About this property

Restored house with private pool and views to the wooded hillside and small lake

This is a privately owned second home in France, completely refurbished and redesigned. It is in an elevated position, overlooking its own large, private floodlit swimming pool, and small lake. It is beautifully designed and landscaped for outside living and furnished and equipped to a high standard as a home, not as a gite. It faces due south for all day sunshine.
Set in the tiny hamlet of Bariats, it is an eight minute drive from the picturesque 13th century bastide town of Villereal, with its full shopping facilities, good restaurants and weekly markets.
Monpazier and Beaumont bastides are fifteen minutes away and the wonderful sites and activities of the Dordogne valley are only a half hour drive away. The immediate area is fascinating to explore, with its medieval towns, such as Issigeac, villages and castles. Splendid local restaurants provide regional specialities and range from simple family style to French Gourmet cuisine.
The property provides a private paradise.
The house has been completely refurbished and continues to be attentively maintained. It is fitted out to a high standard as the owners' second home. It has an open plan Kitchen with good and plentiful crockery, cutlery, glasses and kitchen equipment, including cook books for inspiration so you can take advantage of the wonderful local produce. There is a Dining Area to seat six and a comfortable sitting area with a fireplace and log burner. Should you need respite from outdoor living you will find a range of books, DVDs, CDs, TV with digital channels, games, land-line and free WiFi. The Kitchen and dining area both open onto the Covered Terrace.
The Covered Terrace looks down over your pool terrace to the small lake and the thickly wooded hillside beyond. This is a true “outdoor room”, 25 square metres in size, with an additional dining table and chairs together with a relaxing sitting area. The terrace has glazing and blinds at one side to protect from the elements so that whatever the weather you can enjoy outdoor living for your entire holiday. There is a constantly changing view over the lake, with its resident moorhen family and other visitors - herons, mallards, jays, occasional deer- (binoculars provided!), and a great view of the sunset down the valley. There is gentle lighting for when the sun goes down, together with candle holders if you want to create a romantic setting! You can tell we are a little in love with our terrace - we think you will be too.
The two double bedrooms with king sized beds have french windows opening onto the ground level terrace and pool area. Both bedrooms have good storage space and for occasional use there is electric heating throughout. In addition there is a small bedroom/dressing room with a double bed.
Quality bed-linen and luxury towels are provided, and a change of linen is available mid way through a 2 week stay.

Outside, you have a choice of landscaped areas in which to relax; the mellow terracotta garden terrace, the pool terrace, the decked terrace to one side, shaded from the afternoon heat; and even a “boules” pitch! There are abundant herbs in the garden for cooking and in season, figs for the picking.
The 11 x 5 metres swimming pool has in-pool lighting for evening dips.
There is a pretty Pool House to one side providing a summer kitchen with washing machine, fridge for poolside drinks and adjacent barbecue, plus the second shower/wet room .
A lavender bordered path leads to the meadow and lake which is private to the property. An evening stroll round the lake is recommended to take in the sunset and views down the valley. From the lake you can follow the “chemin rural” up into the woods. Here is said to be sited a ruined medieval castle – we confess we have never discovered the remains!
Two minutes walk away there is a large reservoir/lake, providing delightful walks and further bird watching opportunities.
You have complete privacy, with no sharing of the pool and no resident owners. The caretakers are just a phone call away if you have any queries or problems. Both pool and garden are maintained regularly.

Love The Lot
This holiday home was perfect for us, a family of four with two children. Our son and daughter each had their own bedrooms and being located on the ground floor the rooms stayed lovely and cool in the very hot weather we were lucky enough to have. Two bedroom lead out into the pool terrace, where there’s a stunning 10 x 5m pool which was a perfect temperature for cooling off. The outside space was amazing. Alison and Dave provide very detailed information on things to do and see in the surrounding area. Even though we’ve been to France for 8 years we hadn’t ever experienced markets like the ones near here. Our favourite morning market being Issigeac and Beaumont-du-Périgord had a fab night market. Our only regret was that we should have stayed longer !

Peaceful family getaway
We really enjoyed our week at Plein Sud. As a family of four looking for some time and space to relax it was perfect. Our kids spent most of their time in the pool, which is a great feature. The adults enjoyed evenings on the terrace with some chilled rosè. The property is really well appointed and had everything we needed for our stay. By the end of our week we were relaxed and wishing we’d booked a 2nd week! It’s clear that it has been much loved as a holiday home and we’d be very happy to return and spend more time here . . .

Fabulous property in a great location
Great! An attractive property, superbly well equipped, in a quiet, peaceful location within easy reach of attractive towns Monpazier, Villereal, Beaumont and Issigeac. Alison and Dave were really helpful with lots of information ahead of our trip and at the property itself. Couldn't ask for more. All in all, a great venue.

Plein Sud
From the moment we stepped across the threshold our time at Plein Sud was wonderfully relaxing and exactly what we were looking for. The property was so much more than what we expected and the pictures, although lovely (obviously, as we booked) really do not do this beautiful home justice. Plain Sud is extremely well appointed, with every conceivable detail thought about, which meant we did not need to think of anything, except to relax and enjoy ourselves. Plain Sud caters for everyone, whether it is solitude, a romantic break or family fun you are after Plein Sud is the number one choice. The pool area is private and again very well appointed, we spent many an hour taking advantage of the secluded sun trap, with refreshing dips in the pool. Unfortunately the weather was not in our favour but once again Plein Sud was to the rescue with the beautiful terrace, which we took full advantage of when the heavens opened, both in the day and night time. The lake in the extended gardens of the property was a tranquil wildlife surprise, which we were not expecting, with the ducks and frogs chatting away to each other hour after hour. We have visited the area in previous years so getting about was not a problem for us, even in the new areas we ventured to. Monpazier and Villereal are beautiful bastides which were a first visit for us and really did not disappoint, with great little boutique shops and restaurants. We also took a trip to Chateau Biron, which is one of the most famous and historic Chateau’s in the local area, walking around you get a real sense of the grandness and splendour of this wonderfully restored historical monument. Alison and Dave could not have been more helpful prior to our arrival, with clear details given to us in a helpful and friendly manner, making Plein Sud a home away from home even before we arrived. We absolutely fell in love with this gorgeous home and we are already planning our next trip here with our family.

Great escape!
What can I say? We had an amazing time with everything we needed for a fantastic holiday. If you need peace and quiet you'll find it here. If you are interested in local markets, chateaux and scenic countryside you'll find that here too. As far as the house is concerned, there is space to spare for teenagers to have some time to themselves, a great pool to cool off in and the choice eating inside or out. Everything we thought we could need was provided for us and more that we hadn't even thought of. Although we enjoyed the hottest weather of the year (35 degrees plus) the bedrooms were cool enough to sleep comfortably. From a nature point of view, there are clear dark skies to enjoy, lizards to find and a friendly frog who announces its presence with a plop as it lands on a door or a tile. All in all it is well worth the drive through France to get here.
