Good location but garden needs work
Overall our stay was fine, the house was spacious and well situated just off Shanklin high street and check in/out was straight forward. We had most of the amenities needed for a weeks stay. Zoe from HomeAway also accommodated our request to change ferry dates (our baby was ill) with great efficiency and sympathy.
There were a few areas we felt needed addressing:
1) The garden was not as it was pictured online. We have a 6 month old and 3 year old so we picked this house specifically for it's outdoor space with the intention to eat alfresco on the bbq but sadly the garden was overgrown and we couldn't sit at the table it was so bad, the bbq also hadn't been cleaned sufficiently. There were also dead fish in the pond and a dead mouse on the patio indicating no one had tidied the space up for some time.
2) The microwave didn't work (not ideal for baby food and milk). We did have efficient communication with HomeAway about this but unfortunately by then it was too late.
3) We arrived on a week where it was 25 degrees in the day. By night time the upstairs rooms were affected by lack of airflow so our baby monitor showed 27 degrees. This caused poor sleep for our baby and restless nights for us. Whilst I appreciate the weather cannot be helped, I would recommend providing fans in the summer months.
4) Whilst the checkout/in process was fine, 4pm seems very late in the day to check in.
Lovely house in a great location
Stayed for a week with in-laws and two children. House was nicely set up, with plenty of plates, cutlery, pots and pans. Three showers, one of which is in one of the rooms, all very clean and very hot water. Beds and bedding are high quality and very comfortable! One of the bedrooms is downstairs so choose carefully who sleeps here, as there could be noise travel from the living room. Our kids both slept upstairs so wasn't an issue for us.
Location is great - 30 seconds walk from Shanklin high street, with plenty of restaurants and shops. Beach is maybe 10-15 minutes walk - Shanklin beach is at the bottom of a steep incline, so be ready to pay for the lift down or have strong legs!
Our first visit to the Isle of Wight and we'd definitely consider staying in this house again.
The house is tired and there are too many personal knick-knacks, cushions and ornaments which are not needed at all. Unfortunately the house had not been cleaned and we had to wash the sheets and wait til the next morning before the cleaner came. Also just to say that my granddaughter had a cough which could have been brought about with the use of feather pillows and duvets. I feel in these days of hypoallergenic bedding and with lots of people not able to use feathers, I would like to see this use discontinued.
Location was great, and after a clean, the place was well equipped with a brilliant wet room. We did enjoy our stay, the children had a great time and loved their first trip to the island.
Very big accommodation bedrooms good size beds very comfortable love the patio from kitchen nice to sit early morning
Close to village , very handy not having to drive there , loads of eating places and close to sea front , nice walk . I come to the island every year this year was nice because we had loads of room in the house and was not bumping in to each other . Look forward to next year
The service from home from home was excellent to they also arrange the ferry crossing too many thanks
Shanklin lies to the south of Sandown, its sister resort within the Sandown Bay area, and is back-dropped by the dramatic red cliffs of Luccombe and the sandstone cliffs along the bay. It also has some of the best sandy beaches on the island and is a popular level walk all the way from Sandown, a few miles away. The famous Shanklin Chine is one of Britain's oldest visitor attractions and was popular with Victorian visitors as a natural wonder. The delightful waterfall and rare plants make it a firm favourite to this day and it also connects the beach with Shanklin Old Village; a picturesque collection of thatched, Island-stone cottages that now have a range of boutiques, gift shops, cafes and restaurants to enjoy. Shanklin itself has long been a popular location and as well as the beach, it has a delightful selection of eateries, shops and amenities. The train station here connects with Ryde Pier via Lake, Sandown, Brading and Ryde Esplanade.
The Isle of Wight is famous for its superb beaches, dramatic coastlines and outstanding natural beauty, making it a holiday haven with something for everyone. From secluded coves and wide expanses of sandy beaches to coastal paths and woodland, it's not just the stunning landscapes that attract visitors to the island, but also the variety of things to see and do. Rich in a wide variety of sporting and leisure activities, it's no wonder visitors return year after year. Self-catering is the most popular option because it is both cost effective and offers the flexibility and freedom to come and go as you please.
