About this property

The Granary at Owl Moon Farm

The Granary at Owl Moon Farm is a charming family getaway nestled in the mountains just minutes from Lexington, Virginia. With its idyllic location on our historic 100 acre farm, our guest cottage provides a unique setting that is perfect for your visit to the scenic Shenandoah Valley. The Granary was originally constructed in the early 1900's and was operated for many years as part of a turn-of-the-century farm. It was completely renovated in 2007 to provide all of the modern comforts and conveniences of a mountain farm retreat, but with its exposed, hand-hewn beams, rough-sawn boards, and broad expanses of windows, it retains a unique and historic charm all its own.

Amenities
The Granary is perfect for families, comfortably sleeping 7+ people. There are two bedrooms, each with a queen-sized bed, and in the living room, a queen-sized sleeper sofa and a twin-sized daybed. The lower-level bedroom has queen-sized platform bed, luxury bedding, walk-in closet, reading nook and direct access to the private rear deck. The upstairs bedroom has a queen-sized bed, luxury bedding and an antique dresser. There is a queen-sized sleeper sofa in the great room and a twin-sized day bed with memory foam mattress in a sleeping alcove of the great room - both are great for kids! There is plenty of room for a travel crib or an air mattress; there is no charge for children under 18 years old.

Located on the lower level of this unique cottage are two half bathrooms. One bathroom features a one-of-a-kind shower/tub combination, antique marble sink, radiant panel heating and a high efficiency washer and dryer. The other has a Todo toilet and sink.

The kitchen is large, bright and fully equipped with a coffee maker, toaster, microwave and gas range. For your stay, we provide delicious, organic BOLD3 coffee, and an assortment of teas and sweeteners, including local honey. Overlooking two of our smaller pastures and a large historic barn is a sun-filled dining nook with built-in seating under an antique bay window.

The living area is a spacious great room with vaulted 20' ceilings and original exposed post and beams. Free WiFi, 40" Smart TV with Blu-ray player, DVD collection, numerous games, puzzles and books are also provided.

The spacious and private deck reaches over a rock-strewn stream. There is a stainless steel gas grill for your use and plenty of seating for relaxing, star-gazing and listening to the evening calls of the many owls that make their home in the surrounding forest.

Weekend Stay for VMI Visit
The Granary provided the perfect counterbalance to a busy VMI football game weekend. Peaceful setting, beautiful starlit sky at night, bright sunshine coming in the many windows, comfortable bedding. A cozy respite after the hullabaloo of the tailgate and game.

Spectacular Visit
We visited the Kerr’s Creek for our daughter’s graduation and loved it! Tripp and Becky were delightful. The pictures of Granary do nothing to describe the peace and beauty of this location. We thoroughly enjoyed the farm pups, animals and Becky’s famous sourdough bread and cinnamon rolls. So convenient to Lexington yet, a beautiful retreat from the festivities we had that weekend. We will be back for our daughter’s wedding in 2025!

We are proud stewards of this little slice of Virginia.

Why they chose this property

We searched for well over 2 years and visited hundreds of farms in the mountains of Virginia before finding 'the one.' Owl Moon Farm, as it is now known, has truly become our family farm. We immediately fell in love with the pastoral seclusion, admired the history of the main home, the barns and the Granary guest cottage and were simply in awe of mountain views. Although the farm is in a lovely, private location, we are less than 15 minutes from the historic city of Lexington where we have discovered several fine dining restaurants, a couple of excellent diners and cafes and numerous locally-owned shops. We are truly blessed to be a part of a thriving small American town and community and thank God every day for the opportunity to live and work on this magnificent property.

What makes this property unique

The Granary has a charming and unique history all its own. The conversion of a 100+ year-old operational granary that was once an integral part of the community to a guest cottage was accomplished in a manner that remained true to its heritage while still adding the conveniences to enhance the stay of any modern traveler.
