JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT

At Jamestown Settlement, prepare to embark on a journey to 17th-century Virginia. The world of America's first permanent English colony, founded in 1607 -- 13 years before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts, comes to life through film, gallery exhibits and outdoor living history.

Expansive gallery exhibit and introductory film describe the cultures of the Powhatan Indians, Europeans and Africans who converged in 1600s Virginia and trace Jamestown's beginnings in England and the first century of the Virginia colony.

Outdoors, board replicas of the three ships that sailed from England to Virginia in 1607, and explore life-size re-creations of the colonists' fort and a Powhatan Village In the outdoor areas, costumed historical interpreters describe and demonstrate daily life in the early 17th century.
Dine at the Jamestown Settlement Café and shop in museum stores. A variety of admission tickets and vacation packages are available with Williamsburg area attractions.

This unique museum of 17th-century American history and culture is located adjacent to the entrance of the original site, Historic Jamestowne administered by the National Park Service and the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation (on behalf of Preservation Virginia).

YORKTOWN VICTORY CENTER

Next to the battlefield where allied American and French forces won the decisive battle of the American Revolution in 1781, the Yorktown Victory Center chronicles the entire Revolutionary period, from colonial unrest to the formation of the new nation.

At this museum of the American Revolution indoor exhibition gallery portray the Declaration of Independence as a revolutionary document that attracted international attention, recount the war's impact on 10 ordinary men and women who left a record of their experiences, highlight the roles of different nationalities at the Siege of Yorktown, and explore the story of the Betsy and other British ships lost in the York River during the siege. Exhibits also describe how people from many different cultures shaped a new society and the development of a new government with the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Outdoors, visitors can explore a re-created Continental Army Encampment where historical interpreters describe and depict daily life of American soldiers at the end of the war. A re-created 1780s farm complete with a house, kitchen, tobacco barn, crop fields, and herb and vegetable garden, shows how many Americans lived during the Revolutionary era.

Work is now underway on a new facility, new exhibition galleries and enhanced outdoor interpretive areas. The Yorktown Victory Center will remain open to visitors throughout construction. When the project is complete in late 2016, the site will be known as the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown.

Week at Williamsburg Plantation
Enjoyed our stay! Fun activities pool side during the holiday weekend made it even more enjoyable. Beds were ok, but after the first couple nights, was looking forward to our own bed. Didn't understand such a nice condo not including a stove, nor was it particularly clear in the listing, but we made the best of it with the hot plate and microwave provided. Location was perfect for our needs! Would definitely consider the WilliamsburgPlantation if our travels ever bring us back to the area.
