What an incredible place........

  • 5 of 5

We drove to Wisconsin from CA and were hoping for a nice quiet and relaxing retreat. Jim and Cate's place was just that. Comfortable accommodations. Coffee in the morning on the outside patio. Cate baked us some incredible pastries each morning. Jim pointed me to some of the local streams so I could get my fishing fix in. Absolutely the best hosts. The Drfitless area is pretty awesome. If you are wanting to hunt down browns in small streams or just hike through some of the several county parks, this is the place. Viroqua has all the ammentities for dining and groceries. The Driftless Cafe is a place you have to eat it.

Jim and Cate- We can't thank you enough. We had a great time.

Jim- I'll be taking you up on that fishing offer next year.

Relaxing weekend get away

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful, peaceful and clean! The views from the back porch were phenomenal! We wished the weather would have been more cooperative so we could take advantage of their perfect fire pit. The Gitters were incredibly accommodating, had great suggestions for places to visit and eat. And the fresh scones and muffins in the morning were amazing! There was awesome hiking near by and Viroqua is such a fun little town with tons to offer that is only a short drive away.

If you're in Southwest Wisconsin, this is the place!

  • 5 of 5

There's simply not a better spot to relax and lay your head than right here. The amenities are exceptional and the scenery is gorgeous.

Jim and Cate's hospitality is off the charts. They're fantastic, good-hearted people who know the area well and can make super recommendations on just about everything. It's always a pleasure to spend time with them. Breakfast is always delicious and full of variety. And Jim knows the local water better than the fish!

I can't wait to return!!!

A wonderful experience with wonderful hosts.

We all left a lengthy review in the guest book. My closing comment to Jim and Cate was, "In the unlikely event that you ever decide to sell this remarkable place, can you give us first dibs?

Great valley views! Cozy basement with everything you need!

  • 4 of 5

Our stay was 2 nights with 2 couples. It was nice having you separate bedrooms (either fulls or queens- not sure) and a shared bathroom. Shower was hot and great pressure to take a relaxing shower. Jim & Cait made up the fire pit outside for us to enjoy, but the winds were too high each night to have a fire. Great patio to relax on day and night. Small concern: you do hear the floors above creek and as people move upstairs so light sleepers may have an issue with this. The breakfast basket of scones/muffins were delicious! Will stay again!

Driftless Cafe

Newton Ridge Lodge has the best view in Vernon County. Our ridge view of the North Fork of the Bad Ax River is simply amazing. We are located within minutes of the best trout fishing in the driftless area. The North Fork of the Bad Ax River is just minutes away as is Duck Egg County Park, and Eagle Eye Mississippi Valley Conservancy area. Duck Egg Park is great for hiking, fly fishing, birding, and horse back riding(you supply the horse) . Vernon County is known for it's organic farms, and restaurants, and farmers market. Amish farms also abound with furniture shops, quilts, and bakeries. The area hosts bike races, music events, and the county fair. The Driftless Café is a must do while in the area. This restaurant features locally farmed food. The Mississippi River is 15 minutes away with beautiful vistas and eagle watching. Star gazing is incredible in the darkness of the coulee nights.
