About Joann Etienne (HN)

We were born and raised right here in Perry county. I was raised on a dairy farm and my husband, Phil was raised on a hog farm. We purchased this farm in 1972 and have lived here ever since. We raised 4 children here. My Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Mason Carter came to Perry County in 1813 from Kentucky. Phil's Great-Great-Great Grandfather, Jules Etienne came here from Florenville, Belguim in 1850. Perry County has been our family home for generations. We have made our livings on the land as farmers and woodsmen. We have a deep love for this area and an equally deep dedication to the natural resources that sustain rural life and provide such a unique atmosphere.

Joann Etienne (HN) purchased this house in 2014

Why Joann Etienne (HN) chose Indiana

Our son Robin built this home in 2002 with the intention of raising his family on his boyhood farm. Opportunity called them elsewhere and we bought his home. We have visitors here often to paint or just admire the view. It seemed like a no brainer to freshen the house up a little and use it as a guesthouse. Located in Perry county we have the same hilly landscape as Brown County but not the crowds.

What makes this house unique

Besides the unbelievable view if you have never experienced the utter joy of living high above the rest of the world on the very end of a ridge, with the only light at night from the sky and the only sounds coming from nature and you are in for a treat. If you are familiar with scenic Brown County you will fall in love with Perry County. The same beautiful landscape less the crowds plus the Ohio River.

Arnold family reunion

  • 5 of 5

Had a wonderful time. All 18 of us fit. (Could have used another bathroom.) The views were magnificent. (Our one country boy son-in-law was in heaven) The privacy was exceptional.

Joann was super. Thank you!

Breathtaking views, wonderful home, great amenities.

  • 5 of 5

The views from the house are spectacular. The home was very clean and well apportioned. The fish were biting every day. The pool was clean and cool which was great because it was close to 100 every day we were here. Plenty of room for the 14 of us.

Phil and Joanne were so hospitable.

Thank you for the use of your home.

Family vacation 2017!

  • 5 of 5

This property was beautiful. The house space was perfect for our family of 6 adults, 2 kids and a chocolate lab. The kitchen was fully stocked and there was plenty of room to cook and move around. The view was amazing and the property was very well maintained. Our kids (4 adults and 2 kids) love the pool and had a ton of fun catching fish in the pond. Joanne was very easy to work with, very friendly and offered some suggestions on things to do in the area. Would definitely recommend this to any family looking for a vacation spot!!

Wonderful Country Home

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying at this property. The home is warm and inviting with beautiful scenic views. The kids loved swimming in the pool and fishing at the pond. When the weather didn't cooperate, the internet and tv worked great. The owner's are very helpful and friendly. We will definitely come back to stay again!

Wild life abounds on this end of the farm. A pair of eagles nest 1/4 mile away. Sightings are fairly common until February at nesting time and on thru the summer when several daily sightings can be expected. Deer are in the fields morning and evening. Coyotes are seen often in the fields below the house hunting mice. Bird watching in pretty interesting as the hawks also hunt the fields. Since we are at the very end of Martin Ridge it feels like you are almost in the sky at night. With no interference from artificial lighting star gazing is pretty unbelievable. As you stare at the vastness of the night sky it is pretty well a guarantee that you will be serenated with the night sounds if owls and coyotes. Don't forget your binoculars and zoom lenses. If you are somewhat of a nature lover you will surly fall in love with Martin Ridge.
