· THE NEIGHBORHOOD / NEIGHBORHOOD ·
The Gràcia neighborhood is just one stop from the beginning of Passeig de Gràcia but it seems like a completely different world. Gràcia was an independent town until the end of the 19th century and even today its community is small and closed. The locals are very proud of their roots; They don't say "I'm from Barcelona", they say "I'm from Gràcia". The area is populated by artists and bohemian crowds. It has a wide diversity of ethnicities and has a large concentration of international restaurants. Plaça de Sol is the best known place in this neighborhood. It is full of café-terraces and at night it is the place that people choose to go for a drink. Many also come here to get married. However, despite its modern nature, Gràcia is in turn a very traditional neighborhood with a large population of older people. This creates a strange and fun mix that makes it a special place to sit and enjoy watching people go by! Gràcia is also well known for the festival that takes place 5 days during the month of August in which people compete for street decoration (and they take it very seriously!). Generally the results are spectacular and at night the festival comes alive with drinks and live music stalls of all kinds. Fontana (L3 - green line) is the main metro stop, from there you can reach the city center. Plaça Catalunya is less than 10 minutes away. Also very close to the subway stop is the Verdi cinema that passes movies in the original language (original version). Gràcia is completely self sufficient. This means that you can stay here and not have to leave if you don't want to. This neighborhood has good services of all kinds, spectacular bars, cozy cafes, covered market ... a true Mediterranean lifestyle. Although everything, from buildings, streets and squares, is on a much smaller scale than in the city center, there is quite an art nouveau architecture to see. Maybe such a modern population is somewhat intimidating (there are many hoops, strange hairstyles and tattoos turning!), but in general the area is very safe and quiet since it is far from the main places where people stay drinking late. This is the perfect place for those looking for something a little different or for those who may have already visited Barcelona and want to experience a different tourism. Being so easy to access the center of Barcelona, Gràcia is a really suitable place for everyone. One of the best advantages of this neighborhood is that there are not so many tourists going around and you will feel that you have discovered a new and different space. Another good option is to go shopping, since Gràcia has both artistic boutiques and traditional Spanish stores. The area is very safe and away from the main squares where people drink outside until the early hours is also quiet. The area is perfect for those who want something a little different, maybe those who have been to Barcelona before and want a different tourist experience. Although Barcelona is so central because it really stands easily accessible from Gràcia is suitable for everyone.
