About Brenda Brewer

Our father built this home himself with the help of his 3 young daughters. There are so many wonderful memories with this home as we spent every weekend here as we were growing up. The home reflects the love of both of our parents whom have now passed. There are 4 of us remaining children with the loss of our baby brother back in August 2014. Two of us live here at Lake Cumberland and the other 2 live in Louisville.

** The home was remodeled inside and out in 2004

Brenda Brewer purchased this chateau / country house in 1965

Unwelcoming

  • 1 of 5

It was a cute little house. We did notice somewhat of a odor upon entering the house, however there was some sort of air freshener in every room. We were notified 30 minutes before arrival the house had a septic tank so we were not to flush any toilet paper down the toilet. I too have a septic tank and have never had a issue with flushing toilet paper but we respectfully followed the house rules no matter how disgusting it was. We also encountered a large amount of small white cockroach looking bugs when we went to fill a air mattress for our grandsons to watch a movie in the living room. The caretaker of the home (the next door neighbor) did wash it off for us the next day. The caretaker was very friendly and welcoming. We however never used it. We at first thought the neighbors didn’t approve of the home being rented out but we later found out the neighbors are the home owners and the family. By our last day we spent in the home we were exhausted from being woke up at sunrise every morning by the chickens and roosters and then spending the day at the lake. Our daughter is in the service and had spent the last 2 weeks in training stopped by the house to see us on her way home. She lives in Tennessee and we live in Indiana. She brought with her a small dog which was never let in the house and had been out on the front porch with us until we ate and then was on the back porch. Now mind you the home is surrounded by the homeowner, the family and the care taker you are being watched and supervised at all times. Clearly I never let the dog in the home, nor did the dog leave our sight, walk away from us or even bark. I was sent a message stating the dog must be on a leash and they could not stay or she would charge me more money. Clearly I was being respectful of her home. They watch every move you make and knew the dog had never been in the home and had been outside at all times I received the message within 15 minutes of their arrival. We were so offended we were not allowed to visit with our daughter we get to see twice a year we left a day early.

It was nice

  • 3 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed are self here. We did have are daughter with us and all she wanted was to swim. The lake is not as close as we wanted and we were hesitant about swimming in it. We actually went to a water park and went swimming there. The people who owns this property was very helpful and the house was clean. When we left we cleaned more than what they asked but that's just how we are. Its beautiful, nice and quiet. The only thing I would change is to update the beds my husband and I felt like we were going to fall through. All in all it's a nice palace just to get out for a small vacation.

A little piece of heaven

  • 4 of 5

Very quiet and charming. Loved the location. Neighbors are very friendly. Our only issue was the front door. Very hard to close due to humidity and door swelling. Overall very nice stay. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
