Overview

About the property

Great Location, quiet yet close to action. One level cabin, on shuttle line

The Short of it........

The LS Cabin has three bedrooms and two baths. One king-size bed, one queen-size bed, one full-size bed and twin bunk beds, accommodating eight guests. The kitchen is equipped with new cabinets, granite countertops, new dishwasher, new built-in microwave, coffee pot, toaster, cookware, dishes, flatware for eight guests. All rooms are on one level for easy access. We furnish paper goods, soaps, shampoo, dishwasher and laundry tabs, towels/washcloths, fresh sheets for all beds. We clean and maintain the LS Cabin ourselves and we're picky!

The Long of it........

The LS Cabin (we named it after ourselves, we are the Longs) is located at 720 East High Street, Red River, NM 87558. It is on the East side of the town of Red River. When coming into the town from the East, take the right fork prior to the gas pumps, this is High Street. The second house on High Street is the LS Cabin; notice the tiny house beside the cabin. (We will be remodeling the tiny house and making it “The Little Deuce Coupe,” a cabin just for couples.)

The LS Cabin has one huge advantage – it is all on one level. It is ideal for folks that don’t want to or can’t do stairs. The East entrance is one step into the cabin, once in; all is on the same level. The porch is also one level. Looking out the family room west windows, you can see the ski lift. Late evening, watch for the deer to come down to eat the hay with the horses at the stable. In the summer, if you hear banging, it’s probably a bear trying to get into the dumpsters! The LS Cabin is great for a walk through town yet away from of all the noise and Main street commotion for peace and quiet when you are ready to relax.

You may park in the driveway or in front of the cabin. The door on the East side adjacent to the driveway has the keyless lock and is used as the entrance. When you book the LS Cabin, a code to the keyless lock and information on how to use the code will be sent to you by e-mail. Check-in is 3:00 PM and Check-out is 10:00 AM. (These times are necessary in order to get the cabin cleaned prior to the arrival of the next guests.)

We purchased the cabin December 2014 and immediately began remodeling it. The LS Cabin has new kitchen cabinets, granite counter tops, new microwave and dishwasher. We added wood accents and fresh paint and thoroughly cleaned the entire cabin. The cabin is carpeted in the family room and the three bedrooms. Kitchen, dining room and bathrooms are tiled. The master bedroom is spacious with king-size log bed and with a master bathroom adjacent to the bedroom. The master bath has a tub with shower, toilet with a door, the sink vanity and closet separate. The cabin has two additional bedrooms, one with a queen size bed, and a third bedroom, the bunk room, with bunk beds, and a full-size bed, ideal for bunking up the kids. These two bedrooms use the hall bathroom which has tub with shower, vanity sink and commode, with the washer and dryer located in this bathroom. A pac & play is in the master bedroom closet and a high chair in the kitchen for the little guys. The cabin will accommodate eight people comfortably and has beds for eight.

The living area has a flat screen TV with local channels i.e Albuquerque. A few DVD's and adding are also available. We have a number of paperbacks on our book shelves, games, and a couple of decks of cards for quiet times when you are not out and about. We do not have a phone or Wi-Fi in the cabin. We assume everyone these days has a cell phone. AT&T, Verizon work at the cabin, other carriers may also, but we know for sure AT&T and Verizon does. Wi-Fi is available at the library just across the street, usually 3G or better.

The LS Cabin has a washer and dryer for your personal laundry and in case you run out of towels. We furnish laundry tabs and dryer sheets for your convenience. The cabin has a dishwasher and we furnish dishwasher tabs. We also provide towels, linens, and supplies, such as, toilet paper, dishwashing liquid, and trash bags. The cabin has a coffee pot, toaster, crock pot, full set of dishes and silverware for eight people, pots and pans, microwave.

The LS Cabin has a porch for sitting and a covered area for grilling or just relaxing. A grill for cooking out and a table for outdoor eating are under the covered area. Summer nights are cool and after a summer rain shower the temperature can easily get down into the 50s! A sweater feels good!

Please NO SMOKING in the cabin. If you are a smoker, please smoke outside and carefully dispose of all butts. New Mexico has been a drought for more than three years. A careless butt could burn our beautiful forest and our forest would not recover in our lifetimes.

PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED at the LS Cabin. Although your pet may be the most well behaved dog or cat, many people have allergies to dogs and cats. We understand you love your pets but to better accommodate everyone, we must say “no pets allowed.”

Red River has a small grocery store and a number of restaurants. Some of the more popular restaurants require reservations. Red River has a celebration for every holiday and seems to make some holidays up! It is a fun town. At the LS Cabin, you will be close enough to Main Street to walk to all the “doings” yet far enough away to enjoy some quiet relaxing time too.

So you want to stay at the LS Cabin……

You will be charged the nightly rate, plus Gross Receipts/Lodgers Tax, and $125 cleaning/supplies fee and a refundable damage deposit per stay. Most times we have a three (3) night minimum, major holidays a four (4) night minimum. Bag and dispose of your trash at the dumpsters in town. Also, put your dishes in the dishwasher and turn the dishwasher on. Trash or dirty dishes will result in a charge of $25 against your damage deposit. Occasionally, due to commitments, we have to hire cleaning folks to clean the cabin and they don’t like to wash dishes or take out trash, thus the $25 for either one. We clean the LS Cabin most of the time ourselves and we don’t like to do dishes or take out trash either! Any damages will also be charged against your damage deposit. If something doesn’t work properly, tell us and we will take care of it. We have enjoyed remodeling the LS Cabin and have enjoyed staying in town to take part in all the Red River “doings” and believe you will too. Thanks in advance for treating the LS Cabin with the respect you would like for your own home.

JUST A LITTLE MORE.....FYI

We also own and rent the MMM Cabin on Bobcat Pass (VRBO LISTING 562811) and the LDC Cabin beside the LS Cabin. Check out the MMM Cabin if you want to be out of town or the LDC Cabin, a couples cabin, beside the LS Cabin. After retirement and careful thought, we have decided to manage the MMM cabin and the LS Cabin ourselves rather than chose a management company. We believe we can provide our guests with a high quality rental property for less by renting through VRBO. We will not be charging booking fees, however, as I stated above Homeaway/VRBO has now started charging the traveler a service fee. We collect a damage deposit. Charges against your Damage Deposit will be accessed only if you damage something, leave trash, dirty dishes, have a pet in the cabin or smoke in the cabin; otherwise, we gladly refund your damage deposit after cleaning. We have always cleaned and maintained the MMM Cabin and plan to do the same with the LS Cabin. We believe, as owners, we can clean and maintain the cabins with a commitment that most cleaning services do not provide. We want our guests to feel they have received value for vacation rental dollars and as our guests, we want you to be comfortable and feel at ease telling us when something is good and also, when something isn’t. If you need something or have a problem, tell us. Thank you for considering the our cabins.

About Faye and Finis Long

We are Faye and Finis Long, retired from Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque. Even while working, we spent every weekend in Eagle Nest and Red River. We just couldn’t see staying in the city when the beautiful mountains of New Mexico were only three hours away. Clean air, relaxed small town atmosphere, no traffic, we became addicted. For years we used a management company in Red River to manage our nightly rental property. After retiring, we decided to manage our nightly rental properties ourselves rather than have a management company. We came to the conclusion that we could provide our guests with a high quality rental property for less by renting through VRBO. We currently have the Michael Martin Murphey Cabin (MMM) on Bobcat Pass and the Longshot Cabin (LS) in Red River on High Street and the Little Deuce Coupe (LDC), a couples cabin. So, whether you want to stay out of town or in town, we have a property that we maintain, clean and rent as a nightly rental. We do not charge booking fees, (aka credit card fees, we will absorb those fees as a cost of doing business with you), damage insurance (damage charges will be only if you damage something). We do charge a cleaning fee of $125 per stay. We clean and maintain our cabins ourselves. Because the properties belong to us, we care. We clean and maintain our cabins with a commitment that most cleaning services do not provide. We live close by and are available if there is a problem. We try to meet all of our guests as a courtesy and so our guests will know us and feel comfortable when contacting us. We love having guests enjoy the LS Cabin, the MMM Cabin and the LDC Cabin on whether you prefer in-town or out-of-town cabin, small or large. We hope our returning guests will book their favorite cabin, be it the LS Cabin, the MMM Cabin or the LDC through VRBO and our new guests will feel free to call us with their questions

Faye and Finis Long purchased this cabin in 2014

Why Faye and Finis Long chose New Mexico

We purchased this property around the Christmas Holiday 2014 and began remodeling it. We love doing remodeling, although we are weekend warriors! We wanted a property in town to use ourselves on occasion when the snow is just tooo deep on Bobcat Pass. It is also, a property for our "old age." It has no stairs, everything is on one level. Walking in from the outside is only a half-a-step into the cabin. We love cowboy and wildlife decor and have collected too much to put in one place. We love the rustic life but also want all the comforts of home. No "off the grid" business.....give us a dishwasher and let's get out and see the sights! The Longshot cabin is located in an area that has it all. In town, with all the celebrations and hoop-la, fishing ponds for the kids, the river itself, skiing and just a short drive to wilderness, hiking trails, and 4-wheeling in the Carson National Forest. If family can't agree on the fun for the day, shopping is close enough to walk and the rest can 4-wheel to Goose Lake, then all return for a cookout at the Longshot in the evening while sharing the fun events of the day and "just how big that trout was that got away".

What makes this cabin unique

The LS Cabin is on High Street, one of the few streets that guests can ride their side-by-sides to the entrance to Mallett Canyon and to the gas pumps to gas them up, no trailing to get to the trails in Mallett Canyon. The LS is all on one level, no stairs. Family members old and young can come and feel independent at the LS Cabin. The LS has an outdoor fireplace with a lighted covered patio for late evening get-to-gathers outside. Grill and eat on the patio and enjoy a cool evening in the mountains. The LS Cabin has all the comforts of home, washer, dryer, dishwasher, and we furnish the necessities. Plenty of play area on the porch and under the patio cover for the little guys. The LS is on the shuttle line, the Miners Transit. If your destination is farther than you want to walk, give them a call, they will pick you up and bring you home and the best part....It is FREE!

The LS Cabin is located on the East end of town where most of the adult night life entertainment is located....walk to the Bull 'o Woods or Motherlode and walk home....no worries!

Our guests just need their personal items and food and the enthusiasm to have a good time in the unique town of Red River and surrounding area. Check out New Mexico true Red River for all the doings throughout the year. Use the LS Cabin as your home base and enjoy it all, if it is only getting away from the sweltering summer heat in our neighboring states. (by the way, each bedroom has a ceiling fan!) You will not need air conditioning in Red River. You will probably need the extra blankets we provide! Be sure to bring a jacket for the cool evenings out on the patio by the outdoor wood stove. Welcome to the beautiful mountains of New Mexico and most of all to Red River!

Couldn't have picked a better place!

  • 5 of 5

The Longshot cabin met ALL of our needs. Nicely furnished, stocked with everything we needed for a very comfortable stay. Close enough to downtown but not in the middle of everything which we liked. We pulled a 24 foot bike trailer and had room to park it in front of the cabin. Outdoor covered patio was wonderful. Be prepared to go without TV and cellphone service (US Cellular), reception was spotty at best. But who needs that when you have beautiful mountains and a great town to explore. Loved it!

Well kept, comfortable house!

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed here twice now and really enjoy the property itself. We particularly enjoy the porch area! The long shot has everything you need to enjoy a home in Red River. Not too far from town. It not exactly in the middle of things either.

The only downside was that this year we were awoken each morning by ATV's driving by and it continued all day. I didn't remember it being like that last year.

Perfect Place to Relax

  • 5 of 5

It was the perfect get-a-way spot for the 5 of us! Beautiful home with all the amenities ones would need in a quiet location yet close enough to town you could walk to the shops if you wanted. Loved the porch with the fire pit and grill of an evening relaxing while watching the showers coming down. Saw lots of deer right close to us and enjoyed setting out on the front porch early of a morning. I highly recommend this home to everyone!!! So much better than staying in a hotel or condo. The full kitchen and washer & dryer were definitely huge plus. Loved how Faye and Finis checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed and they even left a light on for us in the house since we arrived so late. Definitely plan on calling them if we make our way back to Red River again!!
