I grew up in Homewood Al. I moved to Nashville for work 7 years ago, but have kept my home there. I love the area and all that it has to offer.
Molly James purchased this house in 2006
My home is the perfect location to experience so much of what Birmingham has to offer. Located just minutes away from downtown Homewood, English Village, Mountain Brook Village, Downtown Birmingham, Vulcan, the Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens.
The home has unique features like 12ft ceilings, original fireplace, and several outdoor seating areas. You are in walking distance to English Village.
I stayed here for a wedding. The location was great. The house is as advertised, albeit a bit old. One bathroom has been remodeled as has the kitchen. However, the other tub did not drain well at all. The lamps in the front bedroom did not work, there was no iron and ironing board that I could find, there was a stack of dirty laundry on the washer.
Also, the drive is so steep that you cannot get your car level. I was traveling with flowers so that was problematic. We had two cars and it was dicey parking and getting in and out because the parking areas was so small and so incredibly steep.
Also, the steps are very steep, not the same distance apart, and have loose bricks, and there is no hand rail. Being dressed for a wedding and other events, I had to wear a pair of tennis shoes up and down the step. The picture does not give the true slope of the steps.
I also had a horrendous time with VRBO which is not the owner's fault. The were atrocious...
in comparison with other Home Away experiences, this was in the mid range. The house was clean and the kitchen and baths were updated. The location can't be beat for B'ham visitors. The furnishings were adequate, the kitchen supplies were also adequate but not up to other homes I've stayed in. Communication with the owner was difficult; no phone number given so preliminary questions as well as contact while there were sporadic. Would have been nice to have directions for operating the tv. Overall, certainly better than a hotel, but a little room for improvement Three and 1/2 stars
We stayed in this property for a few days before Christmas. It was very comfortable and accomodated our family well. Although it is located on a busy street, we did not experience any disturbance from traffic. The beds and bath were comfortable and well appointed. This property is located conveninetly to many different areas, and I would recommend if you want an upgrade from a hotel.
The house has a great location and plenty of room to move around. This house had three comfortable beds. Although, it is older inside and not easy for people to move around without waking others. One downside was we had to go buy our own toilet paper. Also, be ready to not have much room in the driveway for more than two cars. You can park on the street but it is very busy with traffic.
My family rented this house for the weekend while in town for a family wedding. The house was very comfortable and so convenient to the wedding activities. We enjoyed having the extra space of the house vs a hotel room. Would definitely rent this house again. Molly was very easy to work with and responded very quickly to my emails
This house is centrally located so it was easy to get to downtown or anywhere on the south side. Relaxing home with places to enjoy in the back yard and sun room. This property will be on the top of my list next time traveling to Birmingham.
Located minutes away from Downtown Birmingham, UAB, Homewood's downtown area and walking distance to English Village. Local restaurants, shopping and family friendly activities like the Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens less than a mile away.
