Relaxing stay in the heart of the Mourne Mountains
The house was lovely. The accommodation was great for us two families with teenagers. It was clean and had everything you need for a great stay. We travelled around the coast and very much enjoyed a visit to the Kilbroney park which Paul recommended. He’s a great host and very knowledgeable.

Four x Two
We booked this property at short notice after our original booking in the Mournes was cancelled two weeks prior. What a find. The location and property were amazing and there was plenty of room for 8 adults (all 55yrs+). Very relaxing stay. Thank you Paul :)

About the host

Host profile image
Fifth generation at Crotlieve.
Now retired after a career as a building contractor, in my youth I was a mountaineer & climber travelling to some of the the worlds great landscapes, all reinforcing a love of the outdoors and our wonderful natural and built heritage and I came to realize our own local landscape and remarkable history here in Rostrevor was second to none, so I headed on a new trail and converted my barn to a holiday let and invited people to come stay and see our wonderful little piece of the world.
I have been listing and recording our ancient Rostrevor trees with the Woodland Trust, we entered and campaigned for my favourite tree the Holm oak in Kilbroney meadow and it won the N Ireland Tree of the year for 2016.
From my love and research on the ancient trees, the living legacy of those famous historic families once resident here, I wrote my Tree Trail and with Mourne Heritage trust and council it was produced as the Kilbroney Meadow Tree Trail leaflet.
With a local community group we added poetry and art and published a new Book, The Trees of Kilbroney Park and its available at the Barn and shops in Rostrevor.

Delighted to offer a guided tour of the rare and ancient trees of Kilbroney Meadow, or a historic Ross legacy tour with a stay at the Barn.

Why they chose this property

I grew up here and have always loved the beauty, solitude and magnificent scenery of this place after visiting the property as a child with my father.
I purchased the place in 1982 and built my home on the property and in 2009 I converted my Barn/workshop to the holiday let, Incorporating lots of new Eco developments, recycled natural materials and our own ideas of comfort and homeliness.
Now after 40 years here, I'm still impressed by and never tire of watching the big skies, sunset’s, storms, the wonderful scenery and the seasons as they come and go in the valley, where the Fox, Badger, Red Squirrels and Pine martins feel safe and are welcome visitors from the forest in our gardens.

What makes this property unique

Easy check in, just walk on in and make yourself at home in the safety and peace of mind of a single Eco dwelling built with great care and attention, all located amongst breath-taking scenery.
Unique, charming and secluded, an Eco Barn Conversion with secure off road covered parking for 3 cars. Wonderful panoramic views to the south, overlooking all of Kilbroney valley to Carlingford lough.
Historic Rostrevor village with its 7 old pubs, 5 new restaurants and music 3 nights a week.
Included with a stay. A guided walk and talk tour, among the Rare and Ancient Rostrevor trees, or alternatively, Historic tour and talk on the life and legacy of Major General Robert Ross.

See the famous Fairy Glen, Cloughmore and the outstanding scenery, The beautiful Kilbroney park. Great walking and biking and lots of local attractions.
