About Karl

I am the proud parent of three awesome people. My eldest son, who's now 17 years old. Yikes! How'd that happen??? :-), and of course my twins, who are excelling in character.

I love capturing life in still form, therefore photography has been my second love for many years.

All-in-all, I believe that people are inherently good, and would like to enjoy life as much as possible. For those with whom I come in contact, I'd like to be a part of what makes your life enjoyable.

These are the qualities and priorities which defines me. Let's make your stay enjoyable.

Why Karl chose Truxton Circle

Few areas in DC truly put you this close to all of DC's attractions. This home has 2 train stops within half a mile and near-immediate access to a taxi or Uber to get you anywhere in minutes. And though our proximity to everything is a huge benefit, we've done everything to make the place feel like home.

Each bed has been covered with comfortable sheets and cozy blankets and pillows. The kitchen has modern stainless steel appliances and a full set of pots and pans to help you feel at home.

And if those things aren't enough, please let us know. We're anxious to make your stay as great as possible and earn your 5 star rating.

Guestbook comments from the owner

The home was clean beforehand. In spite of the major discount we provided, we didn't expect our home (bedding, dinning chairs, upholstery, etc) to be destroyed. We are disappointed and hope that no other homeowner has to experience the kind of out-of-pocket expense and mental anguish that we did. Thirteen people?! That's far more than any one hotel room can accommodate.

Cute house but way over priced - RENTERS BEWARE

  • 1 of 5

Took the family to DC to propose to my now fiance, for 2 nights cost nearly a grand, and was shocked at the condition of the house for the price payed. Being I was soon to be engaged, I didn't want to let it affect my proposal weekend but it did.

I get old houses have issues, and I've stayed in some rough places, but not for the money that was paid.

Please know that the below discrepancies are constructive feedback, with the sole purpose of providing information for you. I hope that you take this information with an open heart and are understanding. I'm not sure the last time you've been able to see the property hence such a comprehensive list, as I wanted to make sure you were aware of the current conditions.

- Water leak appears to be coming from Master Bathroom and drips water onto the kitchen table.

- Master bath Jacuzzi tub isn't sanitary due to mold build up in jets... With that much mold build up, there is likely mold on the interior of the jets and interior hoses (which is not visible).

- Mold buildup on caulk of showers. Showers need to be recaulked.

- Living room chaise - Big stain at the foot of the chaise.

- Guest Shower has standing water while showering. There is a back up somewhere in the drain/ pipes. I'm not a germaphobe but it felt very gross on my feet/ ankles when I showered as they felt slimy. Due to the leak in master bath and the back up on the guest shower, we waited until we came home to shower again. The slimy feeling stuff is likely coming from the floor mat that stays installed on the shower floor, or from the drain.

- Guest bathroom (2nd floor), has broken TP dispenser on vanity, a stand-up one has been put in its place.

- Guest Bathroom (2nd floor), the door lock is missing from the handle and lock is inoperable.

- Guest Bathroom (1st floor), with inoperable lock.

- Guest Bathroom (1st floor), the toilet is centered between the 2 walls, however, it is off by a 5-10 degree angle. Not problematic, however very awkward to use.

- Master bedroom door cannot be fully closed. On a night after a proposal, it would have been nice to have a master bedroom with a door that closed and locked!

- Guest bedroom (middle) Slat in bed is broken near the head of the bed. It is not noticeable until you remove the trundle bed from below, at which time once any weight is applied the entire mattress sinks down 12"

Blow up mattress (white), has a small leak and will not stinflated

Owner's Response: Thanks Jon, and I'm deeply sorry I didn't meet your expectations this go 'round. I want all prospective guests to know that all of the issues Jon highlighted were in the process of repair, and have at the time ALL of them have been addressed. House is back in tip-top condition! Unlucky timing for Jon, but his feedback is very much appreciated for the overall improvement of my home, allowing me to provide what I strive for which is the very best stay I can for my guests.

Karl was great start to finish. Had a conference at the Washington convention center and the property was close to that as well as everything else. My 3 little girls loved the house. Small market store right across the street with a very friendly owner. Overall great time had by all, thank you!!!!

Spacious, beautiful and comfortable!

  • 5 of 5

Karl's home was wonderful on all levels! Location was no more than 15 minutes away from our sightseeing stops, home itself was beautiful and comfortable, perfect amount of space for two small families like ours (4 adults, 3 children ages 7, 8, and 9). Nothing too fragile in the home to make us concerned about having our kiddos there. Towels and clean linen (even robes and slippers) were provided and we felt completely at home!

Only slight challenge is parking because there's no parking in front of the home. Fortunately the home is near the corner street with a fire hydrant so we quickly parked there to load/unload. Otherwise, street parking was not so horrible - the furthest we parked was about 2 blocks away, which we felt fine with because there were plenty of folks walking around the neighborhood too.

Karl has exceptional customer service and was always responsive to emails - he has been the most engaged owner I have communicated with while renting vacation homes.

Karl, many thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us - we will definitely look for your home again the next time we're back in DC!

We loved the place

  • 5 of 5

At first glance, we were concerned about bars on the front door. However, those concerns were quickly dispelled once we got inside. While there is a hint of the history of the place here and there, it has been remodeled into a current townhouse dwelling which has been tastefully decorated, comfortably furnished and fully provisioned. The Jacuzzi tub was a nice bonus. We communicated with Rasheid, Yvette and Eden (his assistants?) at various times before and during our stay. In every case, they were responsive, cordial an effective related to any issues (and we didn't really have many at all). The neighborhood felt safe, was convenient to Metro and has a number of eating establishments within a short walk. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.
