About the property

3 BR 2 Bath Lake Log Home with private beach/dock on secluded road close to town

Four season hand-scribed log home on Little Bass lake on a private 5.0 acre lot at end of dead end road. Only 1 distant neighbor. Interior finished with knotty pine ceiling and Australian Cyprus wood floors, and Tamarack paneling. Full kitchen including fridge, freezer, dishwasher, microwave, stove, oven and center island. Watch the stars from the large deck facing the quiet bay at the South end of Little Bass Lake. There is good fishing right from dock. A-Frame vaulted ceilings with master BR and bath in loft. Main floor has 2 large bedrooms, full bathroom, kitchen and great room and has a 4 season porch that is great for family meals any time of year. The walkout basement is unfinished but there are laundry facilities and a bowflex and elliptical for use by guests.

Multiple campfire pits make an excellent spot for conversation, singalongs and S'mores.

A 150-acre 70 foot deep lake, Little Bass has an abundant fishery including northern pike, large mouth bass, good crappie fishing, and even the occasional walleye.

Broadband internet and basic cable TV included. Public boat access making it convenient to launch your boat. Plenty of dock space for you boat.

There is a 2011 Forrester Fisher 19 foot pontoon for rent as well - ask the owner.

PS: Unfortunately my property does not directly access snowmobile trails.

About Randy Peterson

Hi Everyone! I build this gorgeous log home on Little Bass Lake in 2004. But I have had this property since 1996 and still also own a small cabin next door to this rental home. Therefore I am often and usually around - especially in summer - in case you need anything. My goal is that your stay be a happy and relaxing one.

I am originally from So St. Paul but have lived and worked for IBM in the Rochester area for years when not up enjoying the Grand Rapids area. I've been coming with my family to this area on summer vacations since I was 5 years old or so and just fell in love with the area early on. It is still unbelievable to me that Itasca county is home to 1000+ of our 10000 lakes.

Randy Peterson purchased this lodge in 2004

Why Randy Peterson chose Minnesota

As I said, I have been coming to this area with my family on vacations since I was 5 and I just love it here. I sit on the dock at nights listening to the loons, or the frogs start the croaking and I can just feel any remaining stress leave me. I hope you will feel that too. And if you are lucky, you might get treated to a northern lights display.

What makes this lodge unique

What I always loved about raising my son and nieces and nephews here was that the lake was just perfect for family. Its big enough that we could go tubing during the day while its also not so big that allowing the kids to go boating or out in the canoe alone will lead to any problems. They just really can't get lost or into too much trouble.

Beautiful Fall Setting

  • 5 of 5

We were here to enjoy family time in northern Minnesota. It is a wonderful log home in a beautiful setting. It is very private, and we enjoyed our times around a campfire while taking in peak fall colors. The kitchen is so very nice and well stocked. We loved the big fire place, which could be enjoyed by everyone due to the open floor plan. It was very clean and welcoming. I highly recommend! Randy was a wonderful, accommodating host!

Best Kept Secret.....

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I enjoyed a very relaxing (4) days in this spacious yet cozy log home. Randy was spectacular to work with and extremely helpful and responsive when we had questions regarding our stay and things to do in the area. Although the intent was to sneak away for a few relaxing days we tend to be "busy" people. The cabin is very tidy and nicely stocked with creature comforts. The seclusion within the woods is charming and the lake easily accessible.

We spent days walking, fishing, cooking in the great kitchen and relaxing indoors and outdoors by the fire. The deck is spectacular! Large w plenty of seating. We also appreciated the small workout room downstairs:).

We did sneak into town for fresh donuts at the bakery (again...thanks for the workout room in the lower level!), dinner at the Forest Lake Steakhouse (worth it) and a nice road trip to Chippewa National Forest to hike to the hidden Joyce Estate (this hike is 3 miles each way so pack some water....beautiful hike and Trout Lake is so sky blue in color).

We loved our stay and plan on returning in the future. Thanks for sharing your home with our family.

clean, spacious, enjoyable for all ages!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week in late August and rented the pontoon the whole week. The log home was beautiful, clean, and spacious. We had a great time fishing and using all the available water sports. The kids loved the private sand beach area for sandcastles and easy access swimming. Our two golden retrievers were in heaven jumping off the dock. The kitchen was fully stocked with any cooking implements you may need. All in all it was great vacation.

Our family of 8 adults and 3 younger children had a great week at this beautiful log home. We swam, fished, kayaked, paddle boarded. paddle boated , played games and just hung out together. We made many wonderful memories together. Randy was very hospitable and ready to help with what ever problem we may have had. Which were really NONE. Thanks Randy!

A most amazing place

  • 5 of 5

If you have never enjoyed the serenity and beauty of the Minnesota woods, the call of the loons, fishing and playing in a clear lake, and the togetherness of family, you need to take a vacation to this log home.

Our “cabin” (actually a log home) was wonderful with plenty of room for the 6 of us. We especially enjoyed early morning coffee in the sun room, reading on the deck which was very spacious, swimming and playing with the dogs in the lake and woods, getting chipmunks to eat out of your hand, and catching fish every time we tried. The log cabin is close enough to Grand Rapids that trips to town to eat out or go shopping were easy.

Randy provides everything that was necessary to make the stay memorable. There is internet, TV, games, and books. We were all very happy and will be returning.

Itasca county is known for its 1000 lakes and great hiking and cross country ski trails. There is a casino in Deer River which is 10 miles from the property. Grand Rapids is only 6 miles away with all of its benefits and activities.

Fall colors are great here in Grand Rapids area. Here is a link to the fall colors map/status :

NOTE: Town Line Road on the map above is now called Peterson Bay Road. Just take a left on that road and follow it to first right turn and up the small hill to the log home. 34882 Peterson Bay rd.
