Shannon McBride and Sam Conlon
About Shannon McBride and Sam Conlon
Sam Conlon, third generation artist, raising fourth generation artist, moved to Ste. Gen. in 2000 from San Francisco. Sam has always made her way with innovative and unique jobs. She is a former street performer, worked in retail for Patagonia and was a professional footbag "Hacky Sack" player to name a few. Sam is a 25 time World Champion as well as a member of the Footbag Hall of Fame. Eighteen years ago, Sam passed through Ste. Gen. and fell in love. Thus began this leg of her unique journey. While not fully appreciating what she would actually sell, she bought her first building on that visit and Only Child Originals was born. Sam creates one of a kind jewelry as well as many other forms of art. Her current obsession is art created from reclaimed materials. Sam then purchased Sadie, a brick building from the 1900's. Sadie was filled in 2012 with the materials from a 100 year old barn that she tore down with a friend. The materials have morphed into incredible luminaries, decorative shelving and gorgeous tables now sold across the street from Only Child in a store called Rust. Sam is a hard working single mom who is teaching her son to explore his creative side just like her mother offered her young daughter. Sam brings vitality and creativity to each endeavor in her life and invites you to escape into her world for a little while. Her friend and business partner Shannon supports and reminds Sam of daily necessities and balances out the art and life part. Shannon owns Beanik Cafe and Pastry and has a similarly unique approach to the concept of a "job". Shannon spent 22 years as a professional gymnastics coach and aquatic director. She would love to be a full time student and has degrees in art, art history, sport exercise science and sport behavior science. Like Sam, Shannon fell in love with Ste. Gen. and decided to join Sam in her amazing world and has not looked back. Together, they hope to offer you a unique and memorable experience

Why Shannon McBride and Sam Conlon chose Ste. Genevieve
Ste. Gen offers Sam an opportunity to live the artist dream. Where else can an artist own one historic building let alone three! Sam wanted to expand her first shop, Only Child Originals, and discovered that is was cheaper to buy the whole building than to rent just the shop space. The proceeds from Rust go directly to the restoration of all three of her historic buildings. The Rust apartment is a culmination of a year long labor of love, as well as sweat and a little blood. Sam would be happy to show you the before and after video :)
What makes this Apartment unique
Rust's location could not be more ideal. Being in the heart of the historic district allows you to get lost in your imagination. Whether it is the architecture, the vibe, the nostalgia, the serenity or the friendly and welcoming locals. In this overworked, fast paced, ever changing world it is comforting to know that a safe, serene town like Ste. Gen. is alive, well and right here patiently waiting for you.

would recommend this downtown loft to anyone wanting to stay in comfortable and interesting place in the area. walking distance to all restaurants, bars, attractions, etc. owners are great people and their hospitality is like no other. clean and well maintained.
Location could not be more perfect. The place provides lots of space including a full kitchen.
This upstairs unit is older so best you can appreciate wood floors that creak, pop and include some slight elevation changes as transition from some rooms; pocket doors and older type doors that may not close easily within their framing; windows that guarantee lots of natural daylight and some fresh air exchange, etc. We loved our stay. Great places to eat: Beanik below the unit and the Audubon Grill and Bar.
We enjoyed our stay! Plenty of space here! We had a wonderful breakfast at the cafe downstairs in the morning including a mini quiche and lattes- yum!
Perfect location, relaxing get away.
Spacious apartment in a great location
Four of us stayed here for a girls weekend in October. The location is an easy 1 to 2 block walk to the majority of shops , bars and restaurants in the historic district. The streets are well lit and we had no qualms about walking back after dark. We had plenty of room to spread out in the apartment without feeling cramped. Sam & Shannon were great hosts. Would stay here again & recommend this adorable apartment when visiting the area.
Thank you! Glad you had a great experience. We look forqard to your next visit to Ste Gen!
Short and sweet 💗
Ste. Gen is a great town, rich in history as well as rich with fascinating people. The Rust apartment sits in the middle of Main Street surrounded by great shops, restaurants and art. Take a stroll and visit Sam at Only Child Originals, Kara at Simple to Sassy, Joy at Arts and Antiques, Gary at the Spirit Haus, Terrri at Art is Life, Kelly at the Show-Me Shop and Kay at Studio 221. After having a coffee or tea with a bite of sweet from Cafe Rust, enjoy chocolate with Nicole at Sweet Things, a great salad and sandwich with Janece at Stella and Me, a thick steak sounds great with MaryBeth at the Audubon, some homemade onion rings with Jerry at the Anvil, a slice with the Mayor at Sirros or have some liver dumplings at the Old Brick. If wine gets your taste buds tingling, there are many to choose from in the area just follow the Route De Vin! How about a little hiking in Hawn State Park. The trails are breathtaking and enjoyed by all abilities. History buff? You have come to the right place! Sainte Genevieve is steeped with history and offers guided tours of houses dating back to 1792. The Bolduc House, a National Landmark, offers an opportunity to live the French Colonial life with period costumes to boot. The town offers many events and festivals throughout the year and are enjoyed by all. The French Militia marching down Main is a sight to behold. I can hear the cannons now! Artists are everywhere in Ste. Gen. The 4th Friday Art Walks followed by the after party is not to be missed. Music can be heard in the streets with talent around every corner. Jour De Fete is held in August and brings craftsmen and artisans out onto the blocked streets. If this is your scene, book your room early for the second weekend in August. Other festivals include the French Heritage Festival, the Christmas Festival, the Chocolate Walk, Romancing the Grape, Jour de la Tere, Ecole de Soldat, the Garden Walk, Bolduc Day and don't forget the July 4th Freedom Celebration. Sainte Genevieve is a treasure in Missouri and offers a calm, peaceful, wonderful getaway with fascinating people, great food, unique art and great wine. See you in Ste. Gen!
