About this property

Peace and tranquility among the trees, with breathtaking views of the sea.

Lakonia remains a secret gift to travels who are searching for a taste of a simpler time. Away from the city and the village, our property offers space, peace and tranquility. Each house has lovely views of the sea, outside entertainment areas, as well as gardens and small caves to wonder and explore. Here, the sound of traffic is replaced by the steady hum of cicadas, and large eucalypts and pines offer generous shade from the bright Mediterranean sun. We have created Sun and Sea Villas as a welcoming and friendly place where you can escape and and relax among the olive groves.

The kitchen opens up to a beautiful courtyard, and the house has a side patio and a front verandah with sea views.

Fantastic location, plenty of space, quite secluded...
Greek Blue Sea Villas include three houses (very well thought out in terms of privacy!) situated in a very large uphill yard. The property has well integrated buildings, parking space and a rock garden in which natural and man-made parts mingle beautifully. The yard - in spite of being little attended to - is very appealing, with eukalypti, carob and orange trees, vines, bees, lizzards, etc. Generous outdoor space (terraces) for any time of the day. The yard/garden/terraces are so appealing that very often you do not feel the need to go out. However, there are some things about this property that you should know before you decide to rent it. 1) Car is absolutely necessary. You will need it even for reaching the bakery or the nearest beach. Also, the nearest shop is in Neapoli (10 km). 2) The property is outside the village of Vikglafia, in a quite secluded place, with no public illumination. The yard is also not lit so you'd better bring a strong flashlight with you. 3) The place is not suitable for toddlers or for elderly people, as the flight of stairs in the garden or to the terraces are rather steep and rocky. 4) Watch out for your belongings (cash, cards, passports); better not leave valuable things in the house while you are away. The house we stayed in was broken into and all our cash was stolen. We are grateful to the burglars that they did not take our credit cards and passports... After this episode we wanted to leave but we liked too much the place. 5) There is no reliable WiFi/internet connection. 6) The village of Vikglafia may not be too picturesque (numerous unfinished or deserted houses!) but it is certainly much better than the cramped Elafonissos. Also it has splendid wild sandy beaches with pristine waters. In conclusion, the place is awesome, large and airy, and a good headquarter for exploring the beautiful spots around. But try to gather a larger group (the more the merrier!) or the place may feel a little unsecure!

About the host

Hosted by George Melidonis

Host profile image
Not unlike most of our guests, Kasia and I have long dreamed of a place in the country. We chose Viglafia as it reminds me of the Greece of my youth. Here time has not moved as it has in the rest of the world. Fresh vegetables are still bought from stalls on the side of small roads. The butcher and baker have not yet been completely replaced by the supermarket. Houses, shops and even the people are quiet and unassuming. Most importantly, nature abounds and the sea is crystal in all its seasonal moods and shades. We love to share this area and are very pleased to be your hosts. We also enjoy cooking, reading, surfing, fishing and of course, conversations with new friends from around the world.

What makes this property unique

The property is surrounded by olive groves and sits upon a hill with wonderful views of the Laconian Gulf and the island of Elafonisos. The ferry to the island is 1km from the houses and just beyond it, is 14km of white sand beach and the sunken bronze age city of Pavlopetri. The small village of Viglafia is 300m from the houses and has some nice country restaurants, as well as an old coffee shop and numerous summer rentals. The town of Neapoli is 15km from the property and offers shops, supermarkets, restaurants, coffee shops and the ferry to Kythira. This is a quiet and wonderful place to relax. It is far enough away from the town and village as to feel private and peaceful, yet close enough so that you can still enjoy modern conveniences.
