation no one will forget for sure.

Many new things this past week - none have ever fished or canoed or been on any type of boat either so many new experiences for Paul (daughters husband) and kids this week.

Location - 2hrs form us was perfect - the house, lake, woods - Petting zoo and horse back riding was all just wonderful.

Thank you, so much.

The Connor Family.

More then we could have hoped for !!!!!!

  • 5 of 5

We used the facility for a church retreat and meeting with a sister church, Bethesda in Brownsburg. What a blessing. Our friends in Brownsburg that came to see us said "this is the best kept secret in this town". They will be renting from you for some of their retreats as a result. We came from Hollywood Ca., what a culture shock it was for us. A few of our people rode horses for the first time in their lives. Thank you and God bless

Overall relaxing family weekend

  • 3 of 5

Overall, we had a great weekend with our kids and grandkids. There was plenty of space, plenty of bedspace and the setting was peaceful. The kitchen was extremely well stocked and easy to cook in.

That said, there were several items that could have used improvement or require guest consideration.

- The quality of pillows, linens, and mattresses was pretty bad. A few complained that their sheets had a mildewed smell.

- Some towels also had a mildewed smell as well. My husband had a plainly dirty towel in the master bath.

- The basement rec room carpeting was absolutely filthy and in dire need of cleaning.

- The

- Others who've noted the home construction were completely accurate. The stairs to the upper and lower levels are open and the planks to the upper level are more natural which makes them uneven. The railings are challenging to reach. Although we had 2 two year olds with us, we had 9 adults to watch them. It's definitely something to consider with small children.

- As others mentioned, the walls do not go to the ceiling. Once someone is up, the whole house is up.

- The construction is poor overall with poor finishing touches. The dry wall at the ceilings isn't finished and has jagged cut lines, there are nails sticking out of a wall in the lower level, a nearly destroyed box fan was in a bedroom in the basement, the ceiling fans barely moved air.

Of homes we've rented in the same price point, this one didn't have the quality touches we expected and have recieved in other homes.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review of your stay at our Cabin. We do appreciate all comments that are given. We also understand everyone have different perceptions and points of view that are specific to them. We do not pretend to be a hotel or an event space that has the staff to attend to every little detail. What we do provide is a peaceful, natural, spacious, lived in cabin for our guests to enjoy their time together while being surrounded by the beauty nature has to offer. The open concept of our cabin main floor and the upper floor was a design choice to showcase the beautiful Southern Indiana white pine logs and views of the outside. The cabin is very sturdy and well constructed using Southern Indiana White Pine and trees harvested from our own land. There are pictures of the inside specifically so everyone can see the layout of the floors for themselves and make the decision themselves if it is right for their families. The mildew smell issue was investigated and corrected. There is an easily accessible linen closet in the master bathroom with extra towels and linens if needed. The basement carpeting is swept in between rentals but is currently stained from previous guests and is scheduled to be cleaned. Other maintenance of the cabin is scheduled for our slower winter times. We live on the property, we work the property, we maintain the property. Chuck & Marie Damler

in early September 2017, Rhodes family members stayed at The Cabin at Natural Valley Ranch over a wedding weekend. It was a pleasant experience for all! The cabin was large enough to comfortably lodge our family, offered needed wheelchair access and first floor master suite, had plenty pots, pans, mixing bowls, and baking sheets to meet cooking/baking needs for a pre-wedding dinner; and offered entertainment in the form of multiple TVs, pool table, ping pong table, and paddle boats on the lake to provide entertainment.

Chuck & Marie Damler were good hosts and had the cabin cleaned and ready for us upon arrival. As promised, if we had a question or need, it only took a quick message or text to have a response. Their attentiveness was appreciated.

To accommodate a dinner for the family and an extended guest list of the bride's family, bridal party members, and out of town guests who were staying nearby, the Damlers showed us the Outpost, which we used for an additional fee. That facility's theme and room set-up met our needs amazingly well.

Thank you and take care.

Amazing cabin!

  • 5 of 5

My group of friends and I loved your cabin! We also spent a lot of time at the shelter by the water which was a great amenity, and e also loved the land and the water. The inside of the cabin was beautiful and the accommodations were excellent! This is definitely a place we would consider in the future!

Lots of Pluses, but too many minuses

  • 3 of 5

Pros: Lake for Fishing and Swimming

Con: No oars for the row boat and no life jackets. The oars were destroyed by another group and there is no intention to replace them.

Pros: Size and amenities of the house - kitchen was well stocked

Cons: The only places where the walls go all the way to the ceiling are in the basement, so if you have small children, sound is a problem.

Also, the floors were not cleaned well, the one medal bed frame was turned around backwards and one guy tore his leg open on it. The biggest con was that the water smell and color was offensive. I did a little investigation and discovered the water softener tank had no salt in it. If the softener was working, I believe the water would have been significantly better.

The wrap around porch was very nice. The internet worked well.

The house had a couple curio cabinets and bookshelves which didn't seem child friendly.

The house was nice, but less than I had expected.

Owner's Response: We do often replace the oars on the row boats and just as quickly they are destroyed by the guests. We currently have 5 canoe paddles and the oars for the row boats were just replaced. We have replaced them twice this year. We have never nor do we intend to provide life jackets. This is clearly stated on our VRBO policy. We do try and keep up on salt for the water softener. But sometimes we do make a mistake and miss things. We are very responsive to our guest's requests and usually within a few hours have the problem resolved. All of our contact information is readily available and we are just a phone call away. We take pride in the beauty and furnishing of the cabin. We understand that not all guests will agree with the way we have designed or decorated the home. Small children do have to be supervised when staying, as they should be in any unfamiliar environment.
