The house boat was a nice house boat. Just what you would expect....

  • 4 of 5

We had a great time and Scott and Darlene were wonderful hosts. They made real efforts to make sure we had a good stay. Just remember this is a house boat with marine toilets!

The only glitch, which was quickly corrected by Darlene, was a misunderstanding about a balance due. Evidently there was some mix up between VRBO and the hosts regarding total payments received. It did cause some anxiety on our group's part until we actually had the opportunity to talk to Darlene.

It was fun stay and you should try it!!

Peace & quiet and all of the comforts of home on one of the most beautiful lakes we've ever seen!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a fantastic time during our stay on Lake Life, we didn't ever want to leave! The houseboat was clean, comfortable and very well-equipped, with a beautiful interior. The owners were great to us and went way above and beyond to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Fontana Lake is amazingly beautiful, with crystal clear water that takes on an emerald green hue due to the depth, mile after mile of pristine wooded shoreline, and gorgeous mountain vistas all around. We were there during peak summer season, yet we still felt like we had the entire lake to ourselves much of the time. There are so many places to explore that we often went hours without ever seeing another boat. This is definitely the perfect vacation destination.... whether you want to just rest and relax or stay active with boating, fishing, kayaking or paddleboarding, there really is something for everyone. We will be back any chance we get!

Lake Life for Life

  • 5 of 5

I have looked and looked for something for 3 kids of different ages and a dog that would be out of the ordinary but fun and a break from the real world. Scott and Darlene have the BEST set up, first of all this is located on one of the most gorgeous lakes in NC not to mention you are IN IT! We woke up and had our coffee on the deck and couldn't believe the view. The kids hopped in the kayak or paddle board, or simply just hopped right off of the deck in the water. We had everything we needed to cook, the boat was so clean, we had the grill to cook out every night. We rented their boat (which was gorgeous and easily fit all of us) we saw the sunset at the dam, we essentially had the lake to ourselves! Scott and Darlene were so nice to work with and I have recommended their place to everyone. Honestly there was not one part of this experience that wasn't fantastic. I am only worried that they will start filling their schedule before we can get back. We can't wait to see what it will look like in the fall!

My boyfriend and I just wanted a relaxing lake weekend, but what we got truly exceeded our expectations. The Lake Life houseboat and its little dock is moored away from shore in a little cove on Lake Fontana. We rented Scott and Darlene's pontoon boat too so we could explore the lake - you could easily bring your own boat or jet skis since there are two boat slips connected to the houseboat dock. There is a tiny marina just across from the houseboat - just far enough for complete privacy; just close enough if you need anything. There are about 16 houseboats moored on the lake, but you don't even know they are there. The houseboat has everything you need to cook, play and relax in comfort. Full kitchen plus a big grill on the dock; super comfy bed with beautiful linens; and paddle boards, kayak and water toys to keep things interesting. The lake is pretty quiet - we explored a lot. Caught a 2 foot large mouth bass (we think); took cheese and *beverages* out on the pontoon to watch the sunset from the middle of the lake each night. Just turn the motor off and drift. Delightful. The houseboat works perfectly for 1 couple and there is another bedroom with a full/twin bunk that could work for a 2nd couple. 1.5 bathrooms, water, big fridge, stove, electricity, even TV if you want it. The whole experience was really fabulous and unique, and Scott and Darlene could not have been nicer. We WILL be back. :)

Myself and my fiancé have made several trips over and we just love's very peaceful and relaxing with low boat traffic the fishing is great( Large and small mouth bass, spotted bass, walleye, bream, lake trout, catfish) caught them all and if you're into photography you are in luck the sunrises and sunsets are wonderful and Fontana dam is a short boat trip away with lots of water fowl, deer, bear, bald eagles among other wildlife to snap and oh yeah the mountains...the Fontana marina it just across the way for bait and tackle and other supplies....Thanks guys see you soon!
