The 6 apartments are built into the south facing wing of a 17th century Italian Villa and 400 acre working arable farm called Palazzo Rosso (the Red Palace). The 400 year old building has just been completely and lovingly restored, retaining all original features, beams, solid stone walls, fireplaces etc. There is a 300 square metre 10 metre high beamed barn for guest use, paved with local stone. A 13.5x6 metre pool was installed in the spring 2008. There are extensive gardens for guests on both sides of the building, as well as an orchard and courtyard animals (horse, ponies, sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, turkeys, ducks, rabbits and dogs).

The building faces south and has views out over our farmland, with a river and the Colli Berici hills to the west side, the Villa courtyard garden to the north side and our 15 acres of Vineyards to the east.

Places to visit: The historic town Vicenza is only 17km from the farm & there is a cycle track to the centre for approximately 9km. The Berici hills are only 2km from the farm, where there are many hiking & biking tracks as well as an area famous for climbing called Lumignano. The spa towns of Abano & Montegrotto Terme are only 25km away.

Further afield: Venice is 65km which is a one hour drive away, or a one hour train ride from Vicenza. Verona is 65km which is a one hour drive away, Padova 30km which is a half an hour drive away. Lake Garda is 100km way & easily accessible by motorway. The Altopiano of Asiago & skiing at 2000m are only 70km away. Florence is a two & a half hour drive away

More Information about the property: The apartments can all be rented separately or together for larger groups.

Upon request it is possible to rent out a 110 square metre communal room with kitchen and bathroom situated next to the apartments.

The apartments have access to a first floor 140 square metre 6 metre high open plan communal room.

The apartments have use of a communal laundry room with a washing machine, two washing sinks, clothes drying facilities, ironing board and iron.

About Philip Frankland

Hi I am Phil. My wife Silvy and I have owned and managed our 400 acre farm since 1992 when I moved to Italy from the UK. We started to rent out one apartment in 2002 and enjoyed having people around so much that we decided to restore a huge old 17th century barn and farm house which we turned into 6 holiday rental apartments.

Philip Frankland purchased this farmhouse in 1991

Why Philip Frankland chose Vicenza

We were lucky enough to inherit Palazzo Rosso Farm from my wife Silvy's family.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Our guests love to come and stay at Palazzo Rosso because they can enjoy the benefits of being close to many beautiful places such as Venice, Verona, Padova, Mantova and Vicenza and at the same time when they want to relax they can sit back and enjoy the farm location and beautiful surroundings at Palazzo Rosso.

Guestbook comments from the manager

The apartment was very comfortable, perfect for a family with small children. The satellite TV, DVD player & stereo made life easier when it rained. The kitchen was very well equipped and there were lots of great places to go out for dinner, the Italians all take their children out with them which was a nice change and made our evenings much more enjoyable.

There were lots of places to go and visit close by, we stayed for nearly two weeks and still didn't get to see everything.

We had a great time staying over new year, we even joined in a local new years party which was great fun.

looking forward to coming back soon.

Henry, Caroline, Sarah & Freya Iddon. Blackpool, England.

Comfortable, nice showers, enough towels, good beds, very complete kitchen.

Nice surroundings, beautiful hills, well located to the A4 highway.

We like the fire outside.

You've been very helpful and kind.

We like the fresh eggs !!

Palazzo Rosso, highlight of the Venetian villas

  • 5 of 5

Palazzo Rosso proved an ideal choice for the 10-day tour of Palladian villas we had come for. By the time a week had gone by, we realized there were plenty of other things to do in the area: take the bicycle path to Vicenza or discover the backroads (hardly any traffic if you keep off the main road), hike in the Berici Hills ( we tried one tour guided by an Italian guide book we found in the apartment, half guessing what important trail marks the Italian words meant- but we made it!) Coming back from our tours in the evening, it was nice to take a dip in the pool and relax under the arcades, chatting with other guests staying at Palazzo Rosso. Phil and Silvy were always bustling about somewhere and willing to answer our questions. Thankyou for the fresh eggs ( if you boil them, the yolks separate to form little yellow balls- weird!) We admired the tremendous task Phil and Silvy completed in transforming the palazzo wing into apartments that combine traditional masonry and woodwork with modern furnishing. A truly pleasant place to spend a vacation. Recommendable for all kinds of people looking for a holiday home in the area.

Owner's Response: We are always happy that our guests enjoy there time here on the farm. Cornelia and family brought their own bikes with them (although we have bikes available for our guests to use) and spent most of their time off the beaten track, which is one of the best pastimes. Ciao Phil and Silvy

One of the best places I stayed at

  • 5 of 5

A pleasant house in a great location.

The apartment was very nice and in addition to it the children used the pool and the great playing room and took the free bicycles that are at the place and travel around.

The place is located few minutes from the highway with an easy access to Venice , Verona etc. But it is steel in a nice and rural area.

The hosts help us with all that was needed and gave us a lot of helpful information about the area.

To summarize , highly commanded.

Lovely holiday at Palazzo Rosso.

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay in apartment 2 at Palazzo Rosso. There are six spacious apartments in this superbly renovated building...traditional features have been retained and they blend beautifully with the modern facilities provided. We loved the portico....sitting comfortably outside our apartment in the shade and enjoying the sun shining on the garden, and playing an occasional game of table-tennis! The large gardens are attractive and very well maintained, and the swimming pool is lovely. The views are amazing. Phil and Silvy are great hosts, very friendly but not intrusive. Their suggestions of places to visit were really helpful ...there is so much to see and do in the area and I am sure that we will return! Thank you Phil and Silvy for a great holiday!

Wunderschönes Anwesen und exzellente Gastgeber

  • 5 of 5

The Villa Palazzo Rosso is located near the village of Longare, in the hamlet of 'Ponte di Lumignano' at the foot of the Berici Hills (400 meters high). The local area is perfect for hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing. There are many local restaurants and wine producers where guests can enjoy the fantastic local dishes & taste the local wine. There is a cycle track which starts in Longare and winds all the way to the centre of Vicenza (14 kms).

There are many famous Palladian villas in the area which people from all over the world come to visit.

Palazzo Rosso Farm is a perfect starting point from which to visit all of the most famous historic cities such as Venice, Verona, Padova, Vicenza, Mantova, Ferrara as well as Bassano, Marostica and Asolo. All of these locations are well within and hours drive from the farm.

Other local attractions which our guests enjoy include wine tasting in the many local wine cellars, a Grana Padana cheese factory and shop and a local organic Olive oil prooducer.

Other Activities: Rock climbing, mountain biking and hiking in the 400 metre high Colli Berici hills
